  1. Well of course, but what you stated earlier is essentially revisionist history. Brady did not ride the coattails of a stellar defense to three Super Bowl titles. Generally speaking, that doesn't happen. Ever. A team may win one on the strength of its defense, but any team winning four in three years is bringing it on both sides of the ball. Any other take on that is either disingenuous or misinformed.

i am not saying he was terrible. I would rate the pats offense then a c+ maybe b- on a good day. it is fair to say the patriots would not have won those sbs with an avg d tho. i think if bledsoe was there he wouldve won 3 too

  2. Do you think Michael Sam is the first gay player to be in the NFL? Do you think this will be the first time a player's teammates know he's gay?

You make a valid point in bold. Everything else is pretty naive.

I think that it would be ridiculous, in theory, to expect someone as part of their job to be subjected to being made feel uncomfortable sharing a lockerroom daily with a known homosexual. I think there are definitley people who will not feel comfortable with that, and I honestly think they have a fair claim. period.

  3. They would have had more of a chance to compete with Talib on the field. Brady was throwing to Matthew Slater, a special teamer and Austin Collie who played all but three games for the Pats up to that point. Those were his biggest misses. He still completed 63 percent of his passes for just under 300 yards and had 2 TDs with no picks. He for sure needed to do more which he might have been able to do if the ToP was not 35 to 24 because the Pats D could not get Manning off the field.

he had 1 passing td and lots of yard during prevent d game over time. he had one rushing td. he did poorly for playoff sb champion brady

  4. Or perhaps you have a much deeper issue concerning a persons sexuality......

that is the problem with society. I cannot voice my opinion that is completely valid, because I will be made to feel like a gay-basher.

It is completely unfair of you to insinuate that from what Ive said.

  5. A couple for sure but the tide of the game changed when Talib went down. The Pats D just had no answer for D. Thomas from that point on and never got the Denver O off the field which limited Brady's possessions. For sure he could have played better but when you are facing one of the best offenses of all time you need your best corner to have a chance.

talib was not going to do so much for the patriots that they had a chance to win with brady missing wide open tds.

  6. so because hes gay means hes going to be checking his teammates out in the locker room? I think not.

actually that is exactly what it means. especially considering the fact that it is pro athletes and not just average joes.

If I had to change and shower with a bunch of swim suit models... they would probably feel a little uncomfortable.

i guess it would be okay if he does that stuff in a different room, but if i owned the team it would just be too inconvenient to build another locker room for gays. I would say forget it. especially if the player was a 5th round questionable pick.

btw, there are more pass rushers in the draft then sam. you probably havent heard of them because theyre straight

  7. Ok. So then how do you explain his increase in volume stats from 2007 and beyond? Did he all of sudden morph from an Alex Smith game manager into Dan Marino?

I'm gonna let you in on a little secret... players tend to improve beyond there 3rd year in the league.

  8. You keep up bringing up First Take. I rarely if ever watch that show. I was talking about the NFL Network, ESPN and national radio as well. He was discussed a lot here on Boston radio as well.

And I am not telling anyone anything. Not sure why you are so riled up. It was just an opinion based on what happened with Manning last year and the media.

You are telling everyone things "the media as a whole" have said and according to u are currently saying. Please post one link not during the superbowl week where anyone said "he would not get past this/unable to overcome loss" because that is just flatout propaganda and misinformation. I would hardly call that "giving my opinion"

Not really sure why you think im riled up. If by riled up you mean I am pointing out that you are spreading misinformation and saying everyone is doing this, when in fact no one is doing that, and speaking for people who arent amfootball, then you will just have to get over it. welcome to reality

  9. Would love to hear your abstract reasoning for why third down efficiency is not relevant. A Qbs ability to convert third down and extend drives is paramount in my view.

