  1. I'm with you on CB and IOL. There are starters there for the taking tonight. Smart drafting can nab two of them. I'm especially focused upon Brents. You'd think he would still be there after a prudent, small trade down from pick 35, but its a risk. How badly do you want that extra pick? Ballard loves 'em, so.............expect a trade.
  2. If you put any stock into the RAS scores and line them up with the Colts' needs, you get some interesting guys to watch tonight and into Day 3. Granted, the RAS score isn't the end all, be all of grading a player, but we do know that Ballard keeps a sharp eye on that stat in the Draft. NAME RAS SCORE 1. Zach Kuntz, TE 10.00 2. Julius Brents, CB 9.99 3. Darnell Washington, TE 9.88 4. YaYa Diaby, DE 9.87 5. Jonathan Mingo, WR 9.87 6. Blake Freeland, OT 9.83 7. Darius Rush, CB 9.80 8. Cam Smith, CB 9.69 9. Jon Gaines, G 9.69 10. Isaiah Foskey, DE 9.61 11. Michael Wilson, WR 9.55 12. Rashee Rice, WR 9.53 13. Marvin Mims, WR 9.41 14. Cody Mauch, OT 9.33 15. Luke Wypler, C/G 9.31 16. Sam LaPorta, TE 9.02 I'm looking at Brents, Diaby, Mingo, Freeland, Rush, Gaines, Rice, Mauch and Wypler as the players to watch from this group.
  3. I like the second round trade. It would be a smart move for the Colts and getting both Avila and Rush would be outstanding. I like going CB in the second and G in the third, but it’s hard to complain about your picks. Diaby can most likely be had later, but he’s intriguing. Nice job.
  4. If they stay put at 35, Kelee Ringo. If they move back, perhaps mid second round, it’s Julius Brents. Either of these guys could be starting at CB next season. Besides QB, this position remains the Colts’ greatest need.
  5. No, not depth. The team badly needs a starting CB, RG, and a speedy, “take the top off the defense” receiver. Fill those spots with some quality early picks and you’ve improved the team immediately. I’m not against grabbing a solid blocking, decent hands TE later in the draft…. just not early.
  6. I don’t think the Colts make a move from 4. Great draft though if it happens. Thanks for doing this.
  7. Just a bad idea. With the team having genuine depth problems at several key positions, grabbing yet another TE, especially early in the draft, should not be on the shopping list. CB; IOL; WR. All are need positions critical to this team’s growth and there is talent there in rounds 2-4. That’s where the team should be focused, and I suspect that’s where they’ll go.
  8. Lamar kills your cap. The Colts aren’t a player away from competing. They need to rebuild on the fly and with a rookie QB salary. Sign Lamar to his long term, fully guaranteed contract and you can kiss the near and long term future goodbye. It just doesn’t work for the Colts.
  9. I see a lot of Josh Allen too. Not a bad thing.
  10. A few more trade downs and you could have an entire new team….. 53 rookies! I’m not trying to be snarky….. but the sheer number of trades in your mock would set a record and then some. Thanks for doing this though. I know it takes work.

“It’s from Irsay. He says we have options with the 4th pick. Why is he saying this just before the draft? Is he messing with me?”
  12. I’m a Stanford fan. McKee isn’t in the same league as the top 4. You’re talking career backup trajectory for him at best. I’d take Stroud all day long. Great prospect.
  13. Well said. I think he’s given a wide berth by the Colts and many other teams. Someone will take a chance on this being a temporary brain spasm because the man is talented. But it won’t be the Colts IMO.
  14. Using this theory, you could wait years before either picking your future QB or being in position to get the top one in the draft. You have to take a risk or you’ll always be waiting for the perfect guy. Or, put another way, you’ll be experiencing Groundhog Day over and over down 6-0 in the bottom of the 2nd inning. No thanks.
  15. TN doesn’t have the draft capital this year to entice AZ ( no extra high picks). So if they were to trade up, they will have to be offering up a future first rounder in addition to their first and second this year. That’s what it should take to entice AZ to trade that far down in this year’s first round. And that’s a serious roll of the dice if the target is Richardson or Levis. I don’t see it. My guess is AZ stays put and the Colts get their choice of the remaining 2 QBs.
  16. There have been some pretty convincing arguments on this thread about the “drop rate” Richardson experienced last year….. meaning his completion % is deceivingly low. I’m not suggesting Richardson doesn’t have a lot of work to do; just that he’s a better prospect than some Members here give him credit. That said, I’d be perfectly happy with Levis as the #4 pick. Over Richardson.
  17. I don’t see Seattle making that move. They’ll roll with Geno. I also think the Raiders will roll with Jimmy G. The Lions, however, with Goff….. they are a team to watch here. The trade down to 6 from 3 still nets the Cards a top D player. And they can harvest a lot of draft capital from Detroit. That’s the quiet move I’d be fearing if I’m the Colts’ brass. As for the mock, this is a nice job. I don’t believe Julius Brent makes it out of the 2nd round, however. And Tippmann might not either. I could see a trade down from pick 35 to the mid round, pick up an earlier 3rd rounder, and get both Brent and Tippmann. They would have to forego the Tenn. WR, but Richardson, Brent and Tippmann would be quite a haul with the first three picks.
  18. I agree. Perhaps it’s because they want the youngsters to become full time starters, but McLeod was one of Ballard’s best free agent finds. I’d re-sign him if he’s willing.
  19. I would think a player would have to be added to any package since Tenn has no extra draft capital this year to give up. They have the 11 pick, mid round 2nd and 3rd, and that’s about it. For AZ to trade back that far, the compensation will have to be significant. You’re probably talking next years’ 1 and 2 as well. For QB 3 in this draft? That’s a franchise altering killer if it doesn’t work out. I don’t see it.
  20. I agree with this. And it’s not out of the realm of possibility that Young is there, at least at #3. However, Arizona would be getting pounded with trade offers at that point. Young at 3 is very different from Richardson and Levis at 3. I don’t see the Colts getting him unless they move up.
  21. This is well said. The key to all this: if the Colts were to trade for Lamar, their draft pick pantry would be dry for a few years; their ability to re-sign their own budding star players would be severely diminished with limited ability to replace via the draft; and this team, which is not yet ready to contend, would likely be in mediocrity purgatory for a couple more years. And Lamar is showing signs of breaking down from the constant beating a running QB takes. All of which leads me to say: A hearty NO to a Lamar trade, and YES to the next Colts QB coming from the #4 pick.
  22. Ha! Please do not dredge up that gawdawful decision ever again. What a horrendous trade.
