If he goes anywhere, I would think it would be the Commanders.  He is from that area given his dad and the naval academy. He also has Howell who is a pretty good QB and Eric B is doing a great job.

I agree with you though that Bill has tanked his legacy without Brady. The Pats are a clown show.

    Lots of rumors out there.

Despite the name change, Washington is a pretty historic franchise.

It's pretty intriguing. Will he be fired? Traded? Leave on his own accord?

Whatever happens, I think he's done here. I'm going to the game this weekend (first one since 2009 for me) and sitting in a suite courtesy of one of my company's vendors. But in all honesty, if we were just going to be in the stands, I would probably not go. They've been beyond difficult and frustrating to watch this season. Not to mention pretty boring.

I still can't believe he essentially did the same thing as his Broncos days. I mean, he inherited a playoff caliber Raiders team and nearly killed it...

Would you consider him for taking over the Patriots once Bill is gone?

I don't think so. McDaniels is officially now "damaged goods" and has failed miserably in both opportunities he's had. The bigger issue to me is how he failed. He lost his locker rooms and did not earn the respect of his players. That's not a good sign, and it's not something that can necessarily be corrected over time since it's kind of an ingrained personality thing. Belichick's style worked for Belichick for a long time because he had the hardware to back it all up. But all the guys who've moved on... McDaniels, Patricia, Mangini have tried to emulate BB and failed (except, arguably, Mike Vrabel, who up until this season has done a solid job in Tennessee).

Some people are great in a top lieutenant-type role but not so great at being the boss. I think that's what you've got with McDaniels. You guys are probably fortunate, in hindsight, that he didn't go to Indy and destroy your team.

The poor job that Belichick has done drafting and evaluating talent over the years has definitely caught up to him on the field. When you have Tom Brady to mask weaknesses and inefficiencies, you can get away with some bad personnel decisions. The fact that Brady left and won a Super Bowl with Tampa hurts him here as well.

I feel like that's the larger problem when it comes to him going elsewhere. There's no denying his ability to coach the game and his fundamental knowledge, but his track record as a GM is pretty bad. I don't see him taking a reduced role where he's only coaching, and I don't see another organization giving him GM/HC duties. At the same time, I imagine Belichick doesn't want this to be the final chapter in his legacy, since he would be going out with the "couldn't do it without Brady" thing hanging over him.

It's amazing to me that anyone would think this kind of conspiracy could be kept under wraps.

    This. ^^^

I know my opinion is discounted since I'm a Patriots fan, LOL... but most conspiracy theories (in general, not just sports) are implausible to me because of the sheer number of people it would require to keep said conspiracy clandestine. I've spent most of my professional life managing large groups of people and I can tell you for sure that human nature goes against the concept.

No disrespect intended to you, @2006Coltsbestever. We've always gotten along just fine, but I simply can't see this the way you do.

Their system seemed to always work when Brady/ Belichick, were the constant. They could lose coaches and players yet they seemed to not really miss a beat, mistic, magic, call it what you want to. But no matter how good you are, time catches up with everyone sooner or later.

After two losses by a combined score of 79-3, I'm wondering if we've reached that time, LOL. Seriously, this is as bad as I've seen the Patriots look since the pre-Bledsoe/Parcells era.

I don't think Kraft would publicly fire him though. I think it would be something like a "mutual understanding and collaborative decision" at the end of the year, and then BB maybe takes a little time away if he plans to coach somewhere else. I'm not sure the post-Brady era could have gone any worse so far if you're BB.

  6. Tell you what... if the Patriots put up a couple of more stinkfests like yesterday, Belichick may find himself in uncharted perilous territory. His past accomplishments aside, fact is they're now 26-29, including one playoff loss, since Brady left for Tampa. Poor drafting has hurt them, yes, but every week they seem unprepared and outmatched in every way on the field. This goes beyond poor personnel management. There are grumblings around here that the game has passed him by and that he's not able to adjust his thinking to the "new" NFL.

When Brady first left I had it at about 60/40 in my mind (Brady/Belichick, in terms of who was most responsible for the team's success). I would say after 3+ seasons that it's more like 90/10. Not saying BB is a bad coach, but there are guys out there now I'd rather have.

McDaniels and Payton are too new in their roles to be in hot water just yet. It would take something off-the-field, IMO, for either of those guys to not get at least two seasons.

