No didn't catch who he beat for that.
AC and Louis before that.
-
At least we found that they can pass protect. The 2nd stringers om the o-line ALL look fringe to me though.-Save Good whom is an untapped rookie- And the guards need upgraded.
The defensive front 7 depth is good. most linemen we have played well. and the linebackers were all adequate. even Werner didn't do 'horrible'. he didn't stand out like Walden, but was not overly horrible like some said he was.
Louis and Herrimans.....who will drop to 2nd string when Donald gets healthy is my question.
-
I was responding to people who said he was behind griff and the other camp bodies.
The people who are killing Carter are being just as ridiculous as the guys who expected way to much from him. God lord, if he had dropped a pass, fumbled and then gotten injured people would be killing him.
Granted. Rookies are expected to have learning curves.and EVERYONE has bad games. He has potential,..just has alot to learn.

Lemonade is too little complimet IMO,...more like lemon meringue pie. One play he was met in the backfield-like the whole day- but more than 1 player 2 yards deep, and disappeared....reappearing 2 yards on the other side.
Varga, Robinson, Gore show why Colts want power, 1 cut runners. Herron is a good change of pace back who can make plays as an outlet receiver.
Boom had a nice game. Robinson, outside of 1 bad play, made lemonade out of the crappy lemons he was given.
VARGA... can't say enough about this guy. Dang fine job last night. Tough, shifty, north and south runner, surprisingly quick too. Want to see more of his play.

I like our D-line. Have said so since right after the draft. Most were just new, and rookies and needed to learn the scheme and the players next to them. We have depth, None are superstars, but put a bunch of good players together for me over a superstar and 3-4 average guys.
-
The final answer from me is that we found out Kendall Langford can stuff the run, Jalil Brown can help this team, and Tyler Varga can make this team 'somewhere.'
Langford was really solid when Art Jones was playing. He not only penetrated, he also ran over 2 guys to make a couple of huge hits. When Art Jones hurt his ankle, Langford was not as solid as he switched to the left D.
Jalil Brown made the terrific interception, reading his own safety as well as the receiver for a nifty INT and run back.
Tyler Varga 'searched for his holes', found them, and flat out ran over them. His TD run was something special. In addition, he and Zurlon Tipton were the first players down on Special teams. How about Varga as our fourth string back/FB/Multi-purpose player? I think we would love it. We kept Stanley Havilli, so Vargo CAN make this team. If not, he is the kind of player Bill Belichick will turn into Julian Edelman. We NEED toughness on this team. JMO.
I will be back for more commentary HA HA!! !!
I agree with the Varga assessment, he could fill the FB role.

The starters are showing why they were picked. Mewhort learning his new role. Holmes played solid, so did AC. Beng it was the Rams defense,it makes it more outstanding. ...... 0..that's 0 sacks.
But our real issue looks like the Guards Herrimans and Louis. They could not keep their guys out of the backfield on run plays if they payed them to do it.....
Those who been saying 'freeRietz'....you mean let him go? Him and Harrison were positively awful.
-
I guess he somehow earned playing time with Luck.
No Dorsett allowed him to play with Luck.
He's still VERY raw in his route running. Letting DB's dictate where he goes is not a sign of a starter.-or even 2nd stringer-
But he shown tools that makes him keepable and trainable. When Luck had to throw the early pass and carter looked up at the end of his route, the ball was already there, yet he somehow caught it. Most rookie's won't catch that. He just needs to learn to play more physical against DB's.
-
Then the Defensive front 7 overall is in ok shape. Gave very little against the run, and constant pressure on the QB.
The o-line found it's 'groove' in pass protection. But let's not have Harrison back in a center, he stunk up the field. Mewhort showed he can play well all around at RT. Louis and Herrimans hurt the run game today.
Could not get a good look at Robinson vrs. starting defenses because no-one can do anything trying to dodge 2-3 people in your face the moment you are handed the football. -But he had a SENSATIONAL pass block in the A.J. TD.-
Carter looks like a rookie by allowing himself to get pushed off routes.
Luck is rusty. 4-5 passes he normally would complete were off target -this will get cleaned up-
Walden verifies his starting role. The guys motor and pass rush was superb.
The defense tackled VERY well. especially Butler, 2 different plays he upended people.
Special teams looked 'special' for once this preseason.
Communication in the secondary needs improvement. A few late transitions to receivers ended with giving up easy completions.
All in all, looked like Indy worked on things and shored up important area's. Repetition will clear away some of the miscues,- like Lucks accuracy, and pass defense.- But our guards could be trouble for us vrs teams like Miami, Buffallo, Texans, ect.

