  1. I don't know.

But, I know much of this forum seemed to want Arians to take a hike for much of this season here based on various threads. Now that he might be gone I see a different tune at times.....?

I don't like to lose him since I don't love turnover in coaching staffs and he did a good job leading this team on the field for a large part of the season, but at the same time I don't think it will bother me too much if he did leave too. *shrugs*

I think you have a contingent of fans that like Arians' offense and think the problem is the offensive line, then you have others who think Arians' offense is more of a problem, and then you have some who fall in between. And then there's another sentiment that fears changing things with a young offense. As always, there are vocal segments of each group.

Personally, I like Arians a lot more than I like his play calling, and wouldn't mind having to find a new coordinator. Still, I would rather keep Arians than hire a bad replacement.

I agree with both of these sentiments, some of you are never happy.... but I'll take it a step further....

None of you would be complaining about an OC at all if we still had Peyton Manning...the best OC in football :cheer2: . He can even make Clyde C. look good.

    But seriously folks....

I think Arians did one thing that was very much needed.... teaching Andrew Luck Amnesia. Probably the most important thing you can teach a young QB. Forget the last play and get back out there. Throwing the ball downfield so much really helped overcome some insecurities and taught Andrew the meaning of redemption.

So you all can thank Bruce for that.

I dont' mind if Bruce takes off for a HC job, because he deserves it and timing is everything. I'm with Superman in the sentiment that I would rather have him than someone that is terrible.

  2. By the way, here's the meat of Barnwell's argument regarding the quality of this particular 11-5 team:

    I kind of agree.

But again, I don't care. As he goes on to state, so-called "bad playoff teams" have won wild card games the past two seasons. Another thing is that, while the Seahawks and Broncos won bad divisions, we actually earned a wild card spot against the entire AFC field, which is why our record is four and three games better than those teams, respectively.

All that is fun to consider and ponder, but none of it matters. We have a one game season at this point: @ Baltimore. No one cares how we got here, especially if we find a way to win.

I said this about Denver last year. They were so bad on paper they had to have G.O.D. on their side.

The article didnt mention our TO differential which is the worst ever for a team with 11 wins.

Again, as someone else pointed out...11-5 is 11-5.

  3. I never have a problem finding links to things that actually exist

    I have a good idea....

google "colts tanked the season 2011"

then scroll down the 28 pages of articles written by the boston globe, cbs, bleacher report....

    read each one....

And if you don't like what they said, or don't believe them....

WRITE TO THEM and tell them to prove their story.

I didn't write the 28+ pages of articles you will find, but I do believe they have merit.

  4. “You have to go with 18 (QB Peyton Manning),” defensive tackle Kevin Vickerson said when asked who he’d vote for. “My vote’s on 18. He took us to another whole level on this team internal-wise. Not just on the offense. Defense, special teams, everybody’s attention to detail goes up because you have somebody like that at the helm that wants the ball and that can do stuff when he gets the ball, so it’s always good.”

Not to mention that hes the best OC in the NFL, better than Arians.

    And we * cut him....#.

  5. I've looked around for Bill Parcells comments on the Colts... and there is none to be found.  Could you supply a link that support Bill Parcells saying we tanked 2011 please?

Without evidence of some type, it is up for debate- especially when the Colts organization is on public record denying it happened.  The only domino I saw pushed was the FO, coaching staff, and overpaid/injured players out the door.

Of courseI looked before i posted, I'm sure much harder than you "looked". It was on national TV around week 2. Not everything on national TV ends up on the internet.  I saw it, sorry that you didn't.

  6. Irsay is a great owner  and will stop at nothing to get his guy.

    His guy was Andrew Luck.

If you don't think he had some influence on 'how to get Luck', then you are delusional. Personally, I think it was the single best move by any NFL owner in the history of the NFL.

So many NFL analysts agree with the fact that the Colts tanked, its really not even up for debate. Bill parcells is one of the few who spoke about it on National TV, however. Obviously the topic is somewhat Taboo because it implies cheating. I don't believe in cheating...but I do believe in "gaming the game".

Its very easy to push one domino down and watch the rest fall, believe me.

  7. It was a once in a generation talent pool at the position of QB, in fact we haven't seen the end of this talent pool either as I'm sure in the next few years we'll see others from this draft producing well at an NFL leve.

Seattle was very very fortunate, and the Colts and Skins are both going to be set for a long long time at the positon. Its really a matter of personal opinion at some point. There are people who like numbers, some like what they see on the field.

Its a different league. The spread option is the future of the NFL and guys like Kaepernick, Wilson and RG3 are going to be commonplace. Like FJC said, these kids are running no huddles in highschool. You also have the texas 12v 12 passing only leagues....Most of Mannings records will be shattered in the next two decades, believe me.

I'm wondering if Grigs had Wilson on his radar and if so what moves would he have made if he was our GM last year.

  8. That was my understanding as well, and I agree that Grigson did well with both trades.  I definitely think we came out ahead in both, though I'm not quite as sure about the trade up for Hilton.  Granted I have no idea where other teams had Hilton graded but my thinking is he likely could have still been there for our normal pick.  However, I do like the fact that he had a player he really wanted and didn't want to miss out on so he did what he had to do to get him.  And I definitely do think that Hilton was a great addition...just not sure we actually had to trade up to get him.  No way of knowing for sure though.

