  1. This is a classic example of drafting a player on NEED, vs best available

We needed a pass rusher, he was available we took him

There were better players at other positions, on the board......

I hoped he would work out........ but........ Its time to move on

  2. Is it just me or did anyone else get the feeling he DIDN'T WANT to play the rest of this season? It's like he's searching for an exit option with pay.

I dont give grief to anyone in this league that wants to be sure that they arent furthering an injury by comeing back too early

Last year... the doctor was WRONG...... he came back to early...... he reinjured the leg.........

I also would get a second opnion

Many players cant walk without pain the rest of their lives after playing.

    Some (many need a cane)...........

The average NFL career is less than 4 years

    Just another viewpoint

  3. I feel like Griff / Vincent are both expendable for a late draft pick or a player in a diff position w/ high upside, due to both having a high probability of getting cut.

Moncrief would be a hard sale even for a 1st rounder to me.  Moncrief has size, speed, and can block as a WR (has the prototypical combo for a #1 WR).  He is 22yrs old and only getting better.  1 injury to TY or Andre and he is a starter again, like last year.   I'd rather just keep him and be deep at the WR position.

The problem is.... Griff doesnt warrant a trade for a draft pick........  People like Griff, are all over the place......

Moncrief has to show more to be trade bait...... He might be worth a 3rd or 4th

  4. Not In a year where they have pretty much said they are going all in for a Super Bowl. Then trading away a player like Fleener who will be a big part of that to stock pile draft picks makes no sense. If you can get something for Carter that's a little different because he's at the end of your roster(if he makes the team) and you are already extremely deep there.

After seeing the Vikings give away 75 players to the Cowboys for H. Walker...... any trade is possible

You wouldnt do the trade if we could get a stud pro bowl NT as part of the package (We would have to also give up some picks?

I would..... and it would help this year

  5. Fleener is a big WR in this offense

    His blocking is suspect

Allen is less of a reciever, but he can block

The reality is............ with the possible exception of Luck

    EVERYONE has a trade price.

Carter MAY be worth a 7th (Probably not)

Fleener is probably worth a 3rd

  6. Haven't watched the game a second time, so I'm going off of initial viewing. I'll start with the negatives to end on a good note.

    Negatives:

D'Qwell Jackson is still incredibly slow and a liability every pass play. Geathers worked as a nickel-LB during TC and I don't know how he'd fair there during the regular season, but he at least offers some speed on passing downs.

The Colts are probably going to be near the top of the league in missed tackles this season. It's been a theme through 3 games thus far.

Werner is still invisible. His first round pick status keeps him from the roster bubble where he deserves to be.

WR screens are still a thing.

Two tight-end sets are still a thing.

"Establishing the run" is still a thing.

Lance Louis. Actually, an form of run-blocking aside from like 2 carries.

I'm 100% this was just a pre-season thing, but there was rarely any press-coverage. Everything was soft.

Kicking a field goal on the goal-line in a pre-season game. This was classic Pagano.

If you need a first down and are playing the Colts, call a RB screen. It's basically a free first down.

    Positives:

"I am become Josh Robinson; Destroyer of Worlds"

Pass Blocking gets an A+. Saw Mewhort get beaten for a hurry or two, but overall a great job by the offensive line.

Kendall Langford and Erik Walden wrecked havoc on the Rams offensive lineman all game.

Boom ran well when he had competent blocking.

Andre looks like he still has some juice. Nice to not see a Colts #2 WR not limp 5 yards after the catch.

    Two-minute offense is still undefeated.

Defense held up decently in the running game.

This obviously wasn't the Colts teams at it's best. The offense was a bit off and the defense, even considering how vanilla the schemes were, just lacks talent at key areas (notably ILB) to play consistently at a high level.

    Great post!

This was one of the more even handed posts you have done in a while.......

I was only able to watch a few clips...... but

    The positives are there

The negatives are very "fixable" and will be addressed

When Gore and Robinson wear down the defense, it will be a beautiful thing to watch in the 4th quarter

When Mathis gets on the field and is added to the pass rush already there, it will be a beautiful thing to watch

I think we will be a top 2-3 team in the NFL this year.

  7. We could always take a look at the guard Andy L that some people on the forum wanted before he signed with the Titans he's currently on the roster bubble for them

Its funny you say that, because I probably was one of those guys that wanted him to be the saviour of this OL........

It just goes to show you,,,,,,,,,  It doenst always work out as its planned..........

The hindsight guys ("I TOLD YOU that we should have got THAT guy!!!! Gris is so STUPID..... We need to fire Pagano.....") dont tend to remember when they say we should have drafted or traded the farm for "Mr Amazing Talent"... Mt Talent,,,,, that doesnt work out........

I would LOVE to go through this forum over the past 5 years.... and see how many people were always right

It isnt an exact science......  we just read and reguritate most of the stuff that gets posted here.....  We see a play or two, and make an assumption.......

Maybe people that do this for a living ..........  maybe they are better at it   :)

  8. I would address the O-line first and why only Herremans huh? E. Mathis to the Broncos and Grigs couldʻnt persuade him to come on board....CʻMON GRIGS!

There is some history between Grigs and the Eagles

It appears to be mostly positive, but lets face it.........  not everyone gets along with everyone else

Mathis and Grigs could just be personalies that dont mesh

Think about ALL of your past co-workers...... you liked some of them, and wouldnt mind working with them again.......

but....... there is that dude in accounting.......  you know.... "Bob"   what a wienie.......     You WOULDNT want to work with him again

Another factor might have benn Heremans, who knows if they just didnt get along

There is always something going on behind the scenes that isnt visable........

  9. What if...........

He plays as good as when he was in NE?

