It wouldn't shock me to see the Colts trade their 15th overall, a conditional 2025 pick, and Alec Pierce to the niners for their 31st selection overall and Aiyuk.

I know Aiyuk wants an extension, but I think the Colts could do it.

This is a pure guess and only contingent that the Colts could not find any trade partners to grab a wideout at 15.

I’m thinking Aiyuk winds up with the Bills.  Allen needs veteran help.

I think we have 4 with Rainmann as he was was the 8th ranked Tackle in the league in just his second season, I think we have seen enough already to know he is going to be a cornerstone for years to come barring injury.

I hope you’re right.  I didn’t include him because he only had the one year of elite play.  The elite players do it for multiple years so let’s hope he keeps it up.

Colts ranked 11th in top 3 wr's in this article.

All of opinion, but thought it was interesting. Have to go back and look at the rest of list to see how accurate I think it is.

Either way, a 4th guy should be in the cards at some point in 2 weeks.

11th ranked with Gardner Minshew at quarterback and a rookie slot receiver.  Wow!  That’s darn impressive.  Bring on AR.

I think the thing to watch is how teams draft between the LT's and WR's. There are two premiere LT's and two premiere WR's who would go in the top 4 if not for the value associated to qb position. I would say based purely on grades, Harrsion, Nabors, Alt and the guy from Penn State would  grade out better than even Williams.  He is going #1 because he is a qb.  To me, I would draft a LT before I would draft at WR if i was in the top 5. It will be interesting to see how teams feel about the LT and WR position as it relates to value in the NFL. Thats what I will be watching. I think even Polian said it is Qb, LT and DE in that order in terms of importance to the team

All well and good but we have our LT and he is young.  If you have a top 5 pick and you have your quarterback then it could be LT or WR or ER.  If you don’t have a quarterback then you better draft one.

Way to many safeties, WRs, and CBs on there to think there’s not something too that. It’s also interesting that the guys at those positions who really fit us aren’t listed. A lot of times the guys we have the most interest in, we show the least interest in. So Quinyon, BTJ, and Jared Verse not being on there is interesting.

Only two TEs makes sense too. Theres the obvious Bowers connection, but Ballard also has said a true blocking TE is hard to find. Thats exactly what Reiman is good at though.

Dejean and Nabors and Turner are not on the list as well.  So by the process of elimination our pick at 15 will be either Bowers, Quinyon, BTJ, Verse, Dejean, Nabors or Turner if they are still available.

I just don’t see the colts adding a very expensive player this late in the off-season process.   The Colts would have to extend him giving the leverage to Baker.   It just wouldn’t be a Ballard move.

They did it for Buckner and Justin Houston at the time to name two. I think Ballard believes he has a team that can win the division.  He’s just missing a couple of pieces.  One more starting veteran acquisition and hitting on the 1st pick would probably do it.

Colts listed as 1 of 3 teams for Baker in this article.

Although the original article sighted came out the day we signed Blackmon

Thanks.  My whole thought was to pair him with Blackmon.  Signing Blackmon shouldn’t stop the trade it should push it forward.  Blackmon wasn’t expensive.  I think they would make a great tandem.  So he’s going to cost some.  That doesn’t bother me.  I would rather have Baker for three years than Diggs or Simmons for this year.  I really hope Ballard is making some inquiries with two weeks to go.  Baker reminds me of Sanders.  He would be a great addition.

It will take more than #15 to get Crosby but it still makes a good topic of discussion. I’m guessing two 1s would be the minimum for them to even listen to an offer.

Not really.  Brian Burns went for a 2nd rd.(39) and a 5th(141) and a conditional 2025 5th.   Giants also received a 5th back this year from the Panthers.  I don’t know why but fans really overvalue what the cost would be to acquire a player for picks.  Picks 39 and 141 are worth 545 points.  Pick 15 is worth 1050 points.  I even threw in Kwitty Paye or Dayo to give them a starter.  I think they would listen to pick 15.  It’s a primo pick.

Diggs and Simmons would essentially be one year signings. Baker is 28 so he'd probably have a few more years in him, but I don't think I'd want sign Ballard to sign him to a 3 year contract and do you really want to trade for a player who'll probably only be here 1-2 years?