Brady's career completion percentage I think is right around 63/64 which is very good. My point was that his completion percentage has not changed very much over his 13 year career with the exception of 2007 like you said when he had an all time great O to work with. So again this idea that he morphed from a game manager into one of the greatest passers is a fallacy from people who look at his volume stats only. While he did improve as a QB every year, his volume stats are what increased the most dramatically because of the talent around him.

His TD/INT ratio is actually 2.5/1 which is one of the best all time.

You cant just brush aside volume stats sorry dude. They show that the volume of work and yards he had to obtain was not very much because he was riding a great team. end of story. His completion percentage etc, while not being a good point to begin with, were not that great in the years he won anyways. about average

  10. I watch a lot of football in the off-season and the chatter was a lot longer then one or two days.

    not really

But my main point was that this season he will hear about more just like last season when the playoffs were approaching. I guess we will find out soon enough.

it is time to quit watching first take and taking their "opinions" and projecting it as an entire uniform every member of the media is wearing and telling colts fans what the entire media as a whole is doing as if youre their voice

  11. Meh, Brady has always been the same QB in my view. He just had better weapons around him from 2007 on which is why his volume stats went up so dramatically. All of the other measurables that better showcase just how good a QB is - third down efficiency, completion percentage, TD/INT ratio, etc., have always been consistent with Brady which is why is one of all the time greats.

I cant tell if this was a parody, so I will adress it.

3rd down efficiency- the most irrelevant stat to use. I have a big gripe about this stat that most dont agree with. I am not going to post it because it is very abstract, but I will say youre running low on ammo when you have to use 3rd down efficiency to defend a qb

completion percentage- his completion percentage was waay up in 07 other than that it has been okay. Matt Schaub has a higher career completion percentage...not exactly a stat of his you look at and think "my god"

td/int ratio... if you think this has been consistent his whole career you may want to brush up on what a ratio is. His td/int ratio has spiked dramatically at times. 1.5/1 2001, 5/1 2007, 2/1 2009, 9/1 2010, and recently 2.5/1. His median td/int ratio is about 2/1 which is average at best.

  12. Not sure what your beef is with me but you have commented a few times now on my posts insinuating some type of hypocrisy and then running to bring Brady into the convo.

To clarify, I think Manning will have to talk about the SB all season long because the media is not going to let it go. The way it didn't let his loss to the Ravens go last year. They were brutal toward him as the post-season approached about his post-season short comings and the one and done's. To Manning's credit, he dealt with them professionally and answered their repeated questions about how he was focusing on the season at hand. I think right now Manning may be the most criticized athlete second only to Lebron but Lebron quieted his critics by winning the last two championships. I am not sure Manning can really win with the media no matter what he does. He beat the Chargers when many picked him to go one and done again and then be beat his main nemesis in Brady and they brushed by that and said he HAD to win the SB and when his team got dominated they began the talk again about his post-season short-comings. And while I think Manning will take the media in stride this season, I question his team being able to move on and as I have said in the past, I am not a fan of Fox either so we will see how it all plays out. But history shows the SB loser has a really tough time repeating and part of that is because it is so hard to move on from a Super Bowl loss. Still, I expect Denver to get back to the post-season and make another run at it.

aside from first take maybe, no one was really saying that. I think you hear what you want.

Aside from a day or so after the super bowl, no one has said anything. Youre exxgeratting this waaaaay too much.

  13. Maybe twice. Anyone who watched that game saw the night-and-day difference when Talib went down. No one else could even come close to covering D. Thomas.

The Patriots' offense didn't play very well for 3 quarters, don't get me wrong, but their inability to stop Denver was the difference, especially in key spots. They gave up over 500 yards of offense, 7 yards/play, and allowed the Broncos to go 7/13 on 3rd downs... ball game right there.

Some decent points, but the fact of the matter is they played the greatest offense in NFL history. They were not going to hold them under 20 points. Brady was going to have to play good and put up points to win. He wasnt good enough to do that.

