Sure they do!  It's not about saying something with a name attached to it, it's about throwing shade on a player in hopes they drop in the draft.  They don't lie because they don't want their name attached to it (which they wouldn't care anyway by the way), it's about misinformation.  Nothing to do about anonymity.  This time of year didn't become known as lying season because sources were anonymous...

We're just going to have to agree to disagree.  I think they have every reason to lie.

    Oh brother.

Just an "effect".. Ok lol. And you didn't answer the question about how JB would look with all new starters along the OL, RB, WR, and TE... How many times did we listen to people saying JB just needed good WRs, while still having a top 5 OL, top 10 running game, and two of the better TEs in the league. We even had to listen to some blame the OL which was the hot take of the year...

Out of Love's top 3 WRs, two had zero stars (247 recruiting composite), and the only one to have any stars was the transfer from Utah who couldn't manage to start in 4 years... One of his top 3 WRs ran a 4.96 40 time (Nathan) lol.... Another, Thompkins, ran a 4.71 lol... Both are horribly slow for a WR. And both were small as hell (5-7, and 5-8)... An "effect" lol... Pascal, our slowest WR runs a 4.55.... That alone is huge, and that doesn't even begin to weight the OL, RB, D, coaches, scheme, etc..

Thanks for point out effect, I hate when don't spell check.

I did answer your question, I said it was one of the reasons.  Starting with an entire new team probably had as much to do with his poor numbers and being asked to be a QB and read the defense pre snap, make a change at the line and then go through his progressions after the snap rather than having the WR determined before the snap as happens most time in the air raid system that he played in the year before.

So to summarize, in 2018 he out up good numbers and played well because he was a good QB it had nothing to do with his receivers bailing him out on numerous plays or an offensive system that gives college QBs huge numbers.

But in 2019 he put up poor numbers and didn't play well because of the offensive system and his receivers weren't talented enough to bail him out on numerous plays.  And oh yeah, in 2019 he had a much better running game in 2019 so you think that would have taken some of the pressure off him but he still put up poor numbers.  But like most people who want Love because someone made the comparison to Patrick Mahomes, the blame for his poor play falls on everyone but Love, while his 2018 is ALL because of Love, because that makes perfect sense.

He's still one of the best young linemen in the league

It's fine that you think that, but there are not many people who would agree.

he may have the potential to be, but he has not shown or reached that potential yet.... not even close to it actually.

I can go find you the article from the fan that was up with quotes if you would like. It’s very clear what they want in a QB. They have both said the ability to extend plays.

You don't have to find it, he just talked about it yesterday at the combine.

    https://www.colts.com/news/frank-reich-takeaways-2020-nfl-scouting-combine-draft

Starting at about 7:35 in the video.  5 things he looks for

Toughness - mental and physical toughness

Accelerated Vision - How fast do you think on your feet

    Accuracy

Good feet - Most sports are played from the ground up.

last thing - the intangibles, the leadership, are you the playmaker in the big moment.

I don’t think teams are going to give Love a lower grade because of the competition  he faced. His grade will be on his traits.

Competition level plays a part in the evaluation, especially when you see someone who, when playing against a power 5 conference teem has 4 TDs, 7 INTs throughout a career.

Also, if they just based things on "traits" then you would see more Div II kids get drafted higher.

We have the money to go after him and Hunter Henry if we wish to. It opens up the offense considerably. Frank used 3 TE formations a lot with the Eagles and in 2018 as well, it reduced a bit in 2019 but we can give him the versatility again, and it would be money well spent. Besides, the best friends for a rookie QB is a running game and TEs, so we will have those in place for the next QB as well.

The only place where TEs go to die is in an Arians' offense. :)

Or having Brissett as the QB. :hide:

Ballard and Reich have been asked many times what they are looking for in a QB. So no we do know what they are looking for. This is what they have said.

    Mental toughness

    accuracy

ability to make plays with their feet

    fast processing speed

That is not what Reich said, he said good feet, stated the game is played from the ground up, so what that means is good mechanics not the ability to run.

For example, Manning had great feet but was not a running threat.  Many people knocked Manning for his "happy feet" but he used it to keep time with his receivers.

