The problem today is the game is over officiated. The refs don’t “let them play” like they used to. I get that part of it is for player safety. But they have ALL gotten so flag happy it’s just taking the fun out of it. This is across the NFL, not just me bagging on today’s refs in the game. We have seen some really bad calls the past few seasons with regularity. Add in the fact they STILL can’t determine what a “catch” is half the time, and yeah. It’s a lot worse than it used to be. We got hosed today on some calls, yes. We benefitted from some as well too. Overall the balance seemed to favor the Steelers but it was just bad all around. The league needs to address it as a whole. Make them full time for God's sake! It’s a multi billion dollar empire and we still have part time accountants and lawyers calling games. When tennis can use lasers, the NFL still uses sticks and chains to measure down and distance.

I haven’t had time to scroll the litany of posts here but I think it is 95% mental. The “yips” in golf terms. Dude is missing kicks a high schooler could make, not 50 yarders that are landing short: My old boss was at the game in Nashville and said he was drilling 55 yarders with room to spare in warmups. I know that’s not a game situation but it leads me to believe this may be a mental thing, originally brought on by something physical (remember he had an issue in camp) and it’s screwing with him. If it were a legit injury issue the Colts would have brought in a guy or two as insurance. Since they don’t look to be doing that, they’re banking on this being a slump Adam can work out of. They’re publicly backing him to boost his confidence IMO, and give him a shot at pulling it together until season’s end. It may work, it may not...I’m hopeful it does and he wins us a game or two this year. Bc with Jacoby at the helm this isn’t a “blow your doors off” offense. It’s more ground game, grind it out, physical football that can lead to close finishes like these past two weeks. Adam needs to get right....I’m praying when it’s his first time kicking next Sunday, the crowd goes nuts in support....but also fear booing from the *

Sorry if this has been posted and feel free to merge....I've been off the boards for some time bc of personal reasons (nothing bad).
But how did Patrick Robinson go from being terrible with us to an All-Pro level player with the Eagles?? Scheme? Lack of pass rush leading him to cover longer? I seem to remember him getting burnt a lot in 2016. Now he's a shutdown corner.
Side note, not that I care too much but Dorsett and Allen have a good shot at getting rings, and while Dorsett hasn't done a lot in NE, he did make a huge play in the Jags game.
For Robinson, is it the Jerry Hughes effect, just didn't fit? Or injuries and being forced to cover too long....

At THIS TIME.....it looks like the Colts got the better end of the deals....Dorsett and Allen aren't doing anything now...and we'd likely, no we WOULD be winless without Brissett. Plus we got an extra pick in the 4th round next year, which is important to a team trying to rebuild on the fly.
Now this could all change, but as I see it now, the Colts are getting the better results, from especially the Brissett/Dorsett trade.

Funny thread. Most of the playoff losses during that era were the fault of the offense and its inability to perform like it did in the regular season. Some like 2005 were a victim of circumstance...Dungy's son passing away screwed up that team more than they'll ever admit, had they squeaked it out they probably right the ship and cruise to a SB win. 2007 was an injury nightmare, Sanders couldn't have helped that much and he was healthy that year. 2008, ugh. 12-4 having to play 8-8 on the road. I still hate it. But again, it was on the offense mostly, a missed 3rd and 2 block resulted Peyton getting sacked and giving the ball back to SD. Realisically, 2009 maybe he makes a diffrerence in the Super Bowl.

Yeah, bc he had such great teams to work with....He coached Northwestern when they were the perennial doormats of the old Big Ten. He also took over as interim coach for one of the worst Indy Colts teams ever, the 1991 team...and was interim for the then dreadful Saints. All the coaching talent in the world wasn't gonna help him in any of those terrible jobs.
At his age he's done coaching, but dang I'd love to see him come in as a consultant like Tom Moore has done. He knows his stuff, calls out what should be done prior to games (which usually isn't by this coaching staff) and knows the game backwards and forwards. I'm thinking he and Irsay aren't exactly in the best terms perhaps, given his rough stint here in Indy,.,,

Today is the first day since the Pats game with the wacky fake punt that we're getting roasted as badly as we are today by the national media. From the margin of loss to a "bad" team, to mostly Pagano saying 49ers.....It's bad. I'd prefer to be unnoticed to this. The past two seasons (save for Pat's punt call) we have been just that. But now we're getting into Browns territory. Hopefully we can somehow win next week and quiet everyone down...
And yes I know this is "overreaction Monday" so that's part of it, especially after week 1. Heck the Jags are leading the South. Everything is still on the table. But the optics of Pagano saying 49ers, combined with the non challenge, etc...It's a bad look for the organization. Add in the mess with Grigson, Deflategate, Luck's injury and the silence around it, the bad record since 2015, and we've fallen quite far from beating Denver and going to the 2014 AFCC

Bring him back on an incentive laden, cap friendly deal to mentor the young guys. He's still got a little left in the tank, though this is probably unlikely since the Colts cut Adams

The only local media I trust even remotely is JMV. He has some really good sources over at 56th and gets it right more than wrong....he called Manning's neck issue in 2011 weeks before any other local reporter, same when the cut/divorce came in 2012. Same again with Sean Payton and now Manning and Gruden. And he's as neutral as possible, IMO. I'd trust him over anyone locally.