I was pretty ticked that we traded up too. I remember wanted Courtney Upshaw to come play for the colts under Pags.

I have to say, I was wrong. I love TY. kid is YAC all daaaaay.

  9. early weather..forecast

    High of 45...with sunny skies.

    Little chance of rain...

    ..very good for January 6

    ...

wife gave me permission to stub hub tix and make the 4 hour drive.

since im originally a baltimore colt fan, i thought it might be nice to take the family down.

but was afraid it would be too cold for my little ones and didn't pull the trigger.

now im second guessing my decision to not go.

  10. I've never seen Irsay in a t-shirt and jeans before. Looks weird, very Favre-ish.

Anyways, he's seemed thinner over the past year, almost swimming in his suits (really noticeable in Pagano's presser last week). He also seems to be moving kind of stiff, sometimes even hunched over. Seems like he's in pain in all the time.

If there were something going on with his back, and he's trying to avoid painkillers because of his past issues, that might explain it.

    ^this

but there is no way the hunched over, in considerable pain, noticeably overweight and dancing with pags - was this guy. Was this a PS head on a a trainers body?

On a serious note. Irsay looks like hes in a lot of pain. Chuck practically killed him doing that dance.

    Hope he is ok.

  11. I don't think that the team(players) quit in many if any games, maybe the New Orleans debacle, but the players kept fighting for the most part.

With that said, the coaching staff did nothing till late in the season when they switched to Orlovsky and ran a simple basic offense.

When Manning went under the knife the 2nd time the Manning offensive system should have been shelved. Signing Kerry Collins some can argue is a panic move, but it is still a move. The problem was having him running Manning's offense with a week to 10 days to grasp it, which blew Polian's foolish Kerry can grasp any offense conceptually in 48hours, or whatever it was that he was spewing.

Obviously with Collins getting hurt they turned to Painter who while having more time from a knowledge point of view, he did not have the skill set to run the Manning offense. He didn't have the skill set to be on a roster in my opinion, but if you are going to play him, then at least attempt to put him in a position to have some success outside of Garcon breaking a few short throws for long gains/touchdowns.

So I place blame on the losing record to Peyton Manning's injury. But I put the embarrassing 2-14 record on the ineptitude of the Jim Caldwell,  and Clyde Christensen. Coyer gets his share of the blame, and if there were instructions to not alter the offense from Polian, then more of the blame gets shifted to him.

I've said before that it seems early on Jim Irsay was given the misinformation that Peyton would never play again. At that point he became fassinated with Andrew Luck, and I don't think the team pulled out all stops to win games. If so, the offense would have been converted to your goal line package, and expanded. Which you would start off with the I formation and your various running plays, you then add the 3wr set, the routes/names/calls etc stay the same there isn't an issue there, but it is a pretty easy concept to accomplish.

Like go-pats said last year wasn't your traditional 2 win team, not with the talent that was on the team. If the offense would have been halfway competent, meaning, higher 3rd down conversions, better completion %, then the defense would've been placed in a better position, which is one way the improved offense has helped the defense out this year. The same can be said for Denver, but that is for another thread.

I won't agree that the team(players) threw away the season. Painter was trying his best, he just wasn't put into a situation that he could succeed. He and Collins both would have performed better in a different system. The team would have had 5-6 wins.

As others have pointed out there were a number of games lost within 6-7-8 points and with better quarterback play some of those games would have been in the win column.

In the preseason, there were tons of expectations threads, and some were throwing out 3k passing yards, 15, td's, and such, heck those #'s were achieved last year, and I was mocked for having high expectations of both the team and a #1 QB. With competent QB this team would be a playoff team. With Manning, I felt they would be a contender just as Denver is...

So I won't buy that the team tanked the season, but I also won't say that they(Polian/Caldwell/Christensen/Coyer/Irsay) pulled out every stop or did the things to prevent the horrendous 2-14 season.   A competent coaching staff would have prevented that.

    ^this.

Dont forget Jim's dad let Elway get away. One thing is for sure is that Jim knows how to land a Franchise QB and I think he will do anything to make sure the next Elway doesn't get away.

  12. I dont' see anything wrong with the Question being posed. I have a problem with colts fans that have to take shots at former Colt greats because they feel insecure about the question.

Many of us like to discuss where we could be better objectively. Offensive Line, DBs...gasp...even QB.

Unfortunately there is a camp here that can't handle objective assessments of Andrew Luck, period.

Asking which QB you'd rather have in the playoffs is a valid Question and no one should be upset when the answer is the guys with the higher QB rating.

  13. Tim Teebow took the Broncos to the playoffs because the team was so good they just needed a decent QB. With manning they have dominated to the #1 seed but the Most valuable player doesn't take a playoff team to #1 seed. A MVP puts terrible team on his back and carries them past 8 in a box into the playoffs and thats exactly what AP did.

Him and manning should split CPotY, because they both did the impossible.
