    You think Dalvin can play Nose? I've thought he was more of a 3 tech kinda guy, but I haven't watched too much of him so I'm not too sure...

    Well with most DTs from college it's projection, because there aren't many natural NTs. He has good length and good frame, he can add some more weight IMO. He's been a stout run defender and has great strength at the point of attack. I'm not certain he can be a NT, but I can envision him being able to be one.

    That's fine. Except for the fact one has great tape, and one doesn't. And if you're drafting off of potential, I fail to to see how peppers has more than Obi.

    Why do you keep saying that? Peppers have great tape at S. I keep seeing that "he didn't have an interception" thing over and over and over again. He had 11 passes defensed in his 2015 season. That's no joke. Budda Baker doesn't have a single season with more than 7. It's incredibly dangerous to draw your conclusions from a single stat that doesn't even mean much when taken out of context. Just watch him playing safety. Would you like him to grab some interceptions? Sure... but that's not all that playing safety is about.

    I'd put a bet that he is the 4th safety drafted. Hard to predict who will go first before Obi and peppers.

    But in my rankings, he is 5th.

    It's really not that insane. If he was that great at safety he would have stayed there. He never even had 1 interception. The hype is what is insane. Especially when you watch Buddha Bakers tape, they're in different leagues.

     Literally his biggest pro is that he is an athletic freak, same as Obi. And go watch Obis tape, he actually played the safety positions(both of them).

    Agree to disagree. I love Buda Baker and I think they are about same level of prospects.

    Was just about to post this. Still looking for a WR I take it. He is decent.

    Kamar Aiken is pretty solid, big too. Just had a down year though.

    Makes me wonder about those rumors that CB doesn't want to re-sign Moncrief.

    He's 6'2 215. Could be our #3 is Dorsett continues to struggle.

    I think we are looking to address depth at WR so we wouldn't need to take one in the draft. Ballard is doing a great job IMO making sure we plug our depth chart with good competition for our starters and for the new crop of rookies. He has been harping on how he wants to add competition and I bet he doesn't want to just hand in starting spots to a ton of rookies. Make them work for it.

    This way he can draft BPA and not worry that we might need a 3d/4th receiver and overdraft somebody because of it. This is the way I've always envisioned roster building working out - plug holes and increase depth and competition through FA, then draft best players in the draft so you'd have the best chance of hitting on real playmakers for the team, regardless of positions.

  5. I'm sorry but that's insane. People have gone way off on the other end of the spectrum after he was (undeservedly) in conversation for The Heisman. He looks really good to me in his 2015 safety tape. He's not the 5th best safety. Obi is freak athletically but he has nowhere near the understanding and instincts of Peppers and Peppers is one of the better tacklers in this year's safety class. I would be alright drafting him at 15 and I kind of expect him to even go before us. Peppers is a damn good player and is a blue chip talent, who sacrificed his NFL stock to help his team(played wherever they told him to play even though it ultimately hurt his image coming into the draft). Add to that that he can be a 4th down player for you(returner) and you easily get a mid-first value on him.

    I think a lot of teams will regret it if they let him fall to the second.

    All good points. I'm prone to believe that there's something irregular about this reporting.

    Even if they did offer a five year deal, I can't imagine that it was guaranteed beyond Year 1.

    I think it probably was similar to our other long-term contracts. I posted an observation about them the other day by a Texans salary cap account:

    If I had to bet it was front loaded through a roster bonus, but had nothing (or little) guaranteed past year 1. Maybe it was something like... 14M in the first year(including the roster bonus) + very little or nothing guaranteed in years 2-5. For example Sheard's 25.5M contract only 12.5 is guaranteed and 10 of those are in the first year. So I can see us offering something like 14M guaranteed first year + 3.5 guaranteed in second year and nothing else being guaranteed. In essence Ballard is buying future flexibility (both giving him the chance to cut players that don't perform without having huge hit on the cap, and by having lower salary in the future while the cap is rising even if the player stays).

    Im confused  why poe would turn down that big of an offer from us. In years past it seems every player that came in for a visit would sign. Is this franchise less desirable to play for now than in years past?

    Probably not much of it was guaranteed. Another possibility - he thinks he fits better in 43 and thinks he can get more money next year as a 43 DT rather than as a 34 NT. All speculations. Maybe he just didn't want to play for us :dunno:

    I am assuming it's a depth signing but I could be wrong.  None the less, welcome to the Colts Al!

