Why do you think bringing him back makes sense? Do you know how many games he has missed over the span of his career? I’m almost certain that if Ballard 100% whole heartedly wanted him back he would have been back. Kenny , Grove , Pittman even Lewis all were retained. Even  tho they had offers elsewhere. I think they’re ok losing Blackman in FA. Their are capable guys available who can fill that void. Like I said we know what we get with Julian but his health is the largest issue. You don’t pay a guy knowing he is injury prone and has a history of it. Why do you think Hooker left? I’m almost certain they don’t want to chance it.

Because last year he moved back to SS and was having his best year as a Colt until an injury ended his season.  He led the team with four interceptions if I’m not mistaken before the injury.   He’s not back because there is a difference of opinion on the value of the contract.  Injuries are part of the equation I would think.  Hooker left and has played well with the Cowboys.  Every players circumstance is different.  He might not be back we will see.  I’m hoping any offer he receives comes in close to what the Colts offered and he returns.

Your best ability is availability , why bring back someone who can’t stay healthy? I may be in the minority but I actually don’t want to retain Blackmon. He’s a good player when healthy but that’s the thing he isn’t often that. You’re going to shell out 6-8 million a year for a guy you’re possibly going to get MAYBE 10 games out of?

I think that’s why he’s testing FA.  Ballard has a number in mind and Blackmon has his.  I would bet that they have an agreement where if Blackmon gets an offer he wants to sign he will bring it to Ballard to respond.  Since he was drafted by the Colts I would expect Ballard has some leeway on what he will pay.  So if Blackmon sighs elsewhere it will be interesting to see what he received.  I think the Colts bringing in another safety yesterday is part of a fall back plan.  At least for SS.  Cross has shown improvement at SS.  So Bringing back Blackmon makes sense to me if they both are happy with the contract.

I just really wish they go out and get Justin Simmons. This secondary needs a SOLID Vet, that’s exactly what Simmons is. He’s so underrated of s defender. Yes he’s 31 but I’m sure he has enough left in the tank to play atleast 2-3 more seasons. I think under his tutelage Nick Cross could stand to learn a thing or two heck even our entire secondary can. Simmons is that smart of a safety, Ballard please go sign this man.

Underrated?  He has been all pro a number of times.  Last year as well.

We have gotten to the point, whether you are a Ballard supporter or detractor for his "purgatory approach", talk is cheap and if Ballard and AR along with Steichen don't win the division by the 2025 season, Ballard needs to be shown the door so that we can see what another GM would do with AR while he is still on his rookie contract.

I actually think Ballard will be shown the door this year if we don’t make the playoffs.   I think he knows it too.  The only excuse that could save him is if AR misses significant time again.  God forbid.  I have no problem resigning our own players.  They are an instrumental part of a solid nucleus of our team.  We were close to making the playoffs with a backup quarterback who played the vast majority of the games during the entire season.   Who would have thought.  Ballard knows he has some holes to fill.  I think he was and is still interested in Sneed.  Until Sneed is extended by the Chiefs or traded to another team I think the Colts will still be suitors.  A trade might not happen until the draft so I wouldn’t say the door is closed on that happening by any means.  I think there are meaningful signings that could still happen.  And meaningful trades that could also happen.  I think we are in a good place right now with time and many options and choices at our disposal.  I have to say I wish more additions would happen sooner rather than later.  I just keep telling myself it’s only the second week of FA.  So not a catastrophe. But patience is hard.  Ballard appears to have it.  And I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad thing.  It’s like the tortoise and the hare.  He’s definitely the tortoise.  I hope his race ends the same way.  I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

This Sneed thing was quite the doozy. At one point I’m sure the far majority of us thought he was a Colt. I expect a couple guys to be signed to the secondary at 1-2yr contracts and we go BPA at CB, WR and Edge in the first two rounds of the draft.

Agree.  I would be surprised if it was Simmons or Diggs now.  Edwards makes more sense.  Maybe TraDavis White on a year deal as well.  We need a veteran OL addition as well.  I think we can forget about Bowers unless he trades up.  Can’t pass up a chance at a premier prospect at corner.  Need playmakers in the secondary.

Holder’s side if anyone is interested

Even if you don’t like Holder this is worth listening too.  Basically the Colts were really in on Hunter and got beat and decided not to go after Sneed so they handed out all those contracts to keep their own.

Holder said they are pinning their hopes on Richardson and him making them better than they were with Minshew.  He also makes it pretty clear he thinks they are going corner at 15.

He also said he thinks the Colts like their young secondary a lot more than most of us do and they are banking on their young guys getting better.  He did say he does expect some moves in the secondary but it’s probably not going to be a Sneed level guy.