He was a decent G there... not great, but better than whats on the Colts roster today at G

    A man can dream

I think the Colts are still high on Donald Thomas, even after 2 years of injuries

Lets keep our fingers crossed (While keeping the sky high expectations at bay)........ He may be a starting G on this team

  10. It will be situational.

If the Corner is bigger, more aggresive, Dorsett will play more.

If he is smaller, faster type, then Montcrief will have the majority of the snaps.

Pep talks about finding mismatches and taking advantage of them

With both those guys, we have a mismatching dream.

Fully expect 1 guy  to  play alot one week then the other having a big day a different week.

It's not about who deserves it more, it's about winning.

I agree..... I think you will see that they will ALSO use Moncrief more when it is red zone

  11. They are definitely 2 different type of QB's. I loved Manning's precision and his innovation with the no huddle. It was a thing of beauty. Luck brings just about everything to the table that you want in a QB: Accuracy, strength, running ability, pocket awareness, football smarts and leadership. In the end both with go down as 2 of the all time greats.

I compare Manning to Dan Marino in his style and abilities. I compare Luck more to John Elway with his abilities(although not many had the arm strength to compare to Elway).

Manning is like a ferrari........   He can get on it when the conditions are good

Luck is like a 4 wheel drive F150   ......... he can go when others cant

Unfortunately (or fortunately) depending on what side of the arguement you are on,  the playoffs are many times in the cold and slop...........  (the Ferrai may need to be in the garage)  ....... The F150 becomes more practical

Luck at this stage is a bit more reckless than Manning was (2nd year on).....  But...... I see Luck becoming more like a younger Brett Farve, that takes the team on his back, and finds a way to win

Luck gives you that 3rd and 2 to go down, where everyone is covered, he just takes off and runs over the db, and gets the first down

When Manning had a 3rd and 2.......  and everyone was covered, ........it was punt time..........

For those that "pine away" for the "good old days..........  please stop.........

Those good old teams SHOULD have won 3-4 SBs....... they didnt

Manning never really figured out the 3-4, in the playoffs, on the grass.........

Anything can happen, but in my book, this team..... with slight improvement each year, and some solid cap management, should be on the doorstep of the SB for the next 10 years

Imagine the mood on the Jaguars or Radiers board.......... they hope to just be competitive

An 8-8 record would be an amazing feat.......

We have been spoiled folks...... enjoy the ride..... .... (While it lasts)

  12. I dont want to offend anyone....... this is obviously a comparison thread of how weak the Colts are now, vs how strong the Colts were THEN

A bit of a silly thread.... but I know as a Colts fan, you just want the team to win

Manning was and is Awesome.....  He led this loser of a team out of the basement.........

    But.......

If its january, if its cold, if its windy..........

I would take Luck ALWAYS over Manning

Manning had too many games where we dominated the regular season but stunk up the playoffs.... ONE AND DONE

That was him AND the teams of those times

Again........ give me the slop and cold.... IN JANUARY or FEBRUARY........ I would MUCH rather have Luck!

And... the team that we have assmbled today!

We keep getting better.... the trends are in the right direction........ have faith people

I believe the OL will step it up

My biggest concern is NT....(But we MIGHT be able to win the SB regardless)

  13. I agree

He looked strong with the Broncos

Freeman can cover (some) but isnt a good run stopper

    However...........

ALL of our ILBs would LOOK better if we had decent NT play............

Freeman gets clobbered when a RB has a full head of steam

Jackson does OK, but is slower in reacting.... and then when he is on the field when the competition passes......... (guess where the ball goes)

  14. How different is this year team from last year team. Could any of these guys Boom H., Coby F. Dewayne A., or Moncrief take over a game and dominate, No (and I don't see that changing this year.  But this is where I see this year team is different. Last year shut Ty Hilton down, and Luck has no one to pass to.  The Colts can not rush or pick up a first down.  The defense while good in spots if left out there too long, while watching and offense that could not score, rush or pass, would get tired and blown out.

This year the defense may be a little better.  The offense is almost night and day different.  You can double Ty if you dare, but how can you stop Dorsett one on one, how can you stop Andre J. one on one.  I know he only rushed two times, but how can you stop Frank Gore without eight in the box.  The Colts brought in three guys that can take over a game.  While the o-line is a little concerning.  But if Luck is getting rid of the ball in 2 or 3 seconds that covers a bad o-line. Cup half full, no that cup is running over.

It would appear, minus injuries that the offense improved  (it became more explosive)

It would appear, minus injuries that the defense improved (maybe only slightly overall, but definitley more depth)

Even a little improvement, for a team that went to the AFC championship game could be all we need to win the SB

  15. This is the NFL, you don't get credit for trying.

Actually.......  You get credit for winning

This team has won....  Last I looked, they improved every year the last 3 years

    One game from the SB.......

When you win.... you get the benefit of the doubt........

This front office deserves the benefit of the doubt

They have made some good decisions and they have made some bad ones....

(Please show me a front office that has been perfect in every decision)

Rehashing and continuing the shoulda coulda woulda stuff, from 3 years ago....(Like we are all some great talent evaluators)  .....without at least recognizing the successes is a little bit one sided, dont you think?

There are 26 (or so) other teams that wish that they had OUR........ HORRIBLE problems.............

  16. We could have did the same trade Minnesota gave the Patriots (maybe even have gotten another low pick), which would have given us pick #52 ... Warford went at #65 + given us more picks .... instead we have Werner.

Werner was an attempt to improve the pass rush with an aging Mathis.......

Give the front office some credit.... they were trying

    ...... its that Hindsight thing.......

However, and again, I will get booed on this board if I show a little optimism, I think Werner will develop into a good football player.

He doesnt have a passrushers speed or moves but I think he can develop into a decent LB on the strong side

    We will see