I would. I think he would be here three years for sure.  He would help us get a Super Bowl.

Are there any meaningful players left in FA or are you talking trade?

I consider Diggs and Simmons as meaningful players in FA.  Another meaningful player who I think we might be able to acquire in a trade is Budda Baker.  He would be a trade and extend candidate like Buckner.  He wouldn’t cost a 1st rd pick either.  He was supposedly available last year.  I could see him fitting in nicely with Blackmon.

    Updated current cap space:

    Spotrac - $14,589,348

    OtC - $14,012,296

Not as much as it seems.

Need around $2.8m(ish) for draft if we don't pick up any additional picks, or trade up.

    Get us down to $11.2m - $11.7m

    Which is actually decent amount.

However, once September rolls around, we will need to have $2.5(ish) for practice squad players.

We will probably leave ourselves $7-$8m in season cash.

So most of that is spoken for, that's not till September though.

So we all know there are multiple ways to come up with some more cash if needed. ($5.9m for Cox, notably)

Another issue is roster space. I think I saw somewhere, that Dabo doesn't get a free roster space this year, so we have (14) open spots.

    (7) draft picks right now(TBD actually total)

That leaves (7) open spots, which isn't too big a deal either, as we can release bottom of roster guys if we find more than (7) UDFA to sign after the draft, or if we want to bring in some other vets off of the FA list

All very true and interesting.  And still Ballard put a big offer out there for Hunter and  was considering Sneed until he became prohibitive.  We know there are numerous ways he can create space.  I still wouldn’t put it past him to find a way to bring in a meaningful acquisition.

What’s the incentive for the Raiders to move Crosby?   I think he’s a foundational piece for him.    And I don’t think the offer of a 1 plus Kwity or Dayo would be enough for them.   I think they love Crosby that much.

The only incentive would be to use our first round pick to help them move up and draft a quarterback to be their new franchise guy.  Not saying it’s an easy decision.  But if they really want to move up our pick would definitely help them do it.  Davis opened the door for a trade up.  So they must be thinking about it.  Draft a quarterback high or not.  That’s what they have to figure out.  They could always send multiple picks and future high picks instead.  So they have options.  Paye would give them a plug in starter to help with the loss of Crosby.  That’s all I’m thinking there.  We know teams trade their star players all the time.  They all have their reasons for doing so and when they decide to do it.  Having a real shot at one of the top quarterback prospects might be enough in this case.  New GM and coach.  You never can tell.

Crosby would have to agree to a restructure.   He wools look good blue

Restructures do happen a lot in the league.  So it’s not out of the realm of possibility.   Especially since he was willing to give Hunter a new contract with a lot of guaranteed money.

  14. TRADE IDEA.  I just read where Mark Davis has given new GM Tom Telesco permission to move up in the draft for a quarterback if it makes sense.  They are sitting at pick 13.  We know Ballard was trying to sign Danielle Hunter to a big contract and lost out.  Obviously still trying for that premium ER.  How about Ballard does a trade similar to the Buckner trade.  Offer our pick 15 to the Raiders for Max Crosby.  According to the draft charts our pick coupled with pick 13 results in 2200 points which coincidentally is the equivalent to pick 3 value wise.  They could always add an extra pick or so if need be to trade up. They might not have to go all the way up to 3 either.  I also wouldn’t have a problem including Dayo or Kwity as part of the trade to give them a player to replace Crosby.  I would think a trade like this would be agreed to in advance of the draft and would only go down if the quarterback they wanted was there.  If they did go to three and they liked a couple then I would think it could be done before the draft.  The big question is would the Raiders part with Crosby to get the franchise quarterback they want.  I could see this is a win win if they really want to get a quarterback this year.  Knowing how Ballard tried for the veteran Hunter I could see him at least having the conversation with Telesco. Maybe they say no or maybe they say let us think about it.  If Telesco wants to bring in his own quarterback this is the perfect time for him.  Just a thought on my part two weeks before the draft.  I believe we traded for Buckner before the draft so having a conversation with Telesco now makes sense to me.  If Ballard wants to make a splash move this trade proposal would certainly qualify and fill a major need as well.  Like I said two weeks to go to the draft.  Seems like forever.

Finally the time has come. A week later they have updated Blackmon's contract.