    Yeah, that's my assumption - this is probably depth/competition signing. I don't think it will have much influence on the decisions about the top of the roster.

    1. Joe Mixon's Rehab Effort Is Working

    In a recent meeting with an NFL franchise, Oklahoma running back Joe Mixon was asked a simple question: Why did you do it?

    Mixon's answer, a team official told Bleacher Report, was contemplative and thoughtful. And while the official wouldn't tell B/R exactly what Mixon said, he felt Mixon's answer was sincere.

    Mixon's willingness in recent weeks to address the character issues that have swirled around him after he was caught on video punching a woman in the face has transformed his image, according to that team official. Not just within that team, but around much of the league.

    Indeed, people around the NFL now tell me Mixon is moving up draft boards.

    It's long been believed that Mixon, like Ray Rice, would suffer because his assault was caught on video, and that video would embarrass any team that drafted him. Thus, he either wouldn't be drafted or he'd be selected late. Several team officials say at least four franchises have removed Mixon from their draft boards.

    But the narrative around Mixon seems to be changing.

    Now, remember the first and only rule of Draft Club: Everyone lies about Draft Club. So if team officials say Mixon's draft stock is rising, well, it may not be.

    But in this case, I believe Mixon's rise is accurate. He seems to be impressing teams with his sincerity. Teams that once feared taking him are no longer as scared to do so.

    Not only is his draft stock improving, but some teams say no player is moving up draft boards faster than Mixon. Apparently he's checking every box as he meets with various franchises.

    Mixon might now go as high as the second round. Some even believe the late first round is in play. (Still, remember the first rule of Draft Club.)

    There are still teams who are highly uncomfortable with Mixon being drafted at all, let alone in higher rounds. Some of these teams are outraged by the idea of a team selecting a player who hit a woman. No one is saying he shouldn't be allowed to play in the NFL. They just don't want him drafted.

    The league office is watching this situation closely. They may deny this, but based on interviews I've done, the NFL doesn't want Mixon drafted either, feeling it would undermine the league's efforts to curb violence against women.

    To some in football, what happens with Mixon is a test. Rice was once a linea video linefew in the NFL thought would ever be crossed again. No one thought a player caught committing an act of violence on video would ever have a career in football.

    It's possible Mixon may move that line.

    Super raw, wouldn't make an impact immediately. Has all the athletic tools but doesn't do anything that makes you go WOW that kid has game. In the 3rd or 4th I'd be okay with but I also know he's probably ganna sit for a year or two.

    Yeah, he will need some work and he will need some time in an NFL team's strength and conditioning program, before he's ready to contribute, but I feel like he's precisely the type of player we should be taking a chance on on day 3 of the draft.

  11. As you guys probably know, he's my new mid-late round crush. Here are his numbers from his pro-day:

    Height: 6'2"

    Weight: 229lbs

    40 yard dash: 4.65

    20 yard shuttle: 4.27

    3-cone drill: 6.91

    bench press: 18 reps

    vertical jump: 38"

    broad jump: 122

    Source: http://www.nola.com/saints/index.ssf/2017/03/saints_among_team_to_show_inte.html

    Here's how his measurements stack against players on the position:

    Height: 6'2" -> 58th percentile

    Weight: 229lbs -> 9th percentile

    40 yard dash: 4.65 -> 73d percentile

    20 yard shuttle: 4.27 -> 58th percentile

    3-cone drill: 6.91 -> 81st percentile

    bench press: 18 reps -> 18th percentile

    vertical jump: 38" -> 92d percentile

    broad jump: 122 -> 84th percentile

    Those are pretty damn impressive numbers. He is lacking in strength and weight a bit and this is visible in his tape where you can see him having trouble shedding blocks, but he is very athletic and rangy otherwise. He can run with and cover TEs and slots in coverage. Here's his available tape:

    Unfortunately this is the only game I could find full tape of. Here's is tape of his teammate Jordan Willis. You can track Lee in most snaps there as well, he's the linebacker with no. 9: http://draftbreakdown.com/players/jordan-willis/

    Here's a highlight video, to get an idea of his movement and type of plays he makes:

    I personally would be very OK with drafting him with one of our 4th round picks... maybe even with the 3d.

    Thoughts?
