I'll save Mark the time and just say NEVER. He does have Peterson now though but I am not even sure he can make it through the season without getting injured? He is very injury prone.

When Peyton went down, were you guys confident that Painter could win any games? Shaun Hill is worse than what Painter was then.

I am late to the party but skimmed through the Posts and see you don't like this so I don't have to ask you how do you like this. I agree a 1st Rounder is way to much and a 4th on top of it. Sam is injury prone as well.

I feel a bit better about the trade after thinking it through. Yes, it is a lot to give up for a stopgap player and I never like giving away high draft picks for anyone. However, we were not going to have any chance of making the playoffs with Shaun Hill or anyone else we had at QB. I also believe that that there may be concern that Teddy will not be ready for next season. Bradford has a 2-year contract, $18/year. The Eagles already paid $11 million. I believe we will pay him $7 million for this year, which is not bad for a starting QB.

For a better than average QB that can play right now?  The Vikings really can't wait for a development project, they have a very good team with a few aging players.  They are in win now mode, not in need of a development QB, not an old vet that can give them .500 over 4-5 games.  First round is what was spent on Bradford (and a TON of money! Before the rookie wage scale) I believe Bradford soundly outperforms any QB from this last draft this year, including the first rounders-

Goff, Wentz, Lynch, Hackenberg, Kessler, Cook, even Dak Prescott.

This is the best team Sam has ever been on in the Pro's.  The price seems steep, but it is the going rate. QB's like Osweiler with 7 games total experience get 18 million a year. It takes two, and both teams agreed to the deal, so...

The post you quoted was not written by me; it gives my username but I did not write it. What happened there???

(I believe it was Teganslaw who wrote what you quoted.)

Now that I have had time to think about it, I am okay with this trade.

Definitely a weird situation and a tough one, I believe you have extra 4th rounders (if i remember right). Lets see what happens. My view is that it's a one year window move, and if the trade doesn't give you a SB chance, then there was no point in making it. An extreme view, but JMO. You know more about the Vikings then me, so if you're fine with it, then GL. Hopefully it won't hurt your future. I would of got someone like McCown.

The Browns reportedly wanted "better than a third round pick" for McCown. I would not like that. How old is McCown?? This move gives time for Teddy to get back, especially if his rehab requires more than one year

The Vikes have Miami's 3rd and 4th round picks this year (edit.. in the 2017 draft).

The Vikings needed to do something as the season starts in a week. Bradford looked good in preseason, and as long as he can remain healthy, it might be OK. The Vikings have plenty of talent on their team, so it's not the end. I don't like the idea of them giving up a first round draft pick, but the deal is already done. Wait and see how this works out.

Thank you. That is how I see it.

There's a difference between giving up on the season and giving up the ultimate draft currency for a mediocre qb for one year. Ultimate risk/reward, I can't imagine the fanbase is happy about it at all. It seems irresponsible that you are trying to force yourselves to be a threat when this year it's just not going to happen. If you make the playoffs and lose, now what? Do you start Bradford because of the price you paid for him? Bridgewater? This was a strange moment, and I don't see you as SB contenders (sorry). I do believe you may trade a player or two to get a pick back though, so I will wait before casting judgment. I hope it works out for the vikings.

We always have a lot of picks. We value draft picks. Check out our last few drafts. We have two picks from Miami in 2017. We will get more.

We may not win the Super Bowl but we have to give ourselves a chance. There is zero chance that we would do anything with Shawn Hill.

Should we have traded a lower pick for Geno Smith, Mark Sanchez or Kaep? (BTW, there is no way we would sign Kaep, especially not with what happened after the AP fiasco.)

  7. 10 minutes ago, Jared Cisneros said:

You think you have a chance at making the SB with Bradford? This just made me Shake my head and think what's wrong with you guys. Teddy's injury is either worse than a year out, or Bradford is going to compete with Teddy next year. I'm high on Bradford compared to most on here, and I don't like it. Just think he's going to be benched next year when Teddy returns. Like you gave yourself a 1 year window with a 1st and 4th round pick?

We may not, but that is not the point. Should we give up on the season?

As I have written many times over my two and a half years here, I don't like to give up draft picks for other teams' players. Our team values draft picks too. Just check out the last several drafts. Today we will be cutting players that we really like and value because we have no room for them. You liked Kentrell Brothers, right? We may have to cut him. Wanna trade for him. :P We need to replenish draft picks.

Lol, right. Bradford isn't exactly Mr. Clean bill of health himself.

That is the first thing I thought of when I saw the trade announcement flash on my cell phone.

Having said that, I am more optimistic today than I was yesterday. We have a very talented team; we don't want to squander an opportunity to win. We have guys like Chad Greenway who are retiring. We have to give them a chance to win something.

The eagles dumped him in favor of chase daniel a week before the start of the season.  Wasn't bradford assumed to be the eagles starter?

Same thing I was going to ask

But Pat Shurmur is a coach on the team. Many believe that he was putting his stamp on the team and that was why Teddy was being allowed to throw much more. Bradford played for Shurmur.

We will win more with Bradford than with Shawn Hill.

  10. 6 minutes ago, jvan1973 said:

Wow,   That's ridiculous.   The Vikings panicked.

I agree but we were not going anywhere with Shawn Hill or anyone else we had there. Also, Pat Shurmur is a coach on the team. He was with Bradford last year. He must like Bradford.

Especially considering bridgewater will be back next year.  Assuming his injury isn't worse than we think

Did you see my other post? He might miss more than this year. I really hope not.

Rob Ninkovich is getting suspended for the first 4 weeks of the season for using a banned substance. Not looking good in New England for this first month.

