He rejuvenated his career here. He loves this place and the fans. I would attempt to sign him for maybe a short deal. Like 3 years. We have the money and are quickly losing all of our pass catchers. Let’s not forget that just last year he had 14 total touchdowns. Guys like that don’t grow on trees.

1 yr deal or walk. Let’s see if his leaves can regrow again after they all seemed to fall off again this year. Likable guy with tons of talent but this years EE was Detroit’s EE, not the Colts 2018 guy.

as a side note, this opens up Funchess spot.

Keep in mind we’ll have to resign some guys which will eat away at some of that. I think Ballard will resign Doyle and Castonzo for sure, maybe Ebron and Funchess too. I can’t remember who else is up

I’m not real sure about EE, his salary requests will be a large factor as he hasn’t produced well in 2019, be it his hands or his QB, he hasn’t lived up to a large enough for his ego contract imho.

the first I’d agree with and Funchess is a huge question mark too. Can you resign a guy who has been broken all season and getting huge money to boot? Idk what his worth would be and can JB showcase him if he comes back to warrant another big payday? Huge questions

I would say coaching has made him look as good as he has.

I’m not as sure. Granted, he doesn’t process fast enough but still, I’m not sure the route patterns have been JB friendly. Idk, the offense is just not good and I think there is enough blame to go around here. OC, QB and the wr’s

my guess is unless we're officially out of it, no way we will see Kelly unless someone is hurt. Honestly, I'm not sure he's the answer either

I’m not sure he is but we really won’t know until he sees live play u see duress and Taylor the offense towards his strengths more as opposed to whatever they’ve done for JB.

Whenever you have a team with an average or below average QB, the back up is always the most popular guy. And usually, that only lasts until the back up gets his shot and shows why he’s the backup. I’d expect the same with Kelly.

All fair. And he may very well be trash. If we are out of contention, it’s worth a look or if we have to put in a backup, I’d try him rather than the current #2 guy.

Were not out of the playoffs yet. JB is 6 and 3. We lost on the road, to a good team, on a short week. Maybe if we lose next game.

It’s just the overall play that JB has brung to the field. Chuck and duck style. I’m shocked in his play tbh. I thought he would be better and I thought game plans would also look better. Coaching hasn’t helped JB look any better for certain.

I'm not a fan of Andrew's methods either.

Idk if JB has reached his ceiling or not. I'm willing to see if he can improve by the end of this year. If he doesn't I will personally write him off as not franchise material. He knows the playbook. He knows the team. There wasnt a lot going against his success with this team. But not being able to push it down field in certain games like when you're injured (every year?) Isnt good enough to be this franchise's QB.

As for Kelly I'd love to see what he can do. He seems to have some real talent at the QB position. I'm afraid unless this team goes 8-8 JB will also take all the snaps next year.

All fair. It would be the right thing to do in seeing how well or if it’s the same when DF, PC and TY are all on together but does the team have the luxury to see what JB does with luxury talent vs avg guys? Idk. My only question is regardless of who is in, can he scan the field or is he a 1-2 read QB?

as for Kelly, I’m afraid you’re right. Going to take a few bad outings and a dive in the standings or an “injury” to see Kelly. I’d sure like to see if Kelly has the ability to look around and be better in progressions than what JB has shown.

They did just win the division they have a passing game that atleast isn't trash ours is trash gameplan was garbage and I will get backlash for this but Brissett will never be anything more than a good backup.

I honestly think this is a 50/50 share of blame. JB isn’t going to be confused for Manning but he isn’t Ryan Leaf either. I’m not even sure who his comparable is at this point because I can’t say I recall watching another QB like this. Saying that, what coordinator is incapable of building schemes to fit their players? A really good one will adapt to what they have and this team has seen JB play enough by now to know what they have. Lack of PA pass while murdering the opposition with the run is mind boggling. Not throwing to Doyle over the short to medium range in the middle of the field was also mind boggling. Trusting that your QB is finally going to connect on a deep pass when your game is on the line near the end is just stupid when he hasn’t shown he can do it all game long. Coaching decisions are borderline terminating type offenses in this league. I just can’t understand their logic this year.

I have been a JB supporter throughout this year, but I am starting to lose faith in his abilities. The waiting for his guys to get open is a big deal, because in the NFL, if you dont throw it where your WR is going to be open, your window of opportunity is already gone by the time you see it unfold.

JB doesn't seem to have Anticipation of his WRs coming open. Everything else is at an acceptable level. His Pocket awareness is good enough. Hes hard to bring down. He brings a real definition of the term "Lazer, Rocket arm" to the table. He can scramble. Hes overall safe with the ball.

All these things dont matter if you're missing your windows of opportunity. JB doesn't trust himself to make that throw. Hes playing scared of the interception, and its hindering his progress. You gotta sling it to see the progression of the play in real time.

