For some reason I think many here see Ballard as this calm, collected savant of a GM.  And he may turn out to be that...but as of now there is nothing, NOTHING to indicate that's who he is.

What has he done that is so great?

Signed some middle of the road FA's last year that some turned out ok on, some didn't.  Nothing outstanding.

His first draft?  Mediocre at best.  At best.  Nothing outstanding.

He went into the season advocating Scott Tolzein as the starting QB.  Scott freaking Tolzein.  IF that is not an indicator of how he fails to evaluate talent, I don't know what does.  And it wasn't even close.  He was the starting Qb from spring practice on and it did not matter how well anyone else did in training camp.  That is not good GMing.

He bungled the McDaniels hire all to hell.  Not even bungled.  He absolutely destroyed it.

Besides that?  What?  He traded a 3 string qb for a started TE.  But from what I understand, it was the Pats who initiated talks for that. Not Ballard.

He failed to sign any real difference makers last year other than I guess Hankins.  Who is good.  This year already we are missing out on the top talent.  You add in Robinson Norwell and to this lineup and all of a sudden, when adding in the draft, a healthy Luck, and the rest of the FA signings?  That is something to get excited about.  But obviously Ballard has no intention of gambling whatsoever.

It is not "All hail" for me yet. Ballard did bungle/misread the McDaniels hire. He also misread the talent of the young offensive linemen left over from Grigson. Banner was a clear whiff. I have more concerns than most wrt Quincy Wilson's healthy inactive string. Much is unknown about that. Stewart and Walker Jr are question marks IMHO. Basham too. Grigson had a better first draft.

I won't pretend to know who most assistant coaches and position coaches are, or how good they are at their jobs. But it seems like this staff has a lot of guys who are relatively new to their positions on our staff. QC coaches becoming position coaches, TE coaches becoming OL coaches, OL coaches becoming TE coaches, etc.

They didn't go out and hire a bunch of guys who have a ton of NFL or even collegiate experience coaching a group of players, and plug them in to coach that group of players. Some exceptions (like Mike Phair and Alan Williams), but for the most part, this staff is learning new job responsibilities in 2018. It's not a rock star staff like I was hoping it would be.

Maybe it turns out to be. I'm not ruling that possibility out. There's definitely potential, IMO.

Even the coordinators are first timers, across the board. But I'm fine with the coordinators: Reich is going to run the offense and it will be a collaboration; Eberflus was as close to a coordinator as you can get in Dallas, and seems primed and ready for the job; and Ventrone has really good experience on STs.

Like you, I think there's a definite possibility that there will be some changes to the staff before long.

I have the same concerns as you. Let's face it, Reich was the last pig to the assistants trough due to the McDaniels fiasco. IMO, in some cases, he was left looking under rocks and having to promise promotions instead of lateral moves to entice assistants so late in the game.

Like you, I expect changes in the staff next year. Not the coordinators, but some of the others, to get better candidates for some of the roles.

Yea, I’d say forget Eifert and you’d save 5 million there...I am okay with a Doyle/ Swoope combo

I agree. Doyle/Swoope/Travis should work. Eifert will probably get injured again, just guessing. We have so very many holes in our roster. I wouldn't make TE a priority this year.

My only other comment about the OP's choice is that I'm not a fan of Nick Chubb's after watching the Bama game. I don't agree that his vision is that good. Michel far outplayed him.

It's not lost, but if you post something ridiculous, you don't really get to control the response.  that's particularly when they say your post is ridiculous after you've admitted as such.  Joke or not, that should not be lost on you, and if it is, glad you chose us for your first trip on the internet.

Thank you. I appreciate who you are. Kindness is not always welcome on this board.

Here I am! Crucify me if you will!

I did . It's just stupid even if it was unrealistic and hypothetical. Why post it.

I just felt it. I felt it. Like I said in my thread there are many who have very different views of what this board should be. X's and O's, scouting reports by NFL, by amateurs? There is no consensus on this board.Have you even read 75% of the posts on this board.?  I have gotten a great deal of ad hominem posts from this fictional post of mine.

Yet, there are those who propose to exclude me for putting forward any idea as a Colts fan even though I do it with full tongue in cheek. Is that lost in human culture? A shame.

Sorry to pile on here Buddy but maybe if you had titled the thread differently... this could have been avoided. I am all for unrealistic scenarios but i mean come on. You had to have known this was a possible outcome. It is the internet and people behave differently when behind a keyboard. Try not to take offense to the barbs and jokes...

The Colts news was so depressing. So my headline was intended to make it aggressive and positive. It was all about Colts fans to get out of the doldrums and become aggressive.