Eberflus should be a little nervous. The Bears look like the worst team in the NFL right now.

Staley like everyone said. Still time to right that ship though.

I would add Daboll... if things don't start picking up for the NYG. They look like they've regressed, which is never good for a coaching staff.

I really know how the atmosphere goes at home games. It's sad, times are different and more crime is happening. I love a Tyreek player but he is scum IMO I remember Tyreek incident. But it's everywhere, don't act like patriots are saints. It's happening nation wide. Use to be a few words or punches and done. Now it is stabbings and shootings after games. Just ridiculous to get that mad and harm another human being over a dang game.. smh!!

Oh I'm not, we certainly have our fair share of *! That was kind of my whole point. Doesn't matter where you are... when you get 65,000 people in the same place, there will be jerks. 😄

While I would have preferred that fans at Gillette not stooped to that level, I was just saying that Tyreek Hill is not one who should be casting stones.

I couldn't agree with you more. No one should be hurt or even killed because of a sporting event.

I guarantee you Tyreek Hill is a far, far worse human being than most people. (Unless you think it's OK to choke and punch your pregnant GF.) So I actually laughed a bit when I saw this article.

This happens at almost all NFL stadiums. Like someone pointed out... there are good people and bad people no matter where you go.

Jets fan beaten in Indy, for example. But I know that's not representative of your city or region.

Name one coach that has gone to a SB lately without a very good QB, it is just the nature of the business nowadays. Big Ben may not have been elite like a Brady or Manning but he still was a very good QB. You don't see too many runs like a Joe Flacco, that is probably the biggest exception in the last decade.

Brady bolted before the AFC got stronger with the new QBs and the NFC is just warming up now but still the top 3 QBs in the league currently, IMO, are Mahomes, Burrow and Allen in whichever order you want to rank them. Belichick made the difference on the D and ST side but as Eli Manning's SB winning squads showed, the D and ST can only keep it manageable or close but the QB has to finish it off (like Giants D keeping Patriots scoreless in 4th qtr. of SB 46, Patriots D keeping Seahawks scoreless in 4th qtr. of SB 49, keeping Falcons scoreless in 4th qtr. of SB 51, keeping Rams scoreless in 4th qtr. of SB 53 etc.).

Don't have a very good or elite QB, no SB, that is just how it is the last decade. But football is a complementary game and comebacks always mean the D does its job to give the offense the opportunities, and the QB has to finish it.

You kind of hit on a good point here... Belichick seems to gravitate toward players who are coachable, not players who possess inane talent that can't be taught. I don't mean to downgrade his entire career, but without Brady, his career numbers are pretty average at best. You probably haven't seen a lot of NE games this season but ST have been pretty awful, and the D only seems to step it up when they're playing lesser talent. They haven't beaten a "good" QB yet this year.

I think Bill is a great defensive coach but the league is about offense now

The patriots lack both offensive talent and coaching

His defensive coaching is based more on his past and his reputation at this point than what we're seeing week-to-week. The numbers and stats will always look OK, but defense is about situational play and making the big stop when you need a big stop. I think they've just let their roster go on that side of the ball, and he can't coach these guys up the way he has in the past.

  11. This image more or less sums up not only the Patriots' season, but the general state of the team now.

At least New England fans know for sure now. Not really debatable... it was Brady. It was always Brady. Belichick is almost a below average coach without him.

Part of me misses the glory days, the rivalry with you guys, etc. But I'm also aware that it'll never happen again and we should just be grateful that we had it.

    Merry Christmas to Colts Nation!

    I wouldn't be so sure.

Josh Allen and the Bills played a perfect game against Pats.

    Perfect.

    No punts.

    No FGs

    No Fumbles

They simply Scored on every possession.

They are prepared for the SB.

    IMO

They were great. But I'm wondering if getting hyped up for the Patriots results in the hangover we sometimes see teams get in their next game. I've seen it happen so many times over the years.

They are ready, I cant predict this game at all.. I love how the Bills set an NFL record when they scored 7 TD's on 7 stright drives..

but then a night later the Chiefs started slow then scored 6 straight TD drives.. these two teams are crazy lol

KC can keep up with any team on the scoreboard. They just seem to be hitting their stride at the right time, and so much of football is about energy and emotion.

