  1. Why hasnt anyone thought of the fact we could be the ones getting a "high draft pick" and Irsay opening his check book is to pay out bonus already earned..I am not sure who we would have that would get us a decent pick...Playing Devils advocate here....

  2. I know the first time a player people have heard of there are all sorts of posts thinking we should pick them up. With that said..... Why not pick up Merriman cheap and help teach the 3-4 to some young players. He has/had talent.

It could be worth a minimum salary. Kind of like Donnie Avery..

Worse case you cut him during the last round of cuts...ala Tommy Harris..

  3. Everyone wanting a Comp pick for Freeney after we let him walk forgets that there is a crazy formula for how high of a pick we would get. If Freeney doesnt put up any kind of numbers we get at most a 6th round pick. That is unless we sign/Draft someone to take his spot. I think we got a 5th for Clint Session...

Also keep in mind that we got a 2nd and 5th for a 26 year old ( I think ) Running Back who was in his prime. No way we would get anything higher than a 4th round pick...

My hope is that Freeney takes to the new position and dominates and signs a resonable 3 year contract at some point.

  4. Freeney is a Tampa 2 DE...If we can get something for him now why not? If he is hurt or useless in the 3-4 hybrid Defense the Colts just spent 19mil for a one year trial. Nobody knows how Freeney will do in the new D. I like Freeney and I am thankful for all he has done for Indy. He is 32 has 2 or 3 years at most left. He gets hurt rushing from the end. Now we are going to have him standup in space? Only reason Irsay said we arent trading him is because nobody did trade for him. He is trying to save face.

  5. Wasnt Mel Kiper wanting Ryan Leaf? I remember him saying something about Manning and he said "who is Mel Kiper is he a kicker?"

I think RG3 would be a great pick for the Colts...Why not bait Redskins into giving up something to get ahead of us. I worry about a player that has so much hype. Luck has been anoited the second coming of Manning....Like Matt Barkley is now for next year..There is always one QB that is the best since ???? Remeber Drew Henson....

  6. Manning wasn't the consensus 1st overall pick in 98. There were alot,I mean alot of people on the Ryan Leaf bus....to go #1...

What if we listened to Kiper and we drafted Leaf...We still would have drafted James in 99 but after that it would have been very ugly...

A bigger what if is "What if " we are offered a saint type trade deal we turn it down and it turns out people with the "Suck for Luck" signs had it backward..

I worry when a QB has this much hype I have flashback of Todd Maranovich or to some extent Tony Mandorich ( even though he was serviceable for us )

  7. Here you go, I am saving you the trouble of searching for this information:

Historical first round QBs taken by the Colts:

1998 Peyton Manning (1st overall pick)

    1990 Jeff George (1)

    1983 John Elway (1)

    1982 Art Schlichter (4)

    1973 Bert Jones (2)

Historical middle round QBs (2nd round - #160 overall) taken by the Colts:

    1988 Chris Chandler 3rd round (76)

    1986 Jack Trudeau 2nd round (47)

    1982 Mike Pagel 4th round (84)

    1976 Mike Kirkland 5th round (143)

    1971 Karl Douglas 3rd round (78)

Historical bottom rounds QBs ( #160 overall and up) taken by the Colts:

    2009 Curtis Painter 6th round (201)

    2004 Jim Sorgi 6th round (193)

    1996 Mike Cawley 6th round (205)

    1990 Gene Benhart 13th round (311)

    1989 Wayne Johnson 11th round (296)

    1989 Steve Taylor 12th round (323)

    1983 Jim Bob Taylor 11th round (280)

    1975 Steve Joachim 7th round (160)

    1975 Bill Malouf 16th round (392)

    1974 Bob Bobrowski 12th round (307)

    1973 Tom Pierantozzi 13th round (322)

    1972 Van Brownson 8th round (204)

    1972 Gary Wichard 16th round (412)

    1970 Gordon Slade 7th round (174)

    1969 Sam Havrilak 8th round (207)

    1969 Larry Good 9th round (232)

    1968 Jeff Beaver 15th round (404)

In which of the three categories do you think are the most successful QBs?

I agree the Colts havent had the best of Luck ( pun intended ) but what about over the entire league? Hasnt there been more non first round QB's take there team to the Superbowl?

Off the top of my head Drew Brees was a 2nd..Brady was a 6th....Jake Delhome was undrafted.....Kurt Warner was undrafted.

I know the chances in finding one of those guys is really small

What if we take Luck and there is a deal on the table for a kings ransom in picks...Just like everyone felt when we didnt take the Ricky Williams/Saints trade..We could have traded up to take Edge and still walked away with picks....

I think we would be ok trading the pick. Getting by with Peyton/Dan O untill we groom a young QB.

  8. If we cut Manning ( I hope not BTW )

Why not trade the #1 to someone who is more in love with Luck or RG3 for a boat load of picks...

Pick a QB in the later rounds..Sure they may/maynot be as good as Luck or RG3...Or perhaps we can get by with a middle of the road QB because we have a heck of a running game with the likes of Trent Richardson and Dan O until the rookie QB is up to speed...

Everyone assumes that Luck is the second coming of Manning .....What if he isnt?

  9. If anything all this Luck/RG3 talk has made pick #2 more valuable than the first pick.

My Logic...If a team needs a QB really bad why trade to the #1? They could just trade to the #2 pick and grab who ever the #1 pick isnt. If a team has the QBs rated close you wouldnt have to give up as much to get to the #2...The only way our pick is super valuable is if we hype the heck out of Luck get a team to go all crazy ala Saints-Ricky Williams...

If the colts have 5 players on their Top 5 and we trade back to 5 get our player and a cornucopia of picks for the future it seems like a win/win...Think about it..This year there is a pretty good talent at the top 5...

Luck wont take us back to the superbowl next year...Manning was 3-13 his first year and thats a 6'5 lazer rocket arm Manning....

  10. What I find odd is that until we hired a GM we never heard the RG3 name from Irsay. The new GM is trying to tell the league that if you love Luck or RG3 you have to start to deal with us. If that is the case GM must be thinking Manning is coming back. If not we can pick up a QB later in the draft and get thru the season with Orlasky and a rookie in training.

Am I the only person worried about all the "Luck is the best in years " stuff? ....All this hype.... The combine if he competes will show a little more...

Also let me point out that the kind of QB our GM had year was Vick.. RG3 is being compared to Vick....
