I recently watched this NFL Films top ten and it made me realize two things:
1. How much the game has changed (a lot of these tackles would be illegal today)
2. The Colts need someone to become known for being a hard-hitter.
I don’t even know if it’s possible today. Seems part of the reason you won’t see it as much is that more players are bigger and faster than in the past. Maybe I’m missing it but I don’t know if there’s any players that would make that list.
Is there any player you can think of that would? -

Not to start a new topic, concerning the 4th and 1 play, but it made me think of all of the “what if” plays that might have changed the result of an important game for the Colts.
I’ll give you one from the Baltimore years and one from the Indy years:
1969 - (SB against Jets) what if Unitas played the whole game?
2005 - (Divisional playoff against Pittsburgh) what if Nick Harper had headed for the sideline on his fumble recovery?
What are your worst “what if” plays/scenerios?

I like listening to Rick although I don’t like his self-promotion.
That being said, he’s correct in pointing out that there’s a pattern where top receivers burn the secondary. I think back to NE and how Belichick shut down Marvin by double teams and putting their top guy on Marvin.Last Saturday was a good example of one guy (Collins) beating you. That first touchdown was not a scheme issue but Cross not executing the defense. So, you’ve got to wonder how many issues were due to inexperience.

If the play had worked, we’d be praising Steichen for being a genius. That’s football.
Barring a catastrophic injury, I feel confident the Colts will make the playoffs next year

My wife ordered me a 53 jersey a couple of years ago and I told her to cancel and order 28 instead.
Red flags went up in my mind when Leonard referred to himself in the third person. Too much talk about himself and what people thought of him. Too much victim mentality as one poster mentioned.
He was never effective, getting off his blocks. He was great at creating turnovers but he was a liability for the Colts this year.Best of luck to him but I’m glad he’s gone.

Raider’s D looked good against KC. Their Offense…not so much.
Regardless, unless the Colts play cleanly, they won’t beat either team.
However…., if they play like they did against Pittsburgh, they could win the division.
They’re basically playing with “house money” now.-

I find it funny ((not funny haha) how people criticize the Colts for giving up and then give up on their team with 3 quarters of the game to play.

If they beat Pittsburgh, they’ll be the 7th seed. If you would have told me they would lose Richardson for the year (and Woods &Taylor for much of it), and still had a shot at the playoffs, I would’ve signed up.

Pretty in depth assessment of Garner’s play. He’s thrown some dimes and at other times, he goes to wrong receiver or has bad footwork.
We really need to see the good Minshew going forward. Consistency seems to be the issue.

Health will be a big key in this race: not only who’s out for opponents but us staying healthy and getting pieces back like Ju Ju, Taylor, Smith and Woods (not to mention Grover).
Although these players are out, their respective backups have been getting playing time.
My biggest concern is Minshew; sometimes, he’ll make great plays and sometimes, he’ll cough the ball up or look skittish or unaware of the situation (for instance, he slides out-of-bounds, instead of staying upright).
My biggest confidence is Stiechen, pretty impressive so far’and can perhaps offset Minshew’s weaknesses. -

Isn’t Downs hurt? As far as Pierce, I thought the criticism was unwarranted. He hasn’t had great QBs throwing to him. Great game today though and I thought I heard an announcer say Pierce was a big key in Granson’s long catch.

Too early to really assess Pierce: he hasn’t had a solid QB to work with and is still learning the pro game. If Richardson can stay healthy, he just might break out next year.

New Podcast about sports injuries, this first one is about shoulder strains and specifically about AR’s case.
When I heard Alex Smith’s experience, I thought “Oh no, this could be bad for AR. But the host emphasized there have been developments since Smith’s experience (I’m assuming the tight rope surgery). Brock Bower’s from Georgia is back playing, although it was a high ankle sprain.I just hope AR doesn’t lose the arm strength. Can’t wait to see this young man develop into a force for the Colts!!

Shaq (like all of us) is a mixed bag; there’s the guy who was active in his community and to those who knew him, a “great guy”. A guy who (in his early years) was an amazing player.
Then there’s the guy who was too focused on being “dissed” by media who didn’t consider him the best LB in the league in his early years, who referred to himself in the third person, who complained about playing time when it was obvious his play was hurting the team.The complaining can be a cancer to a team. Think about guys like Zach Moss, Ogletree, Granson, Speed and Nick Cross who could all make a case for more playing time. I don’t know if this was a primary consideration for his release but it may have been one of the reasons he was let go.

I’m remembering the ouch out a couple of years ago against the Texans; at his prime, he was a difference maker.
But he really was a shell of his former self an a liability on the field. Add to that his comments made in frustration (which became a distraction) and I’m not surprised by this, at all.That being said, wish him well (just NOT against us)!

Even though I appreciated the game-changing plays, I never liked the “victim mentality” he exhibited. He was always talking about how he was underrated.
That being said, I hope he either has a turn around or they get something for him.-