Both our seasons ended on a bad note but at least you didn't lose to the Jags with everything on the line. I picked Buffalo to win but I didn't see that coming.

I thought the Bills would win pretty easily. My guess would have been something like 42-28 though, not quite as much of a throttling as it turned out to be!

The Patriots need playmakers on offense and their defense looked very, very slow for the last 4-6 weeks of the season. Indy started that, and from there on, they never quite looked the same. I think they hit a lot of easy competition during their 7-game win streak. Some good teams, but with key players out.

The Patriots are coming up on the more difficult stretch of their schedule, so we will find out just how good their defense is. But with the exception of Buffalo (5-1), they haven't played a close game all year. You play whoever is on your schedule, teams don't control that. But their defense has dominated these weaker teams. I've been a fan since the 1970s and so far this is the best defense I've ever seen in New England. That includes the units in the early 2000s that gave the Colts such big headaches.

As for the AFC East... it doesn't matter:

The Patriots are 71-19 since 2003 in the AFC East. That’s a .788 winning percentage. Outside the division, they are 118-32 (.786).

  14. The problem with this logic is that it assumes backups are all created equal.

In 2008, Cassel played himself into a multi-million dollar contract with KC and made a Pro Bowl. Garoppolo is something like 14-2 as a starter with most of those games being played as a 49er. Teddy Bridgewater is a former #1 pick with a lot of inherent talent.

Point being, none of those guys were awful, and they've all enjoyed relatively successful NFL careers.

Curtis Painter and (the corpse of) Kerry Collins are not in the same category as either of those guys as far as backups are concerned. The Colts were ill-prepared the year Manning sat, and that - more than anything - is why the team performed so poorly. It's also worth mentioning the prevailing thought outside of Indy that the Colts didn't try very hard to right the ship that year... "suck for Luck," right?

Also, FTR, the Patriots weren't 4-0 when Brady was suspended, they were 3-1. The loss was a shutout loss, at home, to Buffalo, with Brissett starting.

I'm done with the debate, personally. You guys will believe what you want to believe, and so will I. It's all good.

Like clockwork, you bring Irsay into this discussion with this..."The best part of this is how you guys assume Irsay is above this kind of thing."

First YOU generalize us all, by saying you guys,....and how is this any different than the above bolded statement? Next sentence, you use a facetious approach to insult those posting in this thread. That is why is was....and still is, an epic fail.

Frankly, I find that fans trying to bandy opinions with opposing teams fans on their own boards to be an indicator of insecurities. I could be wrong, but I have never seen a fan base in ANY sport that works as hard to travel the internet message board globe, working to correct other teams fans as to how they should view the Patriots/players/coaches/owners.

    Frankly, it absolutely amazes me.

Yes I'm here because of my psychological insecurities. You nailed it. I mean "clockwork" is a bit of a stretch, since I don't bother posting here anymore because of the ridiculous nature of this board as it relates to the Patriots, but whatever. If it helps you sleep better at night, go with that.

I've been personally attacked more times than I can account for, so I won't apologize. The people who knew me 10 years ago on this board know who I am. The rest of you are fair weather, Johnny-come-lately fans whose opinions are meaningless to me.

    Haha, nothing passive-aggressive here.

The funny thing is, Colts fans have basically created what I am at this point. I'm tired of being judged as a human being based on my football rooting interests. I started off being a more balanced and objective fan. Tried to be respectful, tried to be reasonable. But... the overall hostility and nastiness I've received in return has made me realize that being a "nice guy" means nothing to you people.

You are, in general, a bunch of sore losers, and that's all there is to it. Maybe someday your franchise will rise to greater heights. Maybe not. But if it doesn't...

I'd say you guys are getting exactly what you deserve, based on the petty, nonsensical reaction most of us have seen here over the years. The crazy thing is that I once respected Indy as a rival. Now? You guys are a sad bunch trying to vindicate your underachieving franchise. Way to go.

PS - Even if you're joking, the idea of the Patriots getting "inside info" from Inman is laughable. It has literally been a decade since the Patriots lost a game to the Colts. I can only hope those posters who mentioned it were being sarcastic. You haven't been a true threat in the AFC in over a decade. Sorry. Truth hurts, I'm sure.
