  1. I would not take Zeke if he was given to the Colts.

The Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has done back-flips  and somersaults to cover up, or smooth over that which could not be covered up, what Zeke has done since he's came into the league.

Ballard would not put up with what Zeke has done.  If you don't know all the antics Zeke has had off the field, perhaps you should google it,  they are quite numerous.

Plus the fact that he is still in his rookie contract and crying about the money he's getting?   Everyone in the NFL has to get paid by that rookie pay scale.  And it's not like he's getting 4th-7th round rookie $, He was drafted top 5, and get's nearly 4 mil this year. Next years 5th year option is nearly 10 mil.  Jones has probably paid out all this excess money that Zeke wants, just to keep his off field antics under wraps.

Granted, now that he has played 3 years in the NFL, he is allowed to have an extension offered.  But generally stars are paid not only for what they bring to the field, but how you represent your team off the field.

This 1 single report explains that he has been in at least 4 police reports since 2014.  And this report was posted in 2017.

His latest incident involved a confrontation with police in May that end with him in hand cuffs!  And:-----

"The NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell met with Mr. Elliott to reinforce the standards of conduct expected of him and the consequences for failing to meet those standards."

Do you really want a player where the Commissioner personally had to tell your player to straighten up,...or else??

  2. This Luck news is really no news IMO.  It's just a soft tissue injury, that because he has compensated that specific muscle's workload to another muscle/tendon, that started hurting also.  It happens anytime you injure a muscle or tendon, yet still try to work with it.

He's now just being cautious, and doesn't want to push himself or the leg, because what happened to his shoulder is still so fresh in his mind.

As for the minor injuries to other players,..I say those are absolutely awesome!

When was the last time you remember a training camp/off season where no-one who was projected a starter, or fringe starter, ended up going to IR?  Most teams have a serious injury or two by now, we've been so lucky. (knock on wood).

Really excited for this coming Browns game.  Can't wait to see how our defense handles the potentially dynamic offense they have.

Cann is gone sadly - she went to Carolina, she was the Kelly Crull to what the Cubs have. Just keep us updated on Luck's health and play + how TY looks, that is the main key to us being great. Nelson and Leonard are real young, not worried about them. Thanks my friend.

I know Cann left.  But we had this meeting set up 3 months ago prior to her leaving the organization.  She kept her word on this, even after she left, she set this up between me and the Colts.  Great woman.

  4. I'll be going to a few practice sessions at training camp this year.  Any of you going also?

I plan on doing some scouting of the team, mostly some of our unknowns, and see if I can get a feel for what we really have out there.  I'll be there the 25th, that's the date I'm doing something for a fan that cannot make it to training camp.  Caroline Cann and the Colts organization have set something up, so I can do this for that person.  While I'm there on that day, I'm hoping to get to speak to a few people, Colts and media both.

Any of you have anything specific you'd like me to check on, watch for, or ask if I get the chance?

Pretty excited to be able to do this, hope I can make at least this one fan's wish come true!

(I'll explain what's going on in that area after it happens.  Reason's.)

It will be interesting this year. If he stays healthy, he should be top 10 in yards. I'm guessing he'll lose short yardage and late game (when we are up) carries to Ware, which is fine with me. That should help keep him healthy and more productive when he does get the ball. His YPG I'm guessing will be similar, but his YPC should go up.

I'd say that would be impressive, considering Edgerrin James never topped what Marlon Mack did YPC wise last year.

  6. I think our Run defense has stood the real test last year, as holding some of the best running games to minimal stat lines.

But this year, we face lesser RB's, and much better QB's and WR's.  So that will truly test our DB's.  But I feel with a second season in the system, and a better understanding by our young players, they should be up for the task.

Especially since I think our run defense is legit, and be able to hold opponents run games in check, and making them go one dimensional, since our offense is, shall we say, very well balanced, and will be putting points on the board.  They will be playing catch-up, like the good old days.