Colts scratches: Dorsett, Ballard, Toler, Carr, Irving, D Thomas, Thornton, Fleener.
Colts inactives: WR Phillip Dorsett, CB Greg Toler, TE Coby Fleener, G Donald Thomas, LB Robert Mathis, G Hugh... http://t.co/8HeE45cOFo
Lance louis didn't show up either...he may have been on the field, but he didn't show up. Was a revolving door in the run game.
-
I think you're way overrating Robinson. He didn't exactly tear it up against 1st team competition.
Doesn't really matter, it's going to be Gore for two series, Boom for one, repeat, and the third RB will get carries in the fourth Q if we're winning.
Adrian Peterson wouldn't have done any better when most of the time 2-3 linemen are in the backfield waiting on you.
-
how has he? (I ask because I cant watch the games, not to argue). I see he had 6car 16yards...not exactly impressive but I could be missing something.
Our o-line didn't block well vrs the run. Alot of those carries were hit at or behind the line.
Robinson had the worst of it,..seeing 2-3 guys meeting him behind the line multiple times. I was amazed he got a 2 yard gain on what i thought was a sure 2 yard loss.
-
Defensively,We absolutely have depth. Not a lot of superstars, but a bunch of guys backing up other guys that are at or near their playing level. that is known as depth.
Best way to use this s to move them in and out of the lineup often, keep every defensive front 7 guy fresh the entire game. This will allow guys whose motor or stamina is not the best, always putting out 100% on plays they are out there.
-
I don't think he's next man up material, either. And I don't know about using a regular roster spot and certainly a game day roster spot for a guy who isn't ready to play the position yet. I think he can play the extra OL role, but I don't see him getting the shot to play that position.
Exactly my point of my post. Good is not a starter, not yet. But there is alot of potential there and using him as an extra body to help the o-line would be beneficial multiple ways. Not only do you get a physically gifted man on the edge helping with blocking, you also give him playing time to learn his role.
This is not a every play scenario,...not even often. Just in terms of short yardage situations, or just to mix the pot so to speak.
He could be our long term answer to RT,...But he needs game time reps to learn quicker if Mewhort does not pan out there.
-
Here, I have your answer vrs great DE's- like Watt- while Mewhort learns the position.
Mewhort listed as RT. But Good comes in listed as eligible receiver outside Mewhort. This allows Mewhort a guy outside him giving him a 'comfort zone', While Good gets experience playing as a RT.
This cuts down real receivers...but adds serious pass protection, and run blocking.

Didn't I already start a game 3 prediction thread right after the bears game?
Oh well, it's all good
-
It's about who can stay healthy down the stretch between those 3.
-
It will be situational.
If the Corner is bigger, more aggresive, Dorsett will play more.
If he is smaller, faster type, then Montcrief will have the majority of the snaps.
Pep talks about finding mismatches and taking advantage of them
With both those guys, we have a mismatching dream.
Fully expect 1 guy to play alot one week then the other having a big day a different week.
It's not about who deserves it more, it's about winning.
-
I don't really count him cause he was here before Grigson and was a Polian pick plus he is on the decline
You cannot truthfuly say he's on the decline when the last season he played he was the NFL sack leader. granted, he got seriously hurt, and is a little older, so your perception is most likely right. But until he actually hits the field and shows his production, what you said is just that..an assumption.
-
Yeah, sorry about repeating the article, it wasn't until an hour ago that I read the grigson article all the way through and saw you posted it and it was too late to take back the thread. There were 12 pages and I was reading it from back on the 3rd page and it was very long to get all the way through.
NP, just letting you know i seen it earlier. I think they graded so high because we DID drat by need..even the first rounder. Granted it might not have been the priority of OL or DL, but the quality we got at DL in this draft seems worth it so far. And Good has potential, alot of it.
-
Kerr or Parry needs to start. Kerr has the raw ability, but was inexperienced. Parry has a motor that doesn't stop. Both attack the o-lines aggressively rather than trying to just take up blockers like Chapman.
Experience for both of these guys would be good, especially Parry. The more Parry is in with 1's, the more I think he'll learn and adapt.
-
yeah, i posted this in the "grigson has some explaining to do" thread yesterday. Some people don't like BR, but it rates Indy's draft performance so far as an A-. Saying it "fills Indy's needs top to bottom'

Man there are a lot of them:
- Albert Bently - RB turned FB when the Colts signed Dickerson, total team player
- Billy Brooks
- Clarence Verdin - Great all around ST player and could be counted on for an exciting play or two.
- Terrence Wilkins - Another ST, I think he is still the only Colt to score a TD on a KR, PR and a reception in the same game. He was like 5'8" 160lbs but he made is mark.
- Justin Snow - The Colts did not have to worry about a long snapper for 10+ years with him
- Ryan Lilja, he and Scott formed probably the most athletic pair of guards in the NFL.
- Adam Meadows, played out of position at LT his rookie season but then moved to RT and
- Ken Dilger. One of the best all around TEs in the game. And then he eevn threw a TD pass.
also Ray Buchanan
Completely forgot 'big play Ray' and 'The Bently'. Those were great underrated players.
-
So far, I know Chapman has the experience, but Looks to me like Parry and Kerr make more plays happen. They are younger, and need experience, But i like how they both fight the o-line aggressively.

I meant if Herrimans and Louis paid the rams defensive line.... they still could not stop them.
And Rietz has not looked very good this preseason either.
