I didn't say someone who only plays Madden. I specifically said someone who enjoys Madden could be a GM, but they wouldn't be a GM because of Madden.

I think it's possible that a high school kid loves rebuilding in Madden, and goes on a career path to become an NFL GM. Madden might have been the spark to a flame, but it wouldn't be the reason they were a GM, and it certainly wouldn't have equiped them to be a GM at all. That was my point.

That was sort of my earlier argument some posts back. My biggest point being that having actual experience playing football or being around football itself is going to have a larger impact and receive more consideration.

I think it's certainly possible that a Madden player could be an NFL GM, but it wouldn't be due to Madden. Maybe having enjoyed Madden would drive a person to that career path, but it would be education, people skills, and hands-on experience that would make them a good GM.

I'm an IT district manager for a federal agency. I enjoy building teams in Madden, but playing Madden didn't equip me to communicate and deal with people in high pressure situations, and it didn't give me the organizational and managerial skills required in my career.

I think someone working in sales would have a better shot than someone who only plays Madden.

Us giving up a 3rd and a 5th, or a 2nd and getting CHIs 2025 3rd, is peanuts in terms of what we get back.  A generational (by pundit prediction) Move TE......whereas if we just stood at 15 we'd probably have to settle for a Corner, A FS, a somewhat redundant WR, or a non elite EDGE.

But if Bowers is that good, I would think CHI would want him to pair with Williams at QB.  OTOH, they could get a second tier WR at 15 and maybe another piece at 46, could be what they would be thinking.

The best move Chicago could do is get an OT to protect their new asset I think.

I would bet a lot of Madden players played football in high school and possibly college. Most of them are 25 and under. They could easily do coaching or scouting before being a GM or Coach, they have time on their side.

I don’t like betting, but I would bet the reason those future kids end up working in the NFL has more to do with actually having experience in the sport vs. playing Madden.

Being a player doesn't mean you're qualified. There's a lot of players who aren't smart enough to do it as a GM or HC. The old guard won't hold up forever. Something will give. I give it 10 years as I said. Things evolve.

It means they’re more qualified than someone who’s never played the sport. You need people skills to manage people. Madden does not require people skills.

Who is more qualified from a younger generation than Madden players? If you're not born into a football family, then you have to get indoctrinated somehow. Everyone starts somehwere.

Players with actual experience. You’re missing the biggest piece to this: humanism. Playing a video game is passive, there’s disconnect. You don’t have to work with people and manage them because it’s all 1’s and 0’s.

Correction. No one will give a Madden player those things immediately. They will give him on opportunity to work his way up because of the qualification of being a famous top Madden player. After that, it's up to him to prove himself. Hence the 10 year window.

I don’t think any team is actively looking for the top Madden players for ideas of roster building. Unless they by coincidence happen to have a Harvard degree in statistics…

Did Irsay even say anything in public at least about Tobin’s passing I don’t think so . He’s always on X commenting about someone’s passing. I don’t think he said anything about Tobin’s passing that I know of.  Was there some bad blood between them two or what?  I think Tobin only lasted like three seasons with the Colts.

I prefer a star at QB, WR, EDGE, and CB. I wish it was my job. This is something I would love to do. I would thrive at the challenge of taking over an NFL team as GM, building my own coaching staff, my own scouting staff, my own team, and making add/drops, balancing the salary cap, and getting players via the draft, trades, and FA.

When I focus on one thing and have interest, I want to be the best in the world at it. I want to succeed at it. I give my all towards accomplishing that goal. I would do anything to be in Ballards shoes and be able to build a team to win a SB for the city of Indy.

I'll make a bold prediction. Within 10 years, there will be a youtube personality or Madden player that will end up being a HC or GM in the NFL. Logan and Jake Paul have already started this in WWE and Boxing to an extent, and there will be more to follow. I feel at some point, someone will take a chance on someone who is famous in the football world among fans and give them a shot at the big time.

I can see that happening if and only if the person either played football or has been around football in some capacity. Think JT O’Sullivan type of personality.

I can’t see someone who’s only background is Madden just stepping in and managing millions of dollars worth of assets.

If 4 to 5 QB's are drafted before the Colts select at #15 as projected. the Colts should stay right where there are.  They will be able to draft a future All-Pro player if Ballard's assessments are correct. Especially, if the selection is at one of the anchor positions. There will be no reason to overthink it. Take a Day 1 starter -high potential impact player and move on.

My new favorite strategy is to hold at 15 and then trade back in the 2nd round.

  11. Williams if I had to choose. But I think the expectations are already too lofty for him and Bears fans. I’ve seen some outlandish takes on social media, including one post that claims Williams would go #1 overall over Luck, Lawrence, Burrow, and Murray if they were all drafted together.

Give me Luck every single time. Highest rated prospect since Elway. And Burrow had just about the greatest senior year season of all time at LSU. Lawrence won a championship. Maybe Williams would go over Murray, but he sure as hades ain’t going over Luck, Burrow and Lawrence.

    Interesting:

    San Antonio Chiefs

    Portland Chiefs

    Louisville Chiefs

Oklahoma City Chiefs or Tulsa Chiefs

    Omaha Chiefs

There are several options out there.

It would be more interesting if there was a movement to change the name of the team during the move.

    St. Louis Chiefs…

It will be interesting to see how the first round plays out.   The more gbs picked the better.   If I had dream pick at 15 it would be Dallas Turner.  I'm not confident he will be there.   The more qbs picked the better

Ballard said the same thing on Rich Eisen’s show. We need some desperate teams to make desperate moves. Definitely think Giants, Broncos and Vikings are teams to watch.

The more  I watch  Ballard's presser, I think he trades back. I thought this was the year to move up but I think he is going to address the offensive line with Smith and Kelly up. To many holes , as he sees it, to move up to acquire secondary starter and Oline depth.

Same. Trading back is most likely. Like you said earlier though I hope we don’t give away a player to Jacksonville that will come back to haunt us.

To be honest if Chris feels the roster is as good as he says, then we shouldn’t even need to trade back to fill more holes. Just stand pat and pick…

My best guess is Brian Thomas Jr. is the target. He fits the deep threat and YAC Ballard mentions.
Depending on how the draft falls Colts can land land him with a small trade up, stay at 15 or a trade down

PFF draft simulator suggest Colts can trade down to 20-22 pick up an additional second rounder and draft Thomas and then land a db and ol in the second.

I’ve seen the Jags pick him up in a few mocks.

A common thing that Ballard likes to say is, every pick is a throw at the dart board.  And regarding trading down, he always likes to have more throws.

I don't disagree with that.  However, I would also like to state the opinion that not every throw at the dart board is the same.  Some throws are from 10 feet.  Some throws are from 40 feet.  I would rather have two 10-foot throws than five 40-foot throws.

    Just my opinion.

I agree. Generally 1st round picks are 50/50, and from there the probability gets more difficult.

I wonder what he'd do if the offers at #15 suck, though.

I know everything this time of year is coachspeak and smokescreens, but I've never been more convinced about what the Colts were doing before a draft than I am now. We knew they would draft Luck and Nelson, and this seems like one of those times where we can bank on them trading back at #15. It already felt that way, and Ballard flat out said it today (even if maybe he was teasing, he's done that before, and wound up trading back just like he said he would).

Yes. I feel like we’ve agreed on this for at least a month now. It all makes too much sense for us to trade back (note: I’m not saying I agree, I’d rather hold and pick at 15).

Really feels like the Colts view this draft as having about 5-8 truly elite players and then it drops off.