  7. I don't see Walker as a Sam, and I don't see him losing his starting Mike job any time soon.  He is the reason the Colts were so good against the run last year.  His ability to break down film on his own, and use that for play recognition on the field, allowed him to put the defense in the right positions last year to be as good as they were.  The guy is like having a coach on the field.  He makes everyone around him better.

The drafted linebackers will be fighting for starting jobs, but the only linebacker position i see as take-able is Sam. Not saying the other two will be useless players though.  Depth is really important.  Being able to let starter's have a breather while not lessening the talent on the field too much is a huge benefit.

But no matter who wins the starting positions, our defense definitely took a step forward in this past off-season.

The other worrisome thing is that many of today’s G/C are 6’2” +

That part doesn't worry me as much, As Shippy said to me, "My height can be used as an advantage, getting lower than the blockers when I come off the snap.  Helps with getting by then."

  9. A lot of people said Shippy was too short to play DT for the Colts, but after my interview with him, and watching his tape, he has a lot going for him.  Humble, really great release of the ball, constant 100% hustle, And the fact he knows he has other shortcomings that he hopes pro coaching will help him with.

I've congratulated him, and hope he becomes the next John Randle. (I don't expect it, but it never hurts to hope)

Our unprecedented streak stands at 20 years right now of an UDFA making the final 53.

With all 22 starting positions already accounted for from returning players and the signings of Funchess and Houston, it'll be hard pressed for any of our 10 draft picks to start, let alone make the final 53.

In your mind what position group(s) could a potential UDFA surprise?

    Long Snapper?

    Marquis Young as a 4th RB/KR?

    Penny Hart as a WR/KR?

A CB and/or S that takes over Milton's and Odum's special teams ace role? Corey Turner, Shak Taylor, Jamal Peters, Chris Rayford?

One of Jordan Thompson or Sterling Shippy as a DT/UT?

    What are your thoughts?

Honestly, When i noticed we really didn't get any new 'true' DT's, I started researching our UDFA's.  Then after talking with Shippy, I really like his chances.

    Good kid.

  11. Cowboys aren't in cap hell due to going out and 'buying' players.  They just have a ton of resources in their offensive line, and Defensive front 7.

This is the exact same thing Ballard is trying to do.  Only, I hope he is able to work finances a little better over the long term stretch. He has cap room ATM he can use to help with that, by extending certain players this year and next.

Yes....    I only made a point to note that he wasn't a first round pick because I've noticed a small rash of posts this draft season that basically amount to......

If we can't get a good pass rusher in the first round,  then we're not going to get one in this draft.

That you can't get one after the first round in most any draft.

I was trying to note that this is basically not true.

I'll let Robert Mathis know this, next time I talk with him,....lol

Even if something isn't broken,  you should still always be looking for ways to improve.

What was broke was the lack of commitment to the run game after Mack returned week 7 Vrs the Jets.

At that time Indy had their starting O-line set, and Mack was back.  After that He ran really well.  The Problem at this time was not our stable, it was (as Reich said himself) the commitment to the run game.

Any time Mack carried the ball 15+times, our run game benefited. It softened the opposing defense's with bruising run blocks throughout the game, and Mack got better and better as each game went on.  Mack averaged 5+ YPC and 120+ YPG anytime he carried the ball 15+ times.  The Only exception to this was week 7 vrs the Jets ,where Mack carried 12 times for 89 yards. was getting his carries but Our defense was not able to stop the passing game at the time, and Indy fell behind and Reich turned to the passing game.

Reich's biggest problem last year was he went to the pass way too much earlier in the season.  And If Indy fell behind in a game (Sans the K.C. game) he would give up on the run game entirely.

After Mack got back from his hamstring issue from preseason, he was fine, finishing out the final 9 games plus 2 play-off games.  I don't think injuries is an issue for him. He was pulled from that first game because of re-aggravating the same hamstring, same thing happened to A.C.  .  Colts just tried to get their players on the field too fast.

