When he scored the second TD he definitely slowed down as he realized he’d score. That left him open to get flattened. Hopefully he doesn’t repeat Luck’s first few years when he also didn’t avoid hits.

Spot on. He kind of jogged in instead of attacking the line. At the time it looked a bit arrogant/cocky to me. Something the coaches will help him with I hope.

Exactly. They took the most important regular season game of the year and gave it to Germany?! Wth. If the league wants to play overseas. Create a European league like the NBA did and leave our teams home

Most important game of the regular season? The Brady v Manning days are long gone. Chide the owners, they sent ‘our’ teams scuttling off overseas. Anyway, all irrelevant what us fans think, the money men decide as usual…..

I love the idea, but why not do preseason games instead of regular season? Sure the product is worse, but I feel bad for the home team losing a home game.

I think the ‘non USA’ fan base are a little more discerning than that. I assume it was the owners that agreed to all this, not the fans…..

I think you're making my point.  The vast majority of the fans at those games are not for one team specifically.  They are NFL fans.

And I agree it's a different atmosphere.  To me (and I'm only speaking for myself) the games don't feel the same.   It gives me that "it doesn't really matter who wins or loses" feeling when I'm watching them.  I think I pick that up from the crowd, who for the most part feel the same way.

I’d say the neutrals mostly pick a team to cheer on. Or should I say, a team to root against! A different kind of atmosphere doesn’t mean it’s not as good as a normal US game. Maybe more fun. And we watch sport for fun. Mostly…….

They are the world champions.  Any other teams in the world going to beat them?

Same as the MLB World Series.  Or the Big 10.

Hypothetically, yes they are. In real terms, champions of the USA. But it’s all a bit petty, who really cares. But I can assure you, that when we won the lot in 06/07, I never once punched the air and proclaimed that we were ‘champions of the world’!!! Did you?

It’s like we’re watching an exhibition game.  The crowds aren’t real fans of either team, they’re there because it’s the NFL.  As a group, they have no skin in the game.

It just feels different.  Now if the city, Berlin, London, Mexico City, etc., had its own team it would be different.

A very misguided view my friend. Perhaps if you attended a game over here in Europe, you might change your mind. Yes, there are fans of all 32 teams attending, but the atmosphere is cool, although perhaps different from the games in the US.

  7. Living in Scotland, we never got much NFL on the TV in the mid 80’s, apart from a one hour highlight show, aired a week after the games. The only live game was the SB, my first being the Bears in 1985/86. That was some team, and J became a kind of passive Chicago fan for a while. Mad McMahon, Dent, Singleterry, and of course, Walter Payton. He was majestic. Then I drifted away from the game until 2004, and my father called me. He had placed a bet on a team to win the Super Bowl, and they had a great QB. Guess who!!

By then, we were getting live games now in the UK, and I just started following the Colts, and my passion just grew and grew. The night we beat the Patriots in the AFCCG has been one of my best sporting memories ever. But the day that the coward Polian pulled the starters and quit on a perfect season almost made me chuck the Colts. It was disgraceful.

Seen the Colts live twice. In the LOS vs the Seahawks in 2013 and the disastrous loss to the Jags at Wembley a few years ago. I did meet and have a quick chat with Dallas Clark before the game though, what a lovely man. My long weekend in Indy in 2013 was magical, and the townsfolk were fantastic. Nice pubs too!!!

Been a member of this forum since about 2005, and loads of familiar faces still around since those days, which is great. And that includes a few Pats fans!!!!

Well, you did ask. Hope everyone is well.

Don't want to belabor the point, but wanted to mention the contrast with Ballard. Even though he had just said 'I don't want to compare QBs,' Ballard gave an insightful comment about similarities and traits and how they saw it, without giving away their scouting report. Then Steichen gets asked a similar but different question, and just shuts it down without even trying to offer anything meaningful. And it's a fair question; we want to know what the plan is for this super young, super raw, super talented QB that they just drafted with a super high pick.

Like I said, between weak questions and formulaic answers, I don't expect a lot from the coach's pressers, so it's not like I'm gonna be hanging on every word. But that moment didn't go over well for me. And it seems to be his MO during pressers to be standoffish. And I think maybe because this is the first time we've seen him with Ballard, aside from the intro presser, the contrast was very pronounced.

