  1. Juz a heads up ~

Lucky Indy fans can venture out Friday night for a live tweet-up with PK ... All for a good cause too .

    Event Details

Do you have burning questions about the upcoming draft, your team, or other hot topics around the NFL? Do you love Fresh•Local•Beer?  Then make plans to attend the 7th Annual NFL Combine Tweetup with Sports Illustrated columnist and the MMQB's Peter King. Peter and other members of football media will be available to chat and answer your questions in a casual setting. Pints of Sun King will be available for purchase.

Tickets for the event are $10 and all proceeds go to feeding hungry families in Indianapolis via Thrive360 (formerly Kids Against Hunger of Central Indiana). Attendees must be 21 and over.

  2. Like I said, Who cares?

There were also reports that the Colts thought the Patriots used under inflated footballs during the regular season game. If so that may be why Grigson notified the officials be fore the game. Which would make me wonder why the NFL didn't take careful note of what the psi of the footballs was before the game.

    Or better yet ...'

Why didn't the NFL just confront the Pats and inform them that specific concerns have been raised  ?

Why not just tell them that "If you're breaking rules ...knock it off or suffer the consequences ."

( Just like what the NFL did to the Vikings when they were using sideline heaters to warm footballs during games )

Doesn't this seem to be what any normal operation would do ?

Squash controversy b4 it happens...NOT LOOK FOR TROUBLE ?

Conducting what appears to be a witch-hunt  ( or a justifiable sting - depending on your allegencies ) seems to be the LAST THING Roger Goodell's NFL brand needed to be doing near the conclusion of what can only be described as the worst NFL season in decades ( PR wise anyways )

Hopefully this whole fiasco ends with Goodells head on a spiget .

  3. Can we all get away from one aspect of these discussions?

If draft picks are taken away from an NFL team as part of a penalty/punishment, they are never "awarded" to another team. Even if the Patriots are found 100% guilty, the Colts will not just be given what would have been NE's first rounder (or any other pick).

At least there is no precedent for it. Teams have "traded" picks with other teams to sign coaches who were under contract or whatnot, but that's a different situation.

Actually there is precident for one teams draft picks being awarded to another -  usually it involves some type of player tampering .

If either team is ultimately found to have tampered with a football ... my guess is though highly doubtful -the league might  take the drastic step of exchanging picks .

At this point though I'm pretty sure we all know this will likely end without any conclusive findings ...just too muddled .

  4. What if the moon was your car and Jupiter was your hair brush?

     That's an EZ one Hooshie

      MOON + JUPITER                              PATRIOTS   45

     ---------------------------           =           ------------------------

     CAR  + HAIRBRUSH                           COLTS          7

  5. If its found out that several balls were under inflated significantly (lb or more) and it was done by someone I say you have to do C. Its about culture....Belicheck and Kraft have let a culture of making it acceptable to flirt and sometimes go over the line of sportsmanship and the leagues laws. Culture is set by management...from what they allow, how they lead, and who they hire. The Saints coaches and GM got a season suspension...I would imagine it might be something similar to this. If this was a first infraction for them perhaps some leeway but I think they got that last time. The way the NFL covered up and destroyed all the evidence from the last issue and the slap on the wrist (which I think could be argued would be worse than what was reported here) I think you have to come down hard. If it comes out they did this...the punishment needs to be severe because it no longer is an isolated incident...now its behavior. Thats it...done with this topic until the evidence is released.

    Don't be so naive ...

The NFL didnt protect the Pats "last time " ...The NFL protected "The Shield " ( just like it always does )

When the Pats turned over ALL their tapes back in 2007 - they also turned over footage of OPPOSING teams video taping the Pats.

Part of the arranged "plea -deal " was a gag order that BB has held strong to ( with the exception of a pre-SB presser where he became annoyed by a media pion's cloying  , ill-informed questions and let down the curtain for a moment  - stating the "secret sideline video taping " was done in front of 80k fans .

I don't blame COLTS fans ( or any opposing fans ) enjoyment in reveling in the Pats demise ( warranted or not ) ...I'd do the same if it wasn't my team .

The over-hyped Spygate era has been put to bed  .

THE "How many SB's have the Pats won since S - Gate ? "  CROWD  HAS TO SIT DOWN AND SHUT UP ...PERMANENTLY .

  6. If it's ultimately discovered that the COLTS were tipped off that the Pats deflate their footballs and subsequently lowered the PSI of their INT ball ( to show a clearly under-inflated feel ) before turning it in to officials ...

WHAT SHOULD THE PUNISHMENT BE ?

    A) Monetary fine

    B) Fine / Loss of 1st round pick

    C) Fine / Loss of 1st round pick / Suspensions for Coach and all involved .

    D) All of the above - plus Pats get Colts 1st rounder .