I would consider holding Denver to 26 points somewhat of an accomplishment. Also, with the ammount of weapons Denver had, Talib cant cover all of them. Or even one of them completely.

  14. I simply disagree when you say "years." I think they broke him in fairly slowly in 2001, but by the next season he was carrying the offense. It's not "the tuck rule and one drive," like you said... he had numerous big-game performances from 2001-2004. Including the Carolina SB (354 yards, 3 TDs). Applying the game manager label to all those years is kind of a lazy generalization. He wasn't putting up gigantic numbers but there were absolutely times that he carried them to wins, both in the regular season and playoffs.

The same can be said for most "game manager" qbs. Everyone has a great performance sometimes.

  15. Actually the poster you quoted said that she felt Manning and the Broncos would move on successfully and do well. I read the comment as that the media wouldn't let it go... not the team, or any players. I can understand taking it as a perceived slight but I don't think that's the case. Most of us Pats fans here have a healthy respect for Manning.

Please, lets just speak for ourselves. Each Patriots fan is their own entity.

I never said Amfootball said he wouldnt move on. I took "he will have to answer for this" negatively. I dont see how to take it any other way. I have never seen someone use the phrase "you will have to answer for this!" in any way shape or form to explain something not terrible or negative.

And as already explained, I feel it is highly hypocritical.

  16. It's kind of a term that's taken on a negative connotation don't you think? When I think of today's starting QBs and the term "game manager" the name that comes to mind immediately is Alex Smith. Solid-but-unspectacular, not really capable of taking over a game, etc...

Brady wasn't asked to do a lot in 2001 throughout the season, and indeed was more of a game manager for the most part. But he certainly contributed in the Snow Bowl game (52 passing attempts, 300+ yards in a snowstorm, 8/8 on the final drive in OT). The last drive in the Super Bowl that year was also not exactly of the game manager variety. Usually when I see the phrase used it's done to discredit in a kind of transparent way.

Oh, it definitley a negative term. The tuck rule game and one drive dont change the fact that it is very applicable to Bradys SB years.

  17. What does this have to do with the 2013 Broncos?

I think it's funny that so many opposing fans had issues with Brady saying he wasn't going to watch the Super Bowl after losing the AFCCG. Mostly the same people who, as fans, take it as seriously as death, but then fail to realize how much more vested you would be in it if you were out there on the field. Brady's a competitor, and losing sucks... few deal with it gracefully, and those who do the most winning usually have the hardest time with losing. I don't blame him for not wanting to watch a game when he probably still believed in his heart that he should have been playing in it.

It doesnt have anything to do with the 2013 broncos. It had to do with a response. "manning will have to answer for this!" "his team may not move on!" and other pessimistic points. I was pointing out that those same people probably wouldnt be saying those things if it wasnt a rival, as evidenced by the fact that maybe their QB had a stunning loss in the Super Bowl, but they werent saying those things then. They were too busy giving him a pass and making excuses.

I also show how Brady clearly was unable to move on from the AFCCG, but they will ignore this as well.

  18. Someone earlier called Brady a "game manager". Just what do pele mean when they say that? Do they think it's a negative term?

Isn't every QB supposed to be an effective game manager? Aren't they supposed to play as error free as possible and take advantage of the opportunities presented them? Aren't they all supposed to play within their ability and not force thing?

Is there such a thing as a poor QB but a great game manager? Or is there a horrible game manager, but a great QB?

Most football fans know what game manager is.

While it is not a "technicaly" correct term, it is used to describe a QB who focuses more on going through the motions and just not making mistakes because he has an immensely talented team around him. As opposed to a QB who puts his team on his shoulders and does the heavy lifting to get a win.

  19. I understand that many people feel that way; but you also have to remember that in a time of need, you would probably love the cops for coming to your assistance.

True, but police ussually dont stop crimes. They get there when it is over.

It is best to depend on yourself for protection and safety (including safety from the police)