How about Jacksonville trade is their defense for the next 8 picks and we dominate the Pats? Why would we want to make our division better? Such weird thinking! It might not happen this year but we will get NE back...don’t worry.

Clearly, you have not my posts on this thread which explain.

  9. What I have learned...

I haven't initiated but a few threads. Even though I strongly put forward that this wasn't an actual proposition only a possible knife in the back to Kraft and the Pats. I have seen many, many such things on this board over the many years. I clearly stated that it was just a near-term rant. Not a serious proposal. It is beyond the realm of the hatred that I have received from board members who clearly never read my original OP, but just spewed on top of others spewing. Bad news!

This picture was the exact face all Colts fans made when they stumbled thru this thread. BTW Buddy Lee, We all get sarcasm as much as anybody else, just let me know when you say something funny. Thanks.

Even Chewbacca is like just stop before you say something so absurd Mr. Lee that nobody ever takes you seriously again. I know; I know. It was a long season & our brains aren't in peak conditioning mode after the SB Buddy. It's alright. I forgive you. It happens to the best of us from time to time. Carry on.

You know, I am so very, very tired of these ad hominem attacks. I prefaced my OP as a fantasy and my subject line clearly shows that it is us/me against Kraft. I guess that isn't enough for you.

I forgive you too. I have never attacked anyone with an opinion. Certainly not on this board where an entire range of opinions are expressed. Mine wasn't even an opinion. Just feeling stabbed in the back. My feelings disparaged.

Get lost. If you even bothered to read the original post, which apparently you did not, you would have known it is a rant and not a serious proposal. Read. It will change your opinion.

Pats will keep winning until BB leaves or retires. When that happens, they'll be the Browns... No need to sabotage, just build a better team than them and wait.

We trade Luck to Jax, they beat up on us for 10 years... In that scenario, who cares about the Patriots? We have to play Jax twice a year. I'm not in board with trading Luck (most aren't, I'd say), but if we do, it can't be to Jacksonville... Those 1st rounders would all be bottom 5 picks....

I agree but not for ten years 5. 6. 7 years but it fulfills CB's "rivalry is back on". I guess this board is not willing to accept anything halfway tongue in cheek.  Just expressing a way to get back at Kraft.

Yeah I gotcha. I didn’t take it seriously. We’re in the s**tpost time of year and a lot of people seem to be at each other’s throats over the last week. Even when someone proposes a legit bad idea I still don’t like to see half the forum pile on them over it, not that your op was a legit proposal.

It wasn't. I was just reacting to the Pats burn. I normally post on x's and o's or on Barkley who I followed closely for years and knew that I know more than most on this board.

I have described this thread as a rant. I was clear. You have clearly taken it for what it is. Thank you for that.

  15. 1 hour ago, The Peytonator said:

I mean, I don’t pretend to know what Luck’s trade value is, and I know it’s not that, but since we’re playing hypotheticals I would definitely take that trade and draft Mayfield.

    Hey, Peytonator,

I put this out as more or less a rant about Kraft and BB and not an actual trade I propose. Just a "get back". I have trade value charts but they don't go that far into the future. I think Kraft and the Pats handled this very unfairly to both Jm and the Colts. This was only my fantasy dagger.

I value your non knee-jerk reaction. My original thread said this was not an actual proposal.

I am sorry to inform you but this thread is silly. Call it want you want but it changes nothing.

I am sorry to inform you that none of any of our posts change anything. There have been many polls. Thousands of respondents: Keep or fire Pagano? The board was clear. Did Irsay or the GM care one whit? No.  If you think your posts do change things or any of this on the message board, get real. You have singled me out but of course I'm sure you have expressed your same opinion to every other member of this board. I am but one of the multitude.

There are sophisticated analyses, opinions and rants and whatever on this board. I have initiated or chimed in on topics in all these areas. I will guarantee you that everyone on this board has at least a slightly different idea about this board...what it is, what it should be, who should be included, who should be excluded. Frankly, I have seen a wide range of analysis, rants, opinions.

I accept what I perceive is your opinion on what this board should be. It shouldn't be silly. Thank you.

    LOL.

I know it's difficult to follow. I think that is because some on this board have no sense of levity. I can do x's and o's, but there are many on this board who aren't into that. The topic of the day is JM. That is a business/ethical thing. Not an E-P vs.Coryell thing.

So some, the very serious, will come at this thread as though I really want this to happen. Maybe 8 future number ones is this many points vs. Luck is this many points on my chart in front of me. We should also ask for a 3rd in 2019.

I get that. I have those same charts. But that is not that t all.

Others will see it for what it is:

This is an emotional response on my part. It isn't the analytical side of me. Let criticism fly.