Do you think Goodell will suspend Brady any additional time for playing the preseason games without the NFL logo on his helmet? Lol.

    All true

But I ask this, do you trust Shaun Hill to make it completely through a 16 game schedule without incident or injury?

    .

Certainly, the poison to the Vikings is getting a QB that turns the ball over.  Minnesota can win without having a 30 TD passing QB.  What the Vikings cannot do is give other teams extra chances on offense.  So the backup to Shaun Hill must know the Vikes O, and be able to stick a foot in the ground and fire a 20 yard dig on play action here and there (and other tyoe plays) without fumbling or throwing INT's.  J. McCown could do that. But I agree, he is not worth a high draft pick. Let the Brown keep him behind RGIII.

His salary makes it more difficult, but I'd possibly trade with Eagles for Chase Daniel before taking Kaep or Sanchez.  Even if it was an incentive laced conditional draft pick deal. If Daniel comes in for many games and saves the season, was it worth the condition giving a little higher round draft pick because of the incentive was met?

    Good luck in any event.

To the bolded, I don't trust Shaun Hill to make it through the first game. Lol. But seriously, I don't have much confidence in him, but we have no other choice but to play him the first few games. Taylor Heinicke who is a second-year player showed some promise. He is injured now but is expected back in 2 to 3 weeks. Perhaps we can start him after the bye week.

We do need to sign another QB for insurance purposes. Let's see who is available on the waiver wire after tomorrow.

In a knee dislocation, there are multiple severe ligament tears / sprains.  Sometimes, multiple surgical procedures are needed to complete the reconstruction, and often surgery is commenced before all swelling has been reduced, due to other complications from delay.

And yes, after I reviewed the data, previously it was difficult or near impossible to come back from this not all that long ago.  These days, where if all goes well in reconstruction and rehab, a player very well can return.  To me, especially a young Quarterback; notably one in a Run First offensive scheme.  This is why I believe in Teddy and his return and getting his future career back on track.

EDIT: Another reason to believe in Teddy-

Thank you for this. I saw Teddy's statement and posted it on my profile last night (on a status update). He hand-wrote that and gave it to the team to release on his behalf. He lifted up our spirits.

    Quote:

I want to thank the Wilf Family and the entire Vikings organization, all of my teammates, friends, Eric Sugarman and the amazing Vikings athletic training staff and the fans who have sent me messages and wished me well. Your thoughts and prayers mean a lot to me and have helped me in this difficult time. There are great players and great leaders in our locker room who are going to fight to the end to reach the goals we set for 2016. I will be there mentally, physically and in spirit to support them accomplish those goals.

In order to have a testimony, you have to have a test. I come from amazing DNA, I watched my mom fight and win against breast cancer. We will, as a team, attack my rehab with the same vigor and energy. My faith is strong, my faith is unwavering and my vision is clear. My purpose will not be denied.

Yes, totally agree with this.  But to be sure, I'd back up Shaun Hill with McCown from the Browns.  McCown will protect the ball and execute the Minnesota offense quite well. Sanchez cannot protect the ball and is not suited for the Vikings O.  If Hill goes down, you don't want to sacrifice the season to a 'developing young QB' just yet.  That's why I'd go for McCown.  But if a young development QB is on the list, ring up Tampa Bay and get Mike Glennon, IMHO.

I hear you. I guess my post was not clear. I am not counting on Hogan for this year. I want him to be Teddy's backup of the future. I was disappointed when we did not draft a young QB in the late rounds this year. I think it makes sense to draft QBs to develop the way Green Bay, New England, and the Eagles do. They have all traded QBs for high to mid-round draft picks (Brunell & Hasselbeck, Cassell, Kevin Kolb).

I don't want to trade high draft picks for anyone. So, I don't want Glennon or McCown. I read that the Browns want "more than a 3rd round pick" for McCown. No, thank you. Our GM feels the same way. However, I think you are right that he is probably one of the best options for us. He does not come with baggage and he understands his role. He seems calm. If we could get him for one of the players that we value but can't fit on the roster, then I would take him.

    the Vikings will be fine.

They can go 5-2 to start the season with a back up.

    that said...Kaepernick is coming..dont laugh,youll be sorry..he's coming.

     Its going to happen.

And Green Bay wont like the sound of it.

I don't know about that (signing Kaep). He would be a huge distraction. We don't need that.

Rumors (nothing confirmed) have it that we are exploring a trade for Sanchez and that we are bringing in Vick for a visit. I want neither player. I prefer to stay with what we have. At least our guys know the system and playbook and we know what we have in them.

If we must bring in someone, I would prefer a young QB like Kevin Hogan to develop. The Chiefs would have to cut him. I am a Stanford fan and would love to have him in our organization.

@NFLfan glad to hear you are feeling better. I wont even bother asking you how you think the team will do now (I just did I guess) if you don't want to talk about it yet.

I don't know yet. Let's see if we bring in another QB. Our backup is pretty bad. Our third-string QB Tyler Heinicke looked promising last year but he is out with a non-football injury and won't be back for several weeks. I really don't want to give up draft picks for a stopgap QB. I hope we wait to claim someone who gets cut.

What can I give you for your 3rd string QB? ;)

Kind of hard to find fault in the gentleman, and was progressing well in his career.  Hopefully, there will be no setbacks in treatment/recovery and he can resume his career path early next season.

To me, he will always be the QB the Browns rejected, after they paid a Hundred Grand for a study of who to take, Manzeil or Bridgewater.  Of course the study pointed to Teddy and the Browns then took Johnny.  ;-)

Lol. I am pretty sure that the study was of all the quarterbacks in the 2014 draft, not just Manziel and Teddy. The study chose Teddy over all of them.