  7.  If it's ultimately determined that the Pats took their footballs into an area and purposedly deflated them to their preferred specs ...

WHAT SHOULD THE PUNISHMENT BE ?

    A)  Monetary fine

    B) Fine / Loss of 1st round pick

    C) Fine / Loss of 1st round pick / Suspensions for Coach and all involved .

  8. Yeah.....  a guy who tore down an aging and expensive and non-productive roster and completely rebuilt it on the fly.

Year One:   Wins 11 games with a rookie quarterback and a roster built on an $80 mill payroll and $40 Mill in Dead Cap money.

Year Two:   Wins 11 games plus a playoff game.

Year Three:  Wins 11 games plus two playoff games before losing in the AFC Championship.

    C'mon my good man ...

This "unproductive roster " you speak of prior to Grigson's arrival was a sham .

The rest of the sports world has already come to grips with the fact that the Colts org. made a mockery of the game in 2011.

You know perfectly well that your upstanding boy-wonder owner Irsay directed his puppet Polian to pee in the talent pool .

     2- 14 to 11 - 5 wow...what a great feel good story .

Except you left out the part about how prior to Grigsons arrival ( and suk4luck  ) 11 wins would have been considered UNDER-ACHIEVING in Indy .

Hopefully you understand that these 11 Win Grigson seasons you speak of so proudly of are predicated on the taint that is Andrew Luck .

Lucks talent may be the one thing that most Pats and Colts fans see eye to eye on .

    It's real and it's spectacular .

But his Indy connection is , and will always be seen for what it is ...a tank job .

( In some ways not unlike the original situation that the INDIANAPOLIS Colts were born under )

I don't blame Indy fans for loving their team ...and Luck ...but let's not re-write history .

( It's like you find out that your mom was first married to a nice gentleman from Baltimore and your Dad woo'd her away and she re-marries your Dad ... you could care less about how you came to be...you're just happy to be )

The fact is the Colts are currently NOT led by Bill Polian and Peyton Manning because they tanked in 2011 in order to draft Luck ... So be it .

It happens to be THE original "Integrity of the game " issue but it somehow doesn't fit the NFL's shining shield narrative ...or Bob Kravitz'  me -me-media one ....but I digress .

Give ANY Gm a squad led by Luck - especially an organization that AVERAGED 12 wins a season in the prior decade - and throw in some of the most putrid competition the league has ever known ( Ten / Jax / Hou ) and guess what ?

That GM would probably succeed too .

Throw in a coach like Arians to help initially lead the way and my guess is a trained monkey would have a hard time failing .

Then again even a trained monkey wouldn't have mortgaged a 1st rounder for Trent Richardson .

Think about that for a moment ...

Cleveland's front office kicked the crap out of Grigson at the negotiating table ...the CLEVELAND BROWNS !

( actually Banner & Lombardi look pretty good next to the clowns currently running that train-wreck )

The Colts 2012 draft was outstanding ...Luck  / the TE's  / TY late in the 3rd especially

( I wonder if Polian's regime had any initial input into that stellar draft ? ...considering how admittedly putrid his selections were in the years prior ...probably not so much )

In all honesty I'm only semi-kidding in lobbing grenades at Grigson ... Polian's magic was starting to fade by 2009 ...Grigson was an upgrade .

Once again the Colts should be penciled in for 11 or so W's next fall -  due in some measure to what no one can argue is yet another weak schedule .

The problem is once the competition ratchets up in Jan ... cracks become fissures ...Trenches become glaringly devoid of depth ... talent becomes strained  - forced to do too much ...and over-rated GM's gets exposed .

Grigsons' last two drafts have been trending much weaker than his first ...Jury's still out on whether or not he deserves more praise than ridicule .

It may be just wishful thinking on my part  - but I'm hoping his 2012 draft was his peak .

  9. Saw the only tweet from Skip Bayless today that I ever agreed with. If you are Peyton Manning or Kobe Bryant at the end of your careers based on your career on field earnings and your endorsements how are you not playing for free so you can get the best team around you to win another championship? The money isn't going to stop coming in for either of them all of a sudden when they retire...

Bingo Bango Bongo ....nail meet head .

This episode in the peyton manning saga ...Mr. Super-Mod  & Company  ...is about MUN-NEE .

Kept waiting for someone to chime in with the answer ...WTG baba .

PS -  I'm biased of course - but taking your foot off the greed -pedal as your career's idles down is one more reason why Brady > Manning .

  10. U CALL THE SHOTS FOR THE COLTS   ( daddy left you the team )

    circa 2011

If you could choose between the following scenarios  ...

Which would you honestly choose ?

    A)

    1) Legitamately allow Polian to build a competitive team ( resist the urge to throw the season and aquire the #1 pick )

    2) Treat the man who built Lucas Oil with the respect he deserves by honoring his contract and allowing him to finish his career as a Colt .

