  1. Why does everyone want to rag on Eberflus? Or Reich for that manner? Put them in a time machine and ship them back to 2000 or so, and we're sitting on more rings than the Patriots...We wasted the entire Manning/Luck era on coaches who played not to lose...we go 4-12 at best with Mora, Dungy, Caldwell, or Pagano this year

I know... not gonna happen, but...

Let's say for the argument of this post... that would come true... we simply couldn't avoid being picked for the NFL Hard Knocks 2020.

We already are in the conversation as we didn't make the playoffs and don't have a first year HC.

What other story could knock the return of luck off the board?

In general, I don't think the Colts will be on the show 2020 as we are too boring to watch, but I would love it.

    How about you guys?

Unless they recently changed it, i think you have to miss the playoffs 2 years in a row to go into the list of teams that can be forced...Technically we could volunteer, but i don't see that happening

  3. A lot of Reich hate in this thread...25 other head coaches in the league would be 2-7 or worse with this roster...that said, he needed to step up and say "Brian, if you throw one more fade in the end zone, you're unemployed tomorrow...you suck at all touch throws and that's not what this offense is built on"

Plus, i've been slow to take on this opinion, but Vinny is done...even the kicks he makes are sidewinders that clearly aren't struck like an NFL kicker, like he's a golfer punching out of the trees...I'd take Carly Lloyd happily right now

Colts dont make me miserable. If anything bothers me its the ignorant naive homers that cant see whats gping on.

I'm sorry to tell you, but the fans that want to throw crazy money at free agents during the time that above average players are getting paid like elite players are the ignorant naive ones...

To sell a free agent, you're using money, location, playing time, chance to win...With top level free agents, i think we can agree playing time is a wash across all franchises...I love Indy personally, but selling a free agent on living here as opposed to say Florida isn't exactly easy

So let's isolate the Norwell signing...Our pitch is "come to a team that went 4-12 last year instead of a team that went the AFC Championship game last year.  The weather and the night life sucks compared to other NFL cities, but that's ok, because we have a QB that hasn't thrown a football in over a  year. And sure we have a state income tax,(how's that for being a homer?)

Bottom line, to get Norwell at equal money, we have to pay 15-16 million a year for a non-premium position to a player that's had exactly one above average season...And that's if we get him to ignore all the other factors...

  5. If we can all accept that if EVERYTHING breaks right for us next year (solid free agent signings, good draft, good health) then 10-6 and a blowout loss to the Pats or Steelers in the divisional round next year is our ceiling (i know nobody will accept that, but it's true), then the Bills 1st round pick NEXT year should be our primary goal in a trade...

I'd take 21, one of their 2nd's and their 3rd with their 1st next year in a heartbeat...anything on top is just gravy.  Think about it, they've gotta trot either Nathan Peterman or a rookie QB out there with a depleted roster next year, and bam, we're right back in the top 5 next year with our own pick to boot...But nobody wants to think of this rebuild as a multi-year project, so we keep hearing things like "can't trade back farther than 6, we need an elite player" or "we have to get their first 5 picks in this deep (???) draft"

Now if they sign an A.J. McCarron or Sam Bradford or some decent bridge option, my opinion might change, but i'm looking at teams that allow us to add quantity more than quality this year, and quality more than quantity next year.  But high picks in 2019 need to be part of any package in my opinion, even at the expense of an extra pick or 2 this year

  6. He would have to pass a physical for a trade to go through, so i only see 2 possible outcomes...he's healthy, in which case we wouldn't take 10 first round picks for him...or he's damaged goods, in which case a team wouldn't give up 10 dollars for him...There's no reason for the words "Andrew Luck" and "trade" to ever appear in the same sentence by a competent human being ever again

Dumpster fire is kind of an insult to dumpster fires, don't you think? I would trade Ballard, Pagano (not that it helps trade value), Luck, our next 10 first round picks for either a decent strength and conditioning staff or scouts that don't seek out players made of glass...

  9. I've been neither a Pagano supporter nor hater up till now, but that timeout sent me straight into hater mode.  I don't care about calling a timeout before the play, just let the play clock run down.  If I on several beers immediately know that calling your 2nd timeout inside of 1:20 left to go concedes you're on your last possession and would be best off leaving as little time on the clock as possible (particularly with the state of the banged up secondary), then I think it's fair to expect someone who's making millions a year to make those decisions to know the same thing.  Maybe he was channeling his inner Caldwell.  After all, Caldwell's corpse was in the stadium, his spirit could've been flying around possessing Pagano

  10. Well to satisfy the point of the thread, if I had to keep one, I guess I'd keep Pagano.

However, unless one of the two has long term job security, we really handcuff ourselves with top candidates if we don't clean house.  A new GM is always gonna want to pick his own coach, so if we take that ability away, the top guys (who for some unknown reason turn down opportunities every year anyway) probably balk.

If we go the other way, Grigson's now very public meddling aside, the same issue comes up.  GM on a short leash, possibly fired after one year of the new coach's reign, new GM comes in and wants his own guy.  You'd have to guarantee the new coach a lot of input into the next GM for that to work, and without that, again the top candidates probably balk.

  11. There's no reason to keep Pagano while getting rid of Grigson.  Unless we're signing him to a long term extension and giving him the organizational control to pick his own personnel guy.  Any new GM is gonna want to pick his own coach, and Pagano would be gone within a year anyway

  12. The only problem I have with this draft is that it's the polar opposite approach that we took in free agency.  The consensus seems to be we took players that could outplay their draft position, but didn't fill an immediate need.  Why sign a bunch of veterans with a win now mentality, then draft guys that will barely see the field this year if those signings work out, especially when there were players on the board that could have filled significant needs for this upcoming year.  Don't get me wrong, I think we're farther away than an AFC Championship game appearance would suggest, and I prefer the draft strategy we used over the free agency strategy, but at least be consistent.  Are we going for it this year or not?
