  1. Andrew Luck on Colts turnover problem: "It's my problem."

Andrew Luck on Colts turnover problem: "It's my problem."

    :sigh:

Tired of the same old responses but seeing no improvement at all

He said this last week, played the same this week. When is he gonna fix the problem? And apparently get his ribs fixed?

They should bench him. Let him rest. He has played awful. I know the play calling hasn't been great either, but Luck has not been helping the team anymore than I think Hasselbeck  would(who has 2 out of our 3 wins this year in games that we controlled throughout the game). I mean, he leads the NFL in interceptions currently. He put 3 in the air tonight and fumbled. I don't get why QB is so untouchable, especially when they are already injured.

  2. Well...Last night's game was wayyyyy too flag happy against the Colts. I was at the game so I didn't see the replays but I had no idea why the refs threw 75% of the flags they did against the Colts. It doesn't excuse our play, but from my perspective they got unnecessarily hammered with flags.

  3. It's definitely a shot at Grigs.

I'm getting slightly tired of the fan perception of "draft O line in round 1! Duh!"

Look at many of the top picks over the past few years regarding O Line. They're not sure things and really most have under performed their draft pedigree. Look at Luke Jockel and Eric Fisher. Jockel is still horrid and Eric has taken a very long time to develop and he's far from being a top tier guy. As bad as many of you think we have it, we have a middle of line O Line. It's not terrible. This game was lost by pep and Luck IMO. Luck was responsible for 4 turnovers! 4! No one else's fault. No terrible tipped passes. Did he get hit? Yes. What QB doesn't at 3+ seconds in the NFL especially when facing a blitz?

I don't understand the Grigs hate.

  4. I'm talking all his * poor FA signings with every year he's had a lot of money to work with he's got a lot to of average or poor players I'd rather him pay more for less players then pay the same amount for more players but a lot less talented

Most of his FA dealings have been cap friendly. There is not some magical pool of amazing FA talent. Suh was an anomaly. They are usually either old, proven vets or unproven talent. There is a reason they are in the FA pool. So far, the only huge mistake from Grigs was the Trich trade.

  5. He's basically our 2nd round pick, traded down 4 spots to the 1st pick of the 3rd round. I said huge bust because we could literally figure it out before the season starts if he continues this pattern in preseason. The only caveat to this is that Jalil Brown is doing great and he might turn out to be the CB we wanted D'Joun Smith to be.

I would give it time. As others have already said, the cards are stacked against him.

Our receivers: Yes, all of them, are really freaking good. Bray may actually make the team. It's totally possible that he edges Brown and/or Griff out.

Smith's college tape was solid and the coaches said he really gets the game and understands it. The kind of guys that get it at a cerebral level and have the drive like he does usually come through. And if he doesn't, maybe Jalil comes through or maybe we extend Toler. Not the end of the world.

Did you watch the HoF game? Did you see Trae Waynes? Dude was terrible. 3 flags against him and looked completely out of his element and he was a high first rounder. Vikes are fine with it because he's a project. I agree with you that I expected Smith to come out a bit more polished but will reserve judgement until I see him out there during preseason.

  6.  I don`t think you really follow the league so closely.

TY is the 14th ranked Fantasy WR for 2015 on one site.  http://nesn.com/2015/08/fantasy-football-rankings-2015-top-20-wide-receivers/

And he isn`t anywhere Near being a top 10 blocker. JMO. Kind of a Homer? Hmmm!

I love FF as much as the next guy, but being ranked ahead of someone in fantasy doesn't mean you are better in real life or more valuable to a team.

Keep in mind age as well when you are thinking contracts. If you have ever played in a contract league or even a dynasty league, you would understand why Hilton is more valuable than depicted on your redraft list to a franchise due to him only being 25.

Hilton is always going to be undervalued a tad in FF due to lack of TD/RZ production. You can certainly make a case for him being top 5, although I'd probably say top 10 is more realistic.

  7. I'm mostly taking BUF & NYJ respective QB issues into consideration. They're both gonna turn the ball over to our defense, probably more than once. I don't think the Colts offense is just going to run up and down the field, especially against those defenses, but I do see them getting the ball with good to great field position on most possessions. Give Luck and that offense a short field, and it's only a matter of time before they start scoring in bunches.

Maybe the BIll's QB will. Fitzy is fairly conservative and good at preventing turnovers. Their WR core is largely improved and so is their secondary. I wouldn't discount them quite yet.

I think we will be able to beat the BIlls solidly unless they figure out what to do at QB. I don't have much faith in a dancing McCoy in Roman's system to keep the chains going.

  8. I don't fully disagree, but I also don't see the Colts putting up less than 30 against any of those teams, Bills & Jets included.

We'll see... two of the best offenses last year couldn't do it against the Bills. Actually.... No team team scored over 30 against the Bills last year.

    14 Dec 07 BUF 17 @ DEN 24 Final 76,913 Kyle Orton

    355 Yds (BUF) Juwan Thompson

    63 Yds (DEN) Sammy Watkins

    127 Yds (BUF) 15 Dec 14 GB 13 @ BUF 21 Final 70,214 Aaron Rodgers

    185 Yds (GB) Eddie Lacy

    97 Yds (GB) Randall Cobb

    96 Yds (GB)

  9. The Steelers will make the playoffs and will be a tough draw for us.

    Everyone is discounting that team.

They barely made it last year due to some career games/year by Big Ben. Their schedule is much harder this year given that they go from facing the two worst divisions to two of the better ones(NFC West and AFC West). I wouldn't be surprised at all if they don't make it. I do agree that they match up well against us though.