Frank Reich has to know this is happening. I'm not going to say JB cant get better in this area. But I'm losing faith that he can. We will know over the next year and a half. I would be fine with drafting a guy and letting him sit behind JB for a year. Theres no way Ballard is content with the level of QB play when hes constantly evaluating the roster.

Houston will always give us fits. And it's going to be interesting in a couple years with a proven run game and defense then add a better QB whoever that may be... this team is still going to be in prime position in 2 years. All last night did we tell me the Colts arent ready. The defense has some real play makers on it for once. Kenny Moore is an absolute beast. I was just discussing with my father the thought of having Freeney and Mathis on this defense. Like holy crap. Theres 2 more drafts where we can get more pass rushers. Our potential franchise QB, another stud WR and a RT (Smith needs to go back to G) If anything Ballard is showing he can stack talent. Ballard may be just using Brissett as a 2 year rental. And why not?

I have highlighted an area that feels spot on about JB and I agree with most everything you put in here. Nice post.

the one thing we may differ in is if we can agree that JB is just what he looks like at this point and his ceiling isn’t much above what we are seeing, I’d really like to just take a look at Kelly during live fire and see what, if anything at all, we have with him. You would think at the VERY LEAST, Kelly could sink and dunk equally as well as JB has with the ability to go vertical. Even if you pull the risky vertical away from Kelly and just say dunk and dunk, he gives you the speed from his feet. The possible plus side if you say go play your game, is he able to throw a guy open and can he do that safely enough without being too high risk with the ball?

im not advocating that Kelly is the answer or anything remotely like that, I’m at the point though that I feel this team is stuck in the mid with JB and we don’t go far with him, regardless if the coaches can build better plans or not because he can’t seem to anticipate his throws deep. Kelly May or may not but let’s look at the kid and either check boxes or know that he is just another qb in this league. Idk

dang you Luck for pulling out of this team like you did.

That can NEVER happen. I rather we blow a coverage underneath to another WR than to let Hopkins run down the field WIDE OPEN. Again, I don't know who that was on as it seemed Desir passed him on. Watson saw one on one coverage against Fuller and he didn't care who it was, he was taking a shot

I’m not sure about this defensive coaching staff getting guys into the best positions to succeed. There is something missing with this team. I’ve harped many of times, this coaching staff doesn’t appear to instill discipline or accountability equally across the team. Whatever Wilson has done to upset the coaching staff doesn’t seem to apply to other cb’s who don’t perform well. 3 lineman in to rush when we can’t get to anyone with 4 and they still carve you up for chunk plays? What scheme is Eberflus employing here? This team is all over the map in terms of performance from game to game.

min some fairness here, Watson is really really good and his receivers are pretty top notch as well. It’s a miracle we held them to 20 tbh.

  9. I’d agree with much of this article. I would carve out the caveat that the team has been without a legit #2,3 receiver, Ebron has been back to his norm with drops and TY has missed 3 games plus he wasn’t right in this game and you were missing Mack, although Williams filled in pretty nicely.

This team is missing more than play from the QB, and he looks very one dimensional. While being a solid caretaker of the football, he has zero vision past his first and limited times, maybe a second one. I am completely surprised he has looked as pedestrian as he has so far as a starter this year. He couldn’t throw a guy open if his mother’s life was on the line, he is that bad at anticipation. Kelly may be no better but we’ve seen his arm, we’ve seen his legs, and if he has the “mental” side right, he has many pluses in his game.

I think we can pretty much rule out JB as the future in what we’ve all seen so far this year. We know that his back up journeyman guy is bad but we’ve not seen Kelly fire live bullets yet. I honestly think this is the stretch to see if Kelly has enough to allow the Colts to avoid needing to trade up draft capital and focus on either a RT, WR, or pass rusher from any spot along the line because yuk, we have both little rush nor do we have the DC who shows creativity with what he has. Those 3 man rush attempts were borderline criminal while the opposing QB sat at his table, cut up his steak and then threw the ball to about anyone he wanted.

The team is not in complete synch and it smells just a tad better than a Pagano led team.https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2863797-jacoby-brissett-holding-back-colts-is-present-future-problem-for-indianapolis

Season is far from over. Texans still have pats and two games vs Titans. But the AFC south is gonna be a mess..

Agree. I’m just not sure we have the QB to get us there, the coaching lacks something and the players are being made soft. They certainly are hard to enjoy week to week.

Now wait a minute 71 had his hands on our rusher the exact same way that Glowinski did earlier and got flagged, but no flag there???? C’mon now what is it with this officiating????

This is one thing that makes this game (NFL) is just getting hard to watch. One time it’s a foul, next time it isn’t. I just don’t understand. The product is becoming hot pile of crap.

  12. In my opinion, this is one of the leaches of society. Spoiled kid who grew up thinking he was owed something. He had promise initially and the. Was figured out by the league and became irrelevant. He took that as he was being discriminated against and took it upon himself to inject politics into the game. He is a leach, a false prophet looking to gain profits for himself. He is a millionaire, let him go work on social issues with those dollars, leave football out of it.