He also brought up Franklin saying we need to go get some banners now and Holder told some in the Colts organization that and they loved that because that’s how they feel.  They have invested in their core and now expect them to deliver and will hold them accountable to do so.

I’ve been thinking corner all along at 15.  Terion Arnold is my choice.

It’s week two of free agency not the start of training camp.  Give it time.

Also, I know people don’t want to hear this but I don’t think Ballard feels the corner room is as bad as some think.  They have three young corners they like plus Kenny.  Yes safety needs work but that could also be addressed in the draft.

Also, maybe they did kick the tires on Sneed and decided yep nope.  It will take a little time to recalibrate from that and adjust their focus.

Well you have Flowers returning ,an undrafted player ,who is coming back from a severe injury.  Jones a 7th rd pick who played because Flowers couldn’t play and had more bad days than good and Brent’s a second round pick who missed a number of games also with injuries which continues a history of injuries in college.  Brent’s is the only player who showed promise last year.  I think Ballard would be risking the season if he just rolled with those three considering the quarterbacks we will be facing.  The safety room isn’t a ball of fire right now either.  Plenty of time left.  Ballard has some work to do I would think.

    Yeah no doubt.

I just think at this point, if the draft compensation has been figured out(who even knows?), the money shouldn't of been that hard, and doubt Ballard would let him walk over $1-$2m AAV.  As it seems he really wants him.

Sneed either going back and forth on taking the pay day and leaving or going for 3 peat on tag

KC debating if they want to just run it back with Sneed on tag(if he isn't disgruntled about it), or if they need his resources elsewhere?

Can only be so many things. Money and trade compensation is the easy part and you just walk away by this point. Maybe we have?

Hopefully this goes through today, or at least get some resolution. Maybe that comes with a signing of someone else?

I agree and think that the trade compensation has been agreed to.  I think Sneed and the Colts have agreed to the AAV.  I don’t see that as the problem either.  I think Ballard wants three years and Sneed wants four.  Sneed wants more guaranteed money and the way he gets it is through a longer contract.  Ballard has pegged all new contracts at three years or less to coincide with AR receiving his first new contract in three years.  I think one party has to budge for the deal to complete.  If neither budges soon Ballard is going to look elsewhere.  I can see today being the day.    It’s clear to me Ballard wants a new veteran starting cornerback.  If it’s not Sneed he will bring in someone else.  He could have gone to FA but instead he tried to trade for Sneed.  I can see him still trading for a cornerback.  Maybe from a team that is rebuilding.  Hopefully the Sneed deal is done today.  If not I think he will be on the phone finding another way.  He knows he can’t risk going into the new season with the same secondary.  He actually might be losing Blackmon.  He can’t afford that risk.  So I think a couple of veteran additions will be coming.  Very good players too.

If it happens, it happens. Based on those comments, seems like Sneed isn’t sure and that’s the hold up. Odds are, he’ll stay a chief this year and we will look elsewhere.

If it doesn't happen there is nothing preventing Ballard from trading for another veteran starting corner.  He definitely wants one.

No NFL team is going to just trust another team with that.  That’s not how it works.  It’s like buying a used car you are going to take it to your mechanic to look it over not just take the sellers word it’s fine.  It’s standard operating procedure to complete the trade pending the physical.  That’s how these things work in the NFL.  Ballard also isn’t going go take a short cut on a major investment.

That’s why the Colts would still do the physical.  It’s contingent on him passing a physical.  They have him complete a physical to reassure the Colts he can pass a physical.  If I was buying a car from a stranger I would take it to a mechanic.  If I was buying from a major dealer I wouldn’t.

Teams do their own physicals once trades are completed.  They aren’t going to take another team’s word for it that he’s healthy even if he more than likely is.

They would still do it once it’s completed.  I don’t think the Chiefs would stick it to Ballard.  I think Ballard would trust them.

Withtt the way Reggie announced on twitter about how we basically need to wait on Peirce and not judge him yet makes me think we won't be in on a WR in the first. I think it will be either Bowers or CB or edge player. If we got Sneed then it's edge or Bowers. Especially if Verse is still there.

Possibly.   If Bowers is gone then CB is still a possibility.  BPA.

I was acknowledging I was wrong.   That’s why I followed by asking is there nothing that could happen that would make you say too much, or is the sky the limit?   You didn’t answer that.

No you didn’t.  What does that that question have to do with making a player the highest paid at their position?  Nothing.  Oh by the way I will leave the too much decision up to Ballard.  I won’t say making a player the highest paid at his position is too much.  If he thinks it’s too much he won’t pay it.  He’s done an excellent job with the cap and I expect it to continue.  Our opinions don’t matter.  Trying to say Ballard won’t do it when he already has proves it’s not a red line for him.