He did, later on when someone asked about a "running type" Qb he said that they don't want to be a copy cat but they do look at the newer styles and try to incorporate that into what they want to do.

I just listened to Loves entire presser. He was really impressive. Submerges himself in football and has a ton of confidence. Yet he is humble enough to talk about what he needs to improve.

Jacoby Brissett says the same thing.

He said breaking down his interceptions for teams was easy because he had already watched them a bunch of times. All the combine interviews are up on nfl.com.

That must be why he's so good at throwing them.

Eason couldn’t even really come up with anything he needs to improve on.  Wasn’t as impressed with him. I do think the poor work ethic rumor against him seems to be false from how he talked.

I think Eason is a Jeff George clone.

Well I did watch Turay and along with Houston, they applied a lot of pressure on Mahomes to get him off his spot.

Chiefs were missing their starting LT, Fisher, that game.  Schwartz is a good RT but Turray typically lines up on the defensive right side, so no he wasn't going against a top tier tackle most of the time in that game.

Plus, like Dungy was fond of saying, the most important ability is availability and Turray has not shown that ability yet.

I have no problem discussing his 2018 season and what made it good. And keep in mind Gordon arguably did better than Mahomes in the same system on the same team. In short, I don't discount system QBs. It's what they show within the system. Love clearly showed in 2018 that he could execute at a high level in that system (with 2 and 3 star recruits), and also showed great arm talent.

What you failed to mention, and what is most important, is:

    1. Nine new starters on O

    2. The one returning starter (OL) did not start the entire season (injury replacement)

    3. All new coaches, and new scheme.

    4. Defense took a big step back (also changed scheme)

    5. His new WRs were for the most part incredibly slow (4.6 and 4.7s)

    6. His best WR was a grad transfer from Utah who couldn't win a start in 4 years

I would expect that to have an effect, but if those changes cause him to go from looking like a really good QB to a below average QB, then I'd say he wasn't a really good QB to begin with.  And when you watch his 2018 games you see his WRs and RBs bailed him out of a lot poor throws.  He was also asked to make decisions based on his reading of the defense.  That factors in as much as working with new players.

The above is simply a lot to overcome. I've never in my life seen such turnover of absolutely every single aspect of a team. For instance, how would JB perform this year if you took every single starter off the team and replaced them with guys who never started before, plus, change coaches and schemes?

Again, I would expect it to have an effect, but I also thing his numbers looked better in 2018 than his skill level because of the type of offense that Utah State ran.

Basically, I do not think he is as bad as he looked in 2019, but unlike most people who want the Colts draft Love, I also do not think he is a s good as he looked in 2018.

  11. Frank Reich on what he looks for in a QB.

Toughness, accelerated vision(field awareness), accuracy, good feet, intangibles (leadership, playmaker in the big moments)

Also talked about leaning on the staff to stay ahead of the field and be competitive, does not want to be a copy cat but wants to look at new things and determine how they fit into what he wants to do.

Has he played yet? How has he looked?

I heard a new QB name for next year's draft the other day by Daniel Jeremiah.

North Dakota State QB Trey Lance

    https://www.espn.com/college-football/player/_/id/4383351/trey-lance

Yep that's not a typo... he threw for 28 TDs and ZERO INTs this year. He's 6'3" 220 and he's a dual threat QB. Passed for 2800 yards(9.7YPA) and rushed for 1100 yards. I have not watched game tape of him yet, just highlights, so I can't really say how much I buy his hype, but definitely looks intriguing.

He has played very sparingly.  He was going to get some more playing time and then got injured.  He's a bit inaccurate, but seems to have a strong arm, good runner.  I just think he will shine this year, nothing in his game to date, indicates 1st round talent.

    Trey Lance looks interesting.

The Panthers are aiming at Trevor Lawrence next year. Matt Rhule is an expert in rebuilding...

    Very well could be.

I think an under the radar QB that is going to shoot up draft lists next year is Dylan McCaffrey at Michigan (yes I'm biased, I'm a Michigan fan) but when you look at the the McCaffrey family, you just cannot count them out.  The biggest question will be, can he stay healthy, but if he does I think he will become a 1st round QB.