Fair point. Never been a fan of pressers or post match interviews. Stating the ‘bleedin’ obvious’ stuff. And I think you need to earn the ‘grumpy’ mantle, not start off like it. Belichick, Sir Alex Ferguson (if you follow soccer) and many other very successful coaches can get away with it, almost play up to their own turgid personality, but the newbies need to earn it. Although in a complete contradiction, maybe we’ve had too much of a nicey nicey approach over the years, what with Dungy and Caldwell and Chuck and Frank etc, maybe it’s time for some spikiness…..

Physically.   6’4” 244, runs 4.4.   Jumps high and far.   No other QB has ever come close to those physical traits.   He’s in a league of his own.  A class of one.  A complete Unicorn.

I only became seriously interested when I read AR is smart.   That’s he scored very high on this new so-called S-test.   Combine the high level physical skill with a high level mental aptitude gives me hope I wasn’t sure I’d ever feel.

Gotcha sir, thanks for the info. On vacation now, but I’ll do some research on him when I get home. Cheers.

Richardson is so incredibly elite it almost feels inadequate to call him that.   There’s elite every year, but AR’s only come along every 10-20 years, it in this case, perhaps never before.

I think he’s a complete Freak of Nature.  A total Unicorn!

In what way NFC? I’ve not seen any decent take, apart from the 2 min highlight reel.

  11. On a slightly different note…….this pick has given me a jolt. Since Luck retired, I have ashamedly stumbled down to a game day only fan. Obviously spoiled by years of Manning and Luck, I have been underwhelmed by the whole Rivers, Wentz and Ryan episode. I know they were stop gaps, but uninspired ones, giving out very little hope. The Richardson pick has rattled me out of my slumber, and whether it pans out or not, it has certainly rekindled my faltering passion for my Colts. Should they do a Manning and Luck, and chuck him in for Week One, even if he’s not really ready to play with the big boys? I hope they see enough in him to do so. It’s good to be back.

He rubbed me the wrong way in this one. Just unnecessarily curt and standoffish. One thing Ballard understands and quickly demonstrated is that it's valuable to have a good working relationship with the media.

So, for example, when Ballard said 'I don't want to compare QBs,' then someone asked Steichen a similar question and he answered 'like Chris said, we're not gonna compare QBs.' Then whoever asked the question clarified that they were talking about offensive approach, and Steichen goes 'yeah, I'm not gonna talk about scheme, either.' Really?

Now, Reich would just give away the gameplan, and that was annoying. But in this case, Steichen couldn't talk about what kind of advantages he sees in having a QB like Richardson, or how they think they can deploy him as he develops, or anything like that? He didn't even try to dress it up and give a coachspeak answer, either. Just shut it down, not even entertaining what I thought was actually a legitimate question. Generally, I don't care too much because I don't expect to get anything meaningful from what the coach says, but that annoyed me, and seemed borderline rude.

Maybe he’s thinking if he becomes more Belichick-esque, he may become as partially successful as ‘Ol’ Brusque’ himself?

What a game. Pittman looks so smooth and has some speech. He was so close to getting his first td. Hines had a great 24th birthday. Ty looked good in the first half but must of been limited the second. We are damn luck that happened on the Titans ST because the red zone playcalling was just bad. Think Reich will remember Hines and Pittman exist. Lol. Rivers was in total control the entire game. All has to use Harris more. That catch at the end of the first half was so good.

    Unaccustomed as I am.....

I kind of agree.  With all the hype and Investment in his talent , i do feel something was left on the table, so to speak.

I always wanted a lil more fire from him, and its ok to get mad.  He was different.  The bonehead plays out of nowhere were also frustrating.

I just didnt see the killer instinct that the great ones seem to have.

That said, he’d still be top ten QB , without much effort, if he came back.

Grigs, Pagano, Lucks injuries, etc are all part of the issues from that time.  Andrew was a talented, exciting young WB that we enjoyed for far too short of a time.  The NFL is changing fast.

What was left on the table was enough talent around him. Particularly right in front of his nose.
