A contender is likely to pay the most in any trade. They have the most incentive hoping the deal would lead to a deep playoff run.
What’s the incentive for a non-contender to overpay?
Agreed. It's going to be either contender or a team that thinks they are close to contending and looking to get there. That's why I've kept returning to Miami(in addition to the agent thing, which would be really weird if he didn't know something). Also... look for a team who just lost their RB due to injury or something... (coincidentally, Miami kind of fits that mold too - Achane just injured his shoulder is he's week-to-week)
This all of course relies on the assumption that Taylor is actually healthy or is really close to returning to play.

Is this guy credible? I’ve never heard of him but that means nothing.
No, he's one of those that throw out tons and tons of % at the wall and hope something sticks... then deletes the misses...

They also signed Conner, but Taylor is a different level of player. Maybe they would like a Jones-Taylor swap +/- some picks?

Good for them. Lets see if anyone bites... 2nd and 3d-4th is about what I expect. Maybe Achane and 2nd would be good.
Achane got injured in the pre-season so it might be additional factor to the Dolphins wanting to trade for Taylor and the injury is still not serious enough to dissuade the Colts I guess... (listed week-to-week)

They ask about updates on JT all the time. BUT Steichen gives a very limited answer. The media is NOT ignoring it.They are not ignoring it, but it's almost like... they are asking some questions by default... just to say they asked something. None of them has asked the question why is an injury that was supposed to be healed months ago, still a problem? or any similar pointed question...

I'm looking for the last interviews with Taylor I can find before he stopped talking/contract dispute started...
April(a question about the contract... then a question about the surgery, gets asked if he's good to go to do everything... says "not everything right now, but ... we rolling"(seems like he's suggesting everything is going really well in his recovery):
June 14(nothing about the injury... some about running back value in the league - "it's on them(the Colts) right now" about new contract)... this is on the media - how the hell do you not ask about his injury here ???:

Could you point me to the day?
I think I remember someone asking him when he expected Taylor to start practicing. I don't remember anyone asking why the recovery has taken so much longer than expected.A radio interview with a national show is not the same as a presser with Colts reporters. I would expect the people who report on the team every day to ask the insightful questions about the most important topics.
I think someone asked what the Taylor injury is and he said "ankle" but not sure if any of them actually did a solid follow up about why is the ankle that was supposed to be healed 6 months ago still a problem... and to be honest - I don't expect Steichen to actually answer that question(not a legit reason not to ask it, though).

Ballard said a few words on Taylor in this interview:

One of the funniest things to me is if he would have just kept his head down and played he would have ended up being the highest paid RB because that's what this organization does. Ballard has preached several times about paying their own. Such a bad play by them.
And trying to embarrass the owner of the team that's most likely to pay you was another really smart move by JT and his agent.
A week before camp Irsay goes on the most viewed sports show in the US and says JT is all healed up and ready to go... and what happens a week later when camp starts - not only does JT doesn't show up early for his medicals, but comes late and says he's still injured and recovering 6 months after surgery that takes 1 month to recover from usually. And now he wants to either be paid or traded... you know... the type of ultimatums that injured players usually have a lot of leverage to make. And then your agent starts liking tweets suggesting you should get traded and taking shots at the team's owner.
I honestly have no idea if there was a way for them to play it any worse. And I'm not absolving Taylor here. He hired this guy to do the dirty work around the contract negotiations. I wonder if all will be forgotten if JT returns and has a great season for the Colts? Because Ballard actually said they are willing to negotiate during the season after they see how things are going with the new coach and QB.

Well, it's a business and Leonard is under contract. If they feel he still has value it shouldn't matter. If they get all butt hurt by this agent's antics for JT and take it out on Leonard I would be surprised.
I'm not talking about taking it out on Leonard. I'm talking about working relationship that can get poisoned and if you are on the fence with the value of some contract just choosing not to have to deal with the baggage that comes with it.

Who are Matt Lombardo and JPA Football? Anyone credible? Serious questions.
JPA seems to be news aggregator. Matt Lombardo - no idea how credible he is. Has some twitter following but that's no guarantee of credibility.

Do you read this as Shaad being critical of the unnamed exec who calls the Colts roster a mess? And then JT liking Shaad's criticism of that analysis?
Or do you read this as JT liking the analysis of the Colts?
The former I think.
It's possible JT is trying to get back into the fold...

This is the last tweet Taylor has liked:

"Jonathan Taylor's position hasn't changed?" Oh really? So he's still a running back? No 8 figure contracts then...

I wonder how Leonard feels about his agent's antics? What do you think Jim Irsay will do if after this year Ballard is on the fence about whether to cut Leonard or not? What side of the fence do you think the Colts will land on?

I think Olubi is slow. It wasn't just Isabella earlier...

According to Chuck it's both on the slot(McKenzie) and on Richardson for trying to make something out of nothing on a blown play...

@stitches You were a big fan of Isabella before he was drafted. No?
I liked him, but he's been disappointment in the league so far. Seems like he doesn't have the play strength to be a starter...

I would much rather us start Downs in the slot than McKenzie.

Minshew is a pro QB. If we didn't have Richardson already, I'd be OK with him as our bridge starter...

Those numbers mean nothing if they decide to go all in. We've seen teams move money on a whim in the short term to load up on talent. If they think Taylor is the final piece for them, the cap space won't be the problem.
