Good incentive deal. He's good when he is actually on the field.
We still need another safety not named Thomas out there.
I would agree. It’s crazy how things can turn. If we managed to land Diggs or Simmons, we’d go from one of the worst to the best safety groups in the league.
Two solid starters. & Cross + Thomas would be a great backup duo. Not necessarily starters at this point, but they can fill in well when needed.

Well - it only makes sense for Ballard to double down on the FA market now for CB/S or both safety spots.

This has been an interesting FA. First 2-3 days were wild. However, it’s been the slowest week 2 FA across the league that I can remember.

Justin Simmons baby!!! 😉
If we aren’t resigning Blackmon, I see no way we don’t sign Simmons or Diggs. We were weak there last year. Blackmon was the only bright spot.
Not sure if Gilmore would be interested in returning, BUT that could make sense if he wants to mentor the young guys. Curious on how he graded out last year

So......it looks like we might end up with the best corner in free agency without giving up one of our premium picks this year.
Our secondary would have some serious potential with Brents having a full off season and Kenny coming back.
This is a big addition, if true.
Ballard could also recoup that 3rd on draft day pretty easily by moving down from 15. Maybe even pick up an extra 2 instead
After this, he should create some more space and bring in Justin Simmons.
Exactly. The next moves have to be signing a safety & depth on the OLINE

TBH I don't even feel like CB is a big need, but if we can fortify it more I'm down.
Whether that be Sneed, another vet or a draft pick
You can never tell with this scheme. Any corner would look bad if we continue to play with a 10 yard cushion.
Sneed would be a huge upgrade regardless. Still doesn’t address our glaring hole at safety
-
I’ve refreshed so many times hoping for this Sneed trade or a Safety signing - I’m worn out. lol

I can’t imagine giving up $35 million by not playing one more year when you are still arguable the best defensive player in the game.
Happy for him & his family tho -
O/U 1 on signings today?

It will be for a 3rd rounder tops
Likely a 4th and conditional 2025 5th(4th) or something.
We’ll see. I imagine it’ll take at least 2nd. We’re competing with a few teams according to reports. I’d be ecstatic with a 3rd or 4th rounder for him even if we do have to pay him

Not sure if he was a Ballard target, but CB Kendall Fuller signed a 2 year 16.5 mil contract with the Dolphins
That is a very reasonable contract. But if Ballard is trying to get Sneed, it’s a moot point. He might think our young guys are going to take that next step this year too. Can’t rule out our guys being very good year 2

I’m personally not too worried YET. I’ll give it a few more days.
Surely, Ballard is going to sign a good safety. Then, I predict he swings a trade for an offensive weapon or defensive player. He likes the trades. Then, he’ll take the offensive weapon or CB/Safety we need come draft time.

Kamren Curl, Blackmon, or Simmons need to be signed. I just don’t see how one is not. It’s a clear necessity for our team.

So how does work though? The guaranteed part only counts against the cap? How do you count the incentive part? It's added to next season?
That’s what I’ve been asking to… if the incentives hit, do they go against the following year’s cap??

I had honestly forgotten he was suspended. I was just glad he was gone. Honestly I forgot he was here last year until I saw he got picked up and then went glad he won’t be here this year.
This kind of makes me nervous as to what will come out about the Colts (if it’s true & serious). Our team needs a break from bad press for 2-3 years lol

Needed a good backup. But i hate paying for them. Curious how much the cap hit.
anybody know how the cap hit works if it’s UP to “X” amount but the base is much lower?

$7m for a backup? Seems steep..
Apparently we’re trading Buckner for Sneed
-
Interesting signing. We clearly needed depth at DT. But, with Buckner & Grover signed, a lot invested there. Assume we are done making moves on the DLINE now.

I don't buy that, not even a little bit.
Neither site has anything updated yet, once that happens we will know for sure.
That’s just what he said. Take it for what it is.

Most likely you are. Lol.
He will probably get about $3-$4m extra against the cap this season.
Kevin Bowen said it would go in effect after the 2024 season

Jeremy Chinn is a pretty versatile player that could take Blackmon place. Probably wouldn’t cost much. Then go sign sneed.
The dream would be to sign both Blackmon & Gardner Johnson

I think bringing Snead in would give us an upgrade at the position and someone that would help with the development of Brents and Jones with his experience. Snead, Brents, and Moore as starting CBs with Flowers and Jones backing them up is a pretty good room IMO.
Sneed would have a contract that would likely not expire until they become free agents. Development wouldn’t matter much at that point.
With Kenny re-signing, I don’t see any way we trade for Sneed.
Fuller, Nelson, Gilmore, etc on a 1 year deal might make the most sense now to mentor the young guys.

The way things are going...
It's looking like the Colts will have their cap spent, and we will be fielding nearly the exact same team as last year.
Gardner Johnson
Josh Uche
Kyle Fuller
Curtis Samuel/Marquise Brown
Two of these & I’ll be happy
What is Chris Ballard MOST LIKELY to do in the 1st Round of the 2024 NFL Draft?

I would say the odds we trade back out of the first round are zero.
He just mentioned that they have 19-21 players with first round grades. We are guaranteed to get one of them where we pick. There are probably 10-12 BLUE chip prospects. We are lucky as many teams need a QB & OLINE ahead of us. We’ll have a ton of options at 15.