I think we will see a more steadfast Reich when it comes to the run game this coming year.  Learning from last year, that even if your first 4-5 run's don't go for 4+ yards, does not mean you should go away from it.  Sometimes a run game takes a full quarter or 2 to really start going and establish a rhythm.

Plus, this will be Mack's 3rd year, His 2nd year was a massive leap in his total RB abilities.  Same could happen for Hines and Wilkins.  Plus a young O-line learning and developing together.  As the year wore on they worked much better together as they got to know each other, and the RB got to know them as well.

This Running game will be top 10 next year, and Indy doesn't even need to add any pieces, just what we have. As long as Reich stays committed to it each and every game.

  14. This offseason just started. No need to worry about what hasn't happened, when we still have tons of time.  Kelly and Heag can be extended right now if Ballard wants to.  And next year Hooker, Wilson, Mack, Hairston, and Walker can all be extended if he chooses.  There are places to spend the excess cap spend min to help get to the 89% average.

But Ballard will get guys like he did last year.  Scheme fit guys that are locker room friendly, but not going to break the bank. It's about building something that can be nearly completely refreshed with future drafts, as we loose players, not filling holes for now.  It is a system that is proven to work with teams that draft well.  Ballard does that.  He's not changing his system just because there is excess $$.  It's not being cheap, it's being smart within the system.

Resign our own? Desir has played his way into a new contract and yet Ballard let’s him test the market. Ballard has said we’ll award players that earn a second contract. Too me Desir has earned a raise. Reward our own? Ok ty will be 30 on his next deal( don’t think he’ll command that much at that age). Leonard and Nelson still 4-5 years away. Hooker 3 years. Castonzo will cost a bit if Ballard wants him back. But other than that who else superstar status do we have to resign? Luck? Yea he’s got two years left. I don’t see what’s wrong with handing out a four year deal and front loading it so the last two years are manageable.

Why you say Desire? He was a Free agent.  Not a Colts pick.  Kelly, Heag,  can be extended now.  Hooker, Wilson, Mack, Hairston and Walker next year.  Some of those aren't huge stars right now, but they've shown to be good enough players to keep.  And depending on the play, sometimes it takes 3 years to get into your groove.

  16. 1st: Wow. Gratz for the Browns.  It is a steep price, but probably worth it in the long run since they have all those guys for the next 3-4 years under contract.  And his 'deva' antics are misconstrued.  His sideline exploits have almost always been him upset with himself. He's been a stand-out guy when it comes to the media/locker room talking/defending his team-mates and coaches.

2nd: Ballard hasn't necessarily been conservative.  Everyone I've seen go, that I thought he might go after has went for WAY to much.

3rd: I hope Ballard does what he did last year with a bunch of 2nd/3rd tier guys that come in as scheme players and bring this team up the next level ...again.

4th: Sounds like to me between this year and next, Ballard will have the $$ to extend/resign everyone on their last leg of their contracts, or 3rd years of rookie deals.

5th: All My Opinion (for the most part)

That's a legitimate point, but your earlier assertion was that Collins is good at covering TEs, and that's something on which we have a fundamental disagreement.

And while it's not easy to find safeties who hold up in coverage against TEs, I would argue that there are at least two in this year's FA class who do so better than Collins -- Amos and Phillips, and maybe HHCD. And there are two others (that I know of, maybe more) in the draft class that appear to have the tools and have done an adequate job on tape -- Deionte Thompson and Chauncey Gardner-Johnson.

So if it's important to have a SS who can hold up against TEs and slot receivers -- it's critically important to me, we'll see how important it is to Ballard, Reich and Eberflus -- I think there are better options with greater value than Collins at a premium.

I have no issue finding a Safety to add to depth and fight with other's in that area, especially if they have tools to cover TE's.  I think Leonard could, if given a chance, and not in zone, But his abilities could also be used elsewhere.

I see no issue signing Collins, who is a proven box safety, and drafting another safety for those purposes and letting them fight it out.  Would actually be a decent idea anyhow when Colts are in sub formations.