Back to Mike Florio for a minute...that guy is a thin-skinned little weasel who doesn't even try to hide his hate for the Colts. I've tried to defend the Colts in the comment sections in the past and had every comment deleted. Nothing inflammatory, just counter arguments....I gave up a long time ago until today. He had an article clowning Pagano for calling Luck the "best QB in the NFL." While I don't agree with that statement, what was Pagano supposed to say? And to that point, Luck is ONE of the best IMO, especially given his supporting cast. So I broke protocol and went to the comment section. Mostly garbage, Luck sucks, he's not even top 10, etc etc. Anyone defending him was voted down immensely. And I, still being in a chippy mood, decided to chime in. I changed my username and put up a comment with Luck's stat line from this season (a pretty good one TBH) and said he did it behind a pretty bad o-line. It was deleted within an hour....God Florio and his staff are petty. They must log IP addresses or something, bc I used an entirely different email and innocuous username. Yet he lets east coast Pats fans and others dump all over Irsay (drug addict comments galore) and the Colts. I'm done for good with that garbage fire of a website.

IF, and it's a big if, Manning comes on as GM.....I'd think Indy would become a VERY interesting place for potential head coaches to want to come. He is very highly respected throughout the league for his football IQ. I would think coaches would be lining up to work with him. Just my thought.

And dominated the Packers for most of the game, and blew the doors off Minnesota and the Jets. This team was a riddle all year. I think, had they snuck in somehow they win at least the wildcard round. Probably nothing beyond that.

I seem to remember some pretty terrible Jags teams giving the best Manning era teams fits. A win is a win. It may cost us a few draft spots, but it ain't like we lost the #1 overall pick. And I doubt it changes Irsay's mind either. It was nice to see Mathis get one last strip sack/fumble too. And those who attended got to see a win. 8-8 isn't great but it means still only 2 losing seasons since 1999. Nothing to brag about but it's something....

I may be wrong...but I think the current turf came over from the RCA Dome. It was installed in 2005 if I recall. Even if new turf was installed when LOS was built....it's over 8 years old. And there have been big advancements in field turf since then. Different fills (pellets), "grasses", pads, etc.
And if they're using the same turf at West 56th, that would make sense in terms of being so injury plagued as a team...
Who really knows? But I'd want the best surface for me team if I were an owner

It has been thrown around on here that LOS has some of the worst turf of any stadium in the NFL....despite 5 year old surveys. It's old, hard, and needs to be replaced IMO. T.Y. hurt himself on it during the Steelers game....it wasn't the big hit he took, he said in his own words it was landing on the turf.

Here's a unique comparison.....
The Indianapolis 500 is run every Memorial Day weekend. It is run whether it's 100 degrees out or 55. There is a minimum safe temperature for the safety of the race, around 50 degrees ambient temp...so the tires will have grip. On race day, 300,000 fans pack the place. If it's hot, lots end up at the first aid stations with heat related issues. But they still come. The racing is also affected by temperature. Hotter means less grip on the track and affects race strategy. Same goes for cooler days. In 1992 it was barely 50 degrees and the race was marred with lots of crashes bc of the cold (tires couldn't heat up to get grip) They won't run in the rain, but as soon as it dries the cars are back out there. And on road courses they do run in the rain.
My point is this. The 500 has been run for over 100 years. They don't have a "window" of acceptable weather except for the minimum temperature for the drivers' safety. It can be hot as Hades and they'll run. The fans know it too. Lots of people ignore the warnings and end up in the hospital (drinking and heat don't mix). But the show goes on. Only a downpour will stop it....and that's bc racing at 230 mph is a bit different than football.
Cold is part of football. Always has been, always will be.

I’ve been to many RCA Dome games, including playoffs. That place was LOUD. But it was the design. Smallest stadium in the NFL at the time, domed teflon roof that pushed the noise back down onto the field....(no pumped in noise like national * like to claim). Been to LOS every season since it opened. It’s much more cavernous, a much bigger space for the noise to dissipate. But it got loud, especially in the late Manning years. That Pats game in 2009? Bonkers. The big games in the Luck era were also loud too.
But the past few seasons I have noticed more and more opposing fans. Today there was an audible cheer when the Jags scored a TD. Never heard that before. And yes the lower sections have a lot of “sit down, you’re blocking my view” types. That is crap. The 600s are generally more rowdy bc, and I’m painting with a broad brush here....those are the more “blue collar” fans who can’t afford the expensive seats. That includes me. I’ve sat down low a few times but with our budget its mostly up high when we go. I had a boss that had club seats in the 100s and it was ridiculous how people acted like it was the Masters....
I’ll say what others have said. Manning retiring hurt a bit, then the 8-8 seasons chipped away a little more, then Luck retiring has made the situation worse. And the home losses hurt too. Also, yes the music needs to improve. 10-15 year old rap songs, Jack and Dianne, etc....that isn’t cutting it.
We CAN be intimidating in terms of noise, but we’ll never be Philly or Baltimore in terms of being total jerks to opposing fans. I’m fine with that. Just be LOUDER!
