You want killer covers? Killer meaning fabulous. Here you go...

Shinedown doing 'Simple Man' a Lynyrd Skynyrd number...

And a gentlemen named John Nickoloff doing 'Stone Cold' a Rainbow cover...

I agree with you 1000% on that  Allman Brothers cover too. You're exactly right my friend. As a band, the Allman Brothers deserve more love/public accolades than they currently receive.

When I first read this I automatically started my "southern boogie" playlist. It has Allman Brothers, Molly Hatchet, 38 Special, The Outlaws, Blackfoot, Marshall Tucker and Skynyrd  to name a few! lol

  3. I felt like listening to some music from our neighbors up north....feel free to add...no Beiber PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"You know I love you; you know it's true" RR7 & I won't 'waste your precious time' LOL!

Speaking of the Canadian powerhouse that is RUSH, I was waiting to use this tremendous 'Closer To The Heart' cover for an upcoming movie review, but the number is so good, it literally can be played down or used more than once.

Jesus, I wish I was this talented, but alas, SW1 is not. Oh well, so be it. I've always had a solid ear though, which counts in the long run I suppose.

Speaking of BTO tributes, checkout this 'Taking Care Of Livestock' spoofing the classic "Taking Care Of Business" tune RR7. It's spectacular!

I think I just discovered a new genre called Farmers Rock. Just Kidding!

Percussionist Lars Ulrich plays the drums with such thunderous intensity like machine gun bullets ricocheting off of spinning helicopter blades. His presence is felt even before the arena lights get flipped on the stage. My favorite Metal drummer is Nick Menza formerly of Megadeth fame, but Lars is my number 2 though.

Metallica's new album "Hardwired To Self Destruct" is top notch & doesn't disappoint loyal fans BTW. "Here Comes Revenge" & "Spit Out The Bone" are probably my favorite new tracks.

Laying down "Sweet Caroline" courtesy of Neil Diamond AKA 'The Jewish Elvis.' Not bad man. I actually bobbed my head back & forth & sang along. Intoxicated or sober nobody can screw that song up.

I really admire anybody that goes on stage & makes folks forget about their problems for an hour or so. Kudos mi amigo!

All my foolish antics aside, you know what you're doing up there & it takes guts for adults to embrace their rock star ego way back from their high school days. Cool. Besides, if you signed with a major record label, your manager would probably embezzle millions illegally from you, you'd fight over creative control of your master studio demos when your label wants you to become more radio friendly by changing your signature sound, sleeping on tour buses loses it's luster around 6 months; it sucks having to protect your voice all the time when it's your main meal ticket; & after awhile you just want some darn privacy without fans & reporters in your face all the time.

All I'm saying is this: Worldwide fame isn't always a grand thing. So, just have a blast jamming with your friends in your spare time for kicks. SW1 is impressed Lolly. I mean that. No bull you know what.

    3. southwest1

Not enough people appreciate metal either. I like bands courageous enough to give this genre a go. I say that because you have to have the right front man to cut thru the guitar solos & not get drowned out by them. Plus, the drummer & bassist are the cornerstone to any quality heavy metal act since they set the foundation. The cool thing about metal is this: Even if your microphones, speakers, & sound system sucks, gritty vocal quality adds to the mystique of metal.

Established household name acts have the luxury of sound techs, drum techs, guitar techs, & lighting specialists which make anybody look & sound spectacular. Keep on rocking my man!

I like that you took on different genres too. Metal, pop, rock, country etc. Good variety there which shows your versatility & fans like it because that don't feel pigeonholed. No square peg in a round hole dilemma.

    4. southwest1

      southwest1

I'd actually buy your live version of "Take Me Home Tonight" & Ah Ha's "Take On Me" if they were available on You Tube.

Nicely done Lolly! :hat: Really top notch covers there. I'm being serious.

SRV's version of Little Wing is actually better than the original in my book.

But Gypsy Eyes is still my favorite song in the world. Jimi was the innovator, and the reason I started playing. I heard it on my mom's record, and I said, that's it......I want to do that!

    3. crazycolt1

My favorite Jimi song is Power To Love off the Band Of Gypsy's album. I also like all of his covers of the Dylan songs too.

Darn man, even sound check/rehearsal stuff sounds good. That's how you know SRV is special, his improv, goofing around shenanigans  could qualify as a multi-platinum album just on the fly.

Another facet I like about rock n roll, southern rock in this case, is this carefree version of 'Sweet Home Alabama' by a woman named Vale Acevedo. It's not the best rendition I've ever heard, but I like her defy convention attitude I'm doing it my way or the highway vibe to it. As in, I'm only here to entertain myself & cut loose baby.

The previous clip above should stop or technically ends at the 4:41 mark BTW. I'm not sure why it continues to proceed onward beyond that point. There really is no need for the Spanish dialogue that follows. Artists need to know when to drop the final curtain & wrap up a performance.

I've never heard Led Zeppelin's "Ramble On" with a Techno vibe before. Bogie might even like this arrangement by a young lady named Kawehi. I know Zep isn't exactly your favorite band Bogie, but this cover is certainly landmark in it's scope & besides her 3 dog portraits on the wall will probably mark their territory on anybody who dislikes this number. LOL!

      Coolest lyrics ever IMO...

"T'was in the darkest depths of Mordor, I met a girl so fair.
But Gollum, and the evil one crept up and slipped away with her, her, her....yeah."

While the Eagles were pretty popular before Joe joined them they were known as an easy listening band. They were a cross between easy listening with a country back ground.

When Joe joined they took his sound and made Hotel California and the rest is history. His attitude effected Don Henley and he actually took more of a lead than before.

Yeah, I know it's 3 times, but this baby is the best version & well greased machine now. Trust me. This version literally brings the house down to rumble & ashes.

I must admit I have seen Peter Gabriel and Genesis live and those two put on maybe the best live shows I have ever seen with the exception of Pink Floyd.

I will return to football threads soon. Moving is so tedious. Selling your old place, deciding what to donate, pitch, keep, waiting to move into a new place, of course; the eternal joy otherwise known as paperwork--change of address stuff & fighting for reasonable disability accommodations in the new spot. Sigh, nothing is ever easy is it? haha

In the meantime, I need to hear Bruce & the boys live today. Hit me with some "Moonchild" please.

Even when I'm 80, if I make it that far; I'll still be listening to Iron Maiden & heavy metal til I drop. Superb gritty cover Heidi!