  10. There you go twisting the meaning of the post.  Who said anything about them? If you want to compare size, then go ahead. My point was about longevity and injury risk vs drafting a real need.

Do you have any data that shows that smaller wide receivers get injured more often or miss more games? Because that's the first I've heard of this notion.

  11. This made me more angry than I have been in years. (When it actually happened)

That was the one game I was able to go to last year. I remember just sitting there in shock as Pats fans cheered around me. There was nothing fun about that game. :(

  12. I am a big Whalen fan... Just like the guys work when he is on the field.  That being said it looks like the odds are pretty stacked against him making the final 53.  Unless he can really impress and beat out Brown I just don't know if the coaches see value in him.  I think they figure our TEs can be the slot type short yardage receivers with the wide outs having the speed... Then of course AJ being the possession receiver.

I really hope the Griffer can make it on the final 53 but I will not be surprised to see him cut at the end of the pre-season.

I think what really matters most is how many WRs we plan on holding on to:

    TY

    AJ

    Moncrief

    Dorsett

    are locked in

I'd guess that we keep 2 of Carter, Brown and Whalen and I'd wager that Carter and Brown are probably the more athletically gifted although I think GW may have the edge on SP play. I think Carter is viewed as kind of a late round rookie draft pick by us since he is so young, raw and has good metrics. I have to believe that he makes it at the moment unless he drops the ball. I think Brown is probably the better receiver but Whalen might win out due to having a cleaner injury history, familiarity, and SP play.

  13. I disagree with your use of the word objective. I also think you'd be hard pressed to find more than a handful of people that would say they would rather have 2014 TY Hilton than 2014 Calvin Johnson if cost weren't an issue.

Like for just 2014? I would've taken TY because he was healthy. :P

For funzies(and to feed your anger): If you were told that you could have either one at the same price for the next 5 years which one would you pick?

I honestly think the answer here is probably TY. He's 25 versus Johnson being 29(soon to be 30).

  14. Really not getting the Sammie Coates hype, dude stinks

One trick pony if I ever seen one

    :scorebad:

Totally agree on Coates. Although, I will point out that Big Ben made Mike Wallace post an amazing stat line when he was in Pitt. I'm not sure if Coates will even beat out Wheaton this year as a starter.

As for our competitors? It's really too early to tell... We are probably the easiest team to slate for the playoffs in the NFL, so really my biggest concern will be whomever we face there.

  15. Langford's a good D-Lineman. I will say though, I was one of the ones who didn't like the signing. Here's why. Yeah he's a good D-Lineman, but I was wanting some beast, top 10 D-Lineman in the league type. And yeah I know, cant always get that and so on, but still. But with saying all that, if Jones is as good as I think he's going to be this year, then our line may be a lot better than it was last year.

How is our O-Line NOT going to be better than last year? We lost Redding and have replaced with Langford, Mathis, Trent Cole, and Anderson. That's a hell of an overall upgrade IMO.

On topic: I'm glad he's doing well. I'm not too surprised given that he came from the leagues' most stacked D-Line. I think our D will be respected this year.

  16. I mean Werner was a bad pick from day 1. Whoever said that was right. He was a project pick when better players were available, so there goes the BPA thing. At that time anyways. But yeah I was all excited when we were on the clock hoping for Rhodes or Hopkins then we take Bjorne Werner. The thing is he's not horrible, he's going to be a good backup, good against the run, etc, but he was still a bad pick to this point anyway for a 1st round pick. You don't want 1st rounders to be good backups. We basically got an Erik Walden in the 1st round. Bash me if you want for thinking back a little, but you have to look back sometimes to keep from screwing up over and over in my opinion. And I don't think Werner's health is why he hasn't lived up to expectations. The first year yeah, but last year no. I hope he proves me wrong and is a pure freaking beast this year, but I just see him as being a good backup/rotational guy.

I have to agree with most of this. I'm not an expert but there were a few polished players that looked really good that fit needs at that pick. I was sure as many others here that we would nab Rhodes who has turned out to be Vontae Davis light for the Vikings and is continually on the rise.

Werner still has potential and I don't think he is quite a bust as he should remain a serviceable rotational player in the least even if he doesn't turn into the starter we had hoped for. To discredit someone who hasn't complained about health until now seems irrational. Why make the excuse now if he hasn't previously when he's been critiqued? I hope that he blossoms into a great player but at this point it would honestly surprise me. I hope he proves me wrong.

  17. I will start out by saying that I think he will get a contract from them down the road but he will be tagged 1 or 2 years first.

I think Seattle's current team would have been successful with any average QB in the league. Heck even a few of the backups in the league would have had a really good shot at taking that team to the playoffs.

    1) They rely HEAVILY on their defense to limit points and yards. Wilson rarely is passing from behind. Look up QB stats on playing even, ahead, and behind. The further you fall behind, the more likely you are to throw picks as it's an obvious passing situation and you have to force tight throws.

Wilson's stats to give you an idea on how big of a deal playing ahead versus behind is:

    2014:

    Ahead by 1-8 points: 113.5

    Ahead by 9-16 points: 93.7

    Ahead Rating: 102.0

    Tied: 97.5

    Behind by 1-8 points: 87.3

    Behind by 9-16 points: 80.3

Behind Rating: 85.3 (9 of his 12 picks came while playing from behind)

    2) They rely heavily on their running game/Marshawn Lynch. This makes things easier for Wilson in the passing game.

He's still a great QB but if I'm Seattle, I'm wondering if this team can thrive without him or if they can still thrive with him minus some of that defensive talent.
