Back to Houston and Stroud. If Stroud becomes what he looks like he will become while Richardson busts due to injury or poor play, 15 years from now, that decision is all Ballard will be remembered for. It's his approach in general - sit back and take no risks. Let it come to you.
Ballard's record - Leonard and Nelson looked like amazing picks at the time, but it was short-lived. Ballard hit on Taylor, but even that turned into a mess. There isn't much else to jump up and down about, honestly - a few nice picks here and there. Not much success on the field either. At some point, your record is what it is.

Nah they typically just ask soft ball questions
And they make it up on the spot - ask the first thing that pops into their heads.

After the Jeff Saturday insanity, I honestly wonder if he cares.

Anyone know if Ballard talks typically at the owners meetings. They are next week.
He does, but for whatever reason, no one uploads the video.
It appears there won't be much of anything new to talk about.

The bigger point should be that we have arrived at a place where 10-7 would feel like a major accomplishment, a major success.
If that's the case, and it is, you're on the wrong path.

You don't have to go classic Dan Snyder, but throwing the fans an occasional free agency bone is good for business. Excite the fan base a little and keep them interested.
This is the least interest I've had in an offseason and draft since I don't know when.

I’ve been all aboard the Ballard train for a long while but I’m about ready to hop off.
Hop off and take a horse and buggy. The Ballard train is going nowhere.

JMV had an interesting thought as to why people are so grumpy about sports in Indiana in general right now. Unless you are a Purdue basketball fan it’s been a long time since any of the major Indiana sports teams have been a winner consistently.
And they flame out in the tournament practically every year.
In the post-Luck era, people are jaded. It feels like it's going nowhere.

When it comes to defense, you can make a strong argument that Ballard has been better in free agency/trades than the draft.
Why does he shy away from it? Who knows.

If Richardson doesn’t work out, the absolute best thing Ballard could do to keep as much of that stink off of himself as he could would be to build a team that showed improvements in other areas.
There's only one way Ballard could survive another Richardson season knockout or a Richardson bust: they hedge their bets, draft another young QB, and that QB shows quite a bit. Even a 9-8 or 10-7 repeat of what Minshew did from Flacco probably wouldn't save Ballard.

Like I said he wants no drama around Richardson. Nothing to do with Fields but the drama
Yeah, I heard Kevin say that. I thought it was a little short-sighted. If Richardson has an injury plagued season or is knocked out for the year in week 6, is he still your future? Are you still worried about his feelings and emotional state?Things can change pretty quickly in the NFL.
Fields isn't happening, but based on what we saw last year, Indy might be the exact spot where you should hedge your bets with two young QBs.
Personally, I would be happy with a Minshew/Tannehill type vet.
-
With Tannehill, you would be in roughly the same position you were with Minshew. If Richardson is out four games, Tannehill could split them. If Richardson is out for the season, you could go 9-8, maybe 10-7, if things go right.
-
With Sam, I would love to hear what Steichen thinks of him. If, in recent months, the local media has asked him one question about Sam, I don't remember it.
-
Given what we saw with Richardson last year, backup QB should be a high priority. Hopefully, backup QB isn't in Ballard's revolving blindspot in 2024.

Newsflash, the Pacers ARE rocking
That might be a little overboard. Currently, they're an inconsistent 6th seed, 5-5 in their last 10. They win 3, then lose 3. Their winning percentage is only slightly higher than the Colts' 9-8.
Maybe by next year, they will be rocking.
As far as Caitlyn Clark to the Fever goes, if a WNBA team somehow affected an NFL team's ticket sales, I'm guessing it would be a first in sports history.
The NFL suspended blackouts in 2015.

Give it few more years... It's not fair to compare 70s and 2000s to only last 5 years.
It's not accurate to currently call it stacked either.

They will if the chiefs keep winning superbowls. They are grinding out postseason wins like it is easy…it would be easy to look back at the afc and say, man those teams could have been in the superbowl but they had to go through the chiefs
But that's not how people define a stacked era - just looking at one team. You need multiple champions and multiple teams consistently competing. See the AFC in the 2000s and 70s. Currently, you have none of that. The Bills consistently make the playoffs. That’s about it.
The whole "the AFC is stacked" thing was born out of the AFC West free agent frenzy last year where people were calling it the greatest division ever. That obviously didn't materialize. The AFC West was mediocre at best.
-
In 20 years, I'm not sure anyone will look back on the current AFC and think it was loaded, especially compared to the 2000s or 1970s AFC. 2023 was a pretty lackluster year in the AFC, really.

I wish chiefs would go away. The SB is not very exciting when they are in it every year.
My guess: It will be a repeat of the first Niners/Chiefs Super Bowl. The Niners will limit them, but like Garopollo, Purdy won't score enough, won't come through in the clutch.

No one should be surprised. Hell, the Ravens lost to us. Lol

Never trust the Ravens in the playoffs.

Hopefully, none, but be smart and prepare for 4 a year.

Belichick is getting about as much interest as Wentz did last offseason.
Colts offseason discussion / Ballard Grievances (merge)

Pre-Peyton, Indianapolis was a basketball city, by a mile. It then did a 180, becoming a football city, by a mile.
The post-Luck - it's so tired. Ballard is boring people to death, doing his best to turn Indy back into a basketball city.