    3) Win the franchises 2nd Indy SB in 2014 and currently be the reigning Champs .

    OR

    B )

    1) Suck for Luck / Kick #18 to the curb

    2) Watch Denver build a team capable of beating NE ( due in part to Archie's eldest son's aura / FA appeal )

    3) Ride out Luck's career with current regime and sometime b4 he retires win a SB .

I can understand why most ( if not all  ) will choose B .

Personally -  If you replace the scenario with Pats and Brady ...I 'd choose A .

( Loyalty and a current " bird in the hand " trumping Lucks unquestionable "skys-the-limit" potential )

  11. Not meant to be insulting ( just calling it as I honestly see it ...hard for me to sugarcoat what went down in 2011)

The off topic point is duely noted tho ...Fair enough ...you're right -this GM thread is very solid ( and my post leads away from the focus )

Can't see any way to delete it

      ( I'll re-post it under it's own thread   )

  12. Interesting takes by all...how about an even BIGGER hypothetical  :

U be the Colts GM  -  circa 2011

If you could choose between the following scenarios  ...

Which would you honestly choose ?

    A)

    1) Legitamately continue to allow Polian to build the team ( resist urge to throw the season and aquire the #1 pick )

    2) Watch Denver build a team capable of beating NE ( due in part to the Manning aura / FA appeal )

    3) Ride out Luck's carreer with current regime and hopefully surpass NE ( odss improving when  BB / Brady disbands )

I can understand why most ( if not all  ) will choose B .

Personally - If you replace the scenario with Pats and Brady ...I 'd choose A .

( Loyalty and "a bird in the hand " trumping Lucks unquestionable "skys-the-limit" potential )

  13. I love T.Y.s Hilton's game ...if the Colts could accumilate 50 other players of his ability / desire they'd go 19 - 0

It's true he's an overall better wr than Edelman but to be fair Edelman's strength can't just be quantified by catching the football . He's an excellent route runner (reader ) ,great pick setter , awesome blocker , with good hands and big time / big game skills ( not to mention a trusty punt returner - actually the NFLs 3rd best all-time avg, )

My guess is if u asked 32 GMs to pick one it would be split .

Same goes for the two teams wr corps...

GMs would likely be split on their preference .

In my opinion it's a wash at best .

  14. There's a very good reason that "history is written by the victors " .

    1960's = Packers

    1970's = Steelers

    1980's = 49ers

    1990's = Cowboys

    2000's - Present = Patriots

If New England can piece together another SB win before this decade closes out , it would be very hard to argue against them being considered their run as the GOAT .

( Landry's Cowboys Dynasty deserves consideration-especially longivity-wise but Noll's Steelers squashed any GOAT aspirations )

  15. ...and yet u somehow accidentally clicked on thread titled "1 Pats fans opinion" ?

For what its worth - if I wasnt born in Mass Id hate th Pats too ...just like I hated th Dolphins n Steelers in th 70's ...49ers n Cowboys in th 80's n 90's ... Colts in th 00's .

Sports NEED a villain / top dog to knock down a peg or two ... n Belichick plays th part like Meryl F'in Streep on 'roids .

  16. Like most Pats followers - it's not a stretch to say I am NOT a big fan of Bob Kravitz (disclosure - Im also not a spellcheck fan - so be warned ...I'm a habitual word mangler )

My guess is u Indy fans have ZERO idea what it's been like to be a Patriots fan over the last 7 years ...I don't believe there's been anything close to the very real Us Against The World roller coaster ride that we have been living with since an overzealous new commish over-reacted to a video camera PLACEMENT .

Can you imagine if the Colts were docked their 1st rounder n labled cheats NOT for breaking a rule (still not illegal to video tape your opponent ) but for disregarding a Commish directive ( Dont pump in fake crowd noise ...its impolite )

My admittedly uber biased take on Kravitz's part in this fiasco is as follows :

    1) He was a willing pawn .

    2) He tried to keep it professional but when his Twitter feed got projectile vomitted on from the East ( to be expected ) he lashed back by calling for radical means ( Hang BB )Instead of keeping to the high road (easier said than done ).

After his me me mea culpa I went back n re-read his twitter time-line n its clear that instead of just cleaning the garbage off his suit n loafers , he instead gathered it into a neat lil ball , stuffed it into a word processor shaped cannon n fired it back with all the defiance he could muster.

Why did he lose his cool ?

No doubt he was tired of getting slammed from BOTH sides ( Indy fans were slamming him for predicting a Pats victory n then Pats fans were hammering him just for being the messenger )

Luckily - he's cooled off (if u read his real time SB tweets u might think he covered the Pats )

I understand perfectly well why it went down the way it did for Kravitz . Hopefully he continues taking the path toward the high road...hopefully EVERYONE does.
