Sorry, you're not going to convince me that was sarcasm.

Correct. I exaggerated the excitement people have for Cain to make a small dent in the over the top claims people are making about a seriously injured rookie being a stud. No more no less. Tongue in cheek, not sarcasm. Although their might be a fine line between them. Some would say flippant. Who cares really....

  2. Buying a newspaper at Glasgow airport many years ago and next in line was one of my football (soccer) favourites. I nodded, shook his hand and said "hello Alistair, hope you are well". "You too big man" he said, and off I went. Wife went minty when I told her later. Why didn't you get his autograph she asked. I shrugged, 'respect'......

Nobody said that, that's a ridiculous statement. Neither has Campbell, or any other rookie for that matter, just like last year, but people can have high hopes for Pete's sake.

Sometimes. Just sometimes, you have to read between the lines.....

  4. We had some good clips of Bjorn Werner if I recall. I'm optimistic on all players until they prove themselves one way or another. Anyway, must go, meeting up with my sister, Debbie D for a coffee.

  5. The fans say "we are in great shape. Ballard will smash the Draft again. Luck is elite. We will win the Super Bowl. Etc."

The schedule comes out: "aaaahhhh, we are doomed. It's fixed. Schedule from hell. Chicken Little, Chicken Little......aaaaaahhhhhh.

    Fans, eh.

Those are interesting words. Very often huh... that doesn't happen very often where I come from in this state. Must be a demographic thing. Might be a loyalty problem also. If that were truly a case, there wouldn't be very many generations of the same universities, which we all know isn't true. Many families have loyalties to a university and their sport teams generation after generation.

I'm not insinuating hou are not a die hard loyal fan. Or your family. But if you can get me an interview with a newly born 'colts fan', then I will take it all back. Btw, it's not really that important. Glad you are so passionate about our team. Go well.

Disagree thoroughly. I was born into a Colts family. I was born into an Indiana football family in general, with several high school program ties and family ties to Notre Dame and Purdue football alike. I was wearing Colts apparell as a baby, and my son was as well. Some people never have the choice as it is so ingrained from the beginning, much like religion... and yes I will compare religion and football, as to me they are much of the same.

Many people are 'born into' x team families and once they are old enough to make an informed decision, they pick their own 'team', which very often differs from the family choice.

Nah neutral media pointing out a team to watch out for isn't a band wagon jumper.

Band wagon jumpers are people who were never fans before suddenly becoming fans.

So every fan is one, as we were not born as a fan of any particular team, we had to chose one at some time in our life.....

i'd wouldn't be shocked either way on Sheard. He is solid, but not near elite. He did lead the DLs in snap count, tackles, and QB hits (tied) in 2018. Some of that is misleading though. Turay had as many QB hits, and in less than half the snaps. It will be interesting to see the numbers Houston put up. If he does stay, I'd be shocked if his snap count didn't decrease by at least 25%. More if we pick a guy like Ray or Lynch.

Pretty sure it is important to have 'solid' players on the roster. Most teams are very lucky to have more than a few elite players. He is definitely worth keeping.

    Everyone’s making jokes of this.

Would be hilarious if got a new LS and he wasn’t good. I’d love to lose a game over a botched XP or FG.

Apologies. I shall stop being lighthearted. For all future posts I shall consider my responses with an appropriate amount of seriousness. At all times. Forever. I do feel quite small now. Sorry.

  11. Maybe Funchess will improve by a significant margin by having a proper QB throwing his way, rather than lining up behind a glorified running back. I trust Ballard more than a few combine reports and some potentially irrelevant statistics. It's as if no player has ever improved after moving to a different team.....

  12. Even if he plays just ok, but has a few great games which helps us finish in the running for the championship, no one will reflect and look back and bemoan how much cash we paid him. All this griping and naysaying is sounding a wee bit like spoiled fan syndrome (across all threads, not specifically this one). If you have not grasped Ballard's methods yet, I guess you never will. It is circa 6 months until any of this matters, until then.....

  13. Yes, although if we could swing it, I'd prefer we got JaMarcus Russell, the big dog from Turner & Hooch and meaty sized bag of M&M's (peanut butter). Failing that, a large poster of Debbie Harry in thigh length boots could swing it. "Oh Denis, obi doo......"

My number one stance this offseason, beyond a shadow of a doubt, is that we should ABSOLUTELY NOT spend high draft capital on a safety.

I keep seeing all these mocks with us taking a safety within our first 3 picks and I just shake my head. Allow me to explain.

Our current safety group is pretty good with Hooker and the widely assumed returns of Geathers and Farley. If neither of them return, that's ok too, because of how the safety market is likely to unfold.

Like last year, there are A LOT of valuable safeties on the market, including Landon Collins, who fits the the Ballard mold like a glove. And if you recall last year, the safeties all got relatively smaller contracts and went unsigned till late in the offseason, and even into the regular season.

If we need safety help, there are guys available in free agency that are quality players and wont demand a large contract due to the market value of the position. We can use our more prominent draft capital on more coveted positions.

It just flat out makes no sense to spend an early draft pick on that position when there is more than enough value to be had in free agency.

    End rant.

List of prominent Safeties available in FA.

    Adrian Amos
    Tre Boston
    Ha Ha Clinton-Dix
    Landon Collins
    George Iloka
    Lamarcus Joyner
    Tyrann Mathieu
    Mike Mitchell
    Adrian Phillips
    Curtis Riley
    Earl Thomas
    Kenny Vaccaro
    Jimmie Ward

What does refusing to back down from your stance actually mean? Could you even be tempted by a few little tidbits? And if your lord and master orders you to stand down, will you comply or break ranks? I am almost as excited about where this goes as I am about season 8 of Game of  Thrones.....