    $3,890,000 year 1 cap hit

    - $985,000

Total top 51 cap hit: $2,905,000

    Updated current cap space:

    Spotrac - $14,589,348

    OtC - $14,012,296

Spotrac wasn't updated but used OtC cap hit for Spotrac.

    OP updated as well.

Still room for Diggs or Simmons now.

If they trade up for a player it will probably be for Dallas Turner.  Ballard has been trying for years to get that ER.  If Turner gets close enough to 15 he might do it.  People forget Woods had a perfect 10.0 Ras score.  Hard to see Ballard not even giving him an opportunity.  You trade up for any player they have to start.  Same for Nabors so Pierce sits.  I would be shocked if he trades up.  I think he could be tempted for Turner though.  Ballard can get a great player just sitting at 15.  So I think he waits and picks at 15.  I’m guessing Dejean.  He would make an immediate impact in the secondary and special teams.  So many possibilities.

Imo Chicago is a perfect trade up scenario. Pretty sure they only have like 4 picks this year and no picks in the second round. I’m completely onboard with trading pick 15 and 46 to grab the 9th pick. That would put us in range for bowers, odunze, or nabers. Anyone of those three makes our offense more electrifying. These are blue chip passing game weapons that we’ve been wanting for awhile. Should be a corner or safety available in round 3 that can compete. But if we’re going offense, I’d rather trade up and grab one of the more coveted guys than take a next tier player.

A corner or safety to compete in round 3?  I don’t like the sounds of that.  Did you forget we’re playing Stroud, Lawrence and Levis twice a year.  You can put aside Levis if you want but he’s no slouch.  He can play and lead a team.  He should not be underestimated.  Then they’re quite a few quarterbacks in our conference who are formidable as well.  lol.  I think our offense is already explosive with AR and JT playing.  Our Achilles heel is the secondary.  I don’t want a corner who can compete.  I want a corner who can start and be an upgrade over our other starters.  I think our best chance of adding a potential difference maker to the secondary is in the 1st rd.  There are plenty of good WR prospects that can be taken in a later round.  It will be slim Pickens for a corner in rd 3.  I would be surprised if we trade up.  He waited for AR.  He will have a lot of good choices at 15.  Hard for me to see Ballard losing pick 46.

Smoke screen?   I don’t know.  To move to 9 or better is going to be expensive.  I could see it more if we signed Diggs or Simmons.  Since we haven’t that secondary is the weak link and losing our first two picks in order to move up is pretty risky.  You could always wait to sign a FS after the draft.  But I think that’s risky.  I would rather sign a FS before the draft then your options really open up and you can rest assured you have addressed the secondary.  Two sides to a coin I guess.

He's probably the best of this group this year though. I'm not talking 15 but I wouldn't trip somewhere in Rd 2 if we had 1 or multiple 2nd rounders. He has a versatile skill set and he is good enough to be good at both S and CB. Plus he brings special teams ability. The Colts love a versatile skill set. He has athletic traits right up there with all the other CB so I'm not ready to say he can't play corner. I've seen him at safety a few times but he didn't build his career of it.  But what I do like again is his elite diagnosis skills. Very aware and in tune player

He’s instinctive like Leonard.  Will always be around the ball.  You either have it or you don’t.

I think we need a stud WR or DE more, but I would be happy with the pick of Cooper Dejean

I could see Ballard choosing a DE over a WR at 15.  Somehow I can’t see him pushing Pierce to the side without giving him an opportunity to play with AR for at least the majority of the season.  One of the premier ER prospects is a different story.  I can see him going there.  I want our 1st pick to start and fill an immediate need.  That’s why I think CB will be the pick.

    Agreed

He is an "Aw shucks" midwestern kid, that I think appeals to Ballard

Great work ethic, great performance in 2022 with 5 INTS

In interviews, he doesnt want to have attention on him...... classy kid

He is also 6' 1" and 207 lbs and can level the WR or RB in front of him

    He hits like a LB

IF we go CB, he is my first choice

He also can be a star FS for us as well, if we wanted

Agree.  The kid is a playmaker.  I think he has the football instincts like Leonard had.  I think he’s our pick at 15.  Then WR in the 2nd and OL in the 3rd.
