Love the thought ....since I have been saying that since Manning (GOAT) was cut- try explaining that to your grandchildren and hope they don't google his stats (post-Colts)
the fact that about 90% of the human population still thinks it was the right move.....no comment
ps- I felt that way even though at the time, I was convinced Luck would finish his career as the best QB of all-time, based on his first 5 years and the lack of consistent improvement, that seems to be a very unlikely scenario

One of the best posts I have ever seen on here

I wont get into the Manning debate anymore, been there done that about 1,000 times and about 998 of them agree with you.
When I saw Hackenburg as a freshman, I thought he had the chance of being great in the NFL and just because he has been struggling hasn't changed my opinion too much
When Luck was drafted I made it known I think he will retire as the best QB in NFL history ( and for the record still would not have dumped Manning and drafted Luck) you can it a mini slump and that well could be, but what I have seen this year is a QB who , without the hype , may not be an NFL starter (based on his production) but much like Hackenburg as a freshman- you either have it or you don't and if you do, it doesn't dissapear.
I will admit I am 100% biased....a PSU QB or a Stanford grad..................PSU, all day-everyday
-
Always enjoy having a chance to vent.....since I will always believe dumping a Hall of fame QB to the curb, was one of the un-classiest moves in the history of any sport and have to add, anybody is who sees it any different is kidding themselves and don't care to debate that any further....and move on to the subject at hand....I was born 30 minutes outside the PSU campus and watched Hackenburg light it up as a freshman and was thinking, he may be better than Luck- then watched him not look very good, since, for various reasons and wonder , how good will he be in the NFL....have to go backtrack to make a point, if the Colts had kept #18 and the roughly everybody on the team that was rated higher than a backup and played it out, instead of dumping all of them to that same curb and not drafted Luck, then we would be looking for the next great QB (in the 2016 draft) and as "luck" would have it, Hackenburg would be sitting there, late in the first round when our selection came up, based on the great success we had by keeping the team together and I would be elated-since any knowledgable football fan knows, having a nittany lion on your roster is the key to sucess (just another in a long line of mistakes made by the current GM) and how does the story go...the rest is history...................time will tell how good Hackenburg can and will be in the pros, but he looked great as a freshman and I don't think great players, forget how to be great....there was another PA QB, who struggled at the end of his college career and lasted until the last pick in the first round and had a decent NFL career, I think his name was Marino.

My gut tells me you are right. It will be interesting to see what he does with that team. I never watched them before so I'll rely on people here to point out how Manning is making a difference.
Health wise, I think he will be fine........he says he is........broncos think he is. So I think that must be all good.
Swami sez, MVP yes
for the past year, he has heard........can he play? is he healthy? can he throw? does he still have it? ...then he gets cut by a team he had planned to spend the rest of his career with.............I guess that could be called, a mission. He has one goal this year, to show everyone who had any doubts, that the answers to those questions is...........I guess you all didn't know me very well. Don't ever tell a player like Manning, he can't .....................
-
What's different this year for #18, nothing...except, he will be paying with a chip on his shoulder, if anybody knows Peyton, that is bad news for the other 31 teams..............he is on a mission...............almost hard to even imagine, he will take his game...........up-another level-I guarantee it!

I went with the best player on the board (Hightower) at that time, I think there are more pressing needs than LB, but we need help everywhere, I also think there are going to be some players who slip down and out of the first round, then we will have a chance to get one of them in the 2nd round

Really? I was thinking the best thing to do for the Patriots was release TB, and run for a Super Bowl in a couple years. Not try and build what you have now. Silly Patriots.
Talk about hitting the nail, square on the head!!!! some owners get it.............some don't
-
For all of the fans onboard with the rebuild, take a look at last years roster and compare it to the roster of the team that played in the Super Bowl a few years ago, it's pretty much the same players, the difference is they were injured last year, can't anyone distinguish between a team with health issues and a team that lacks talent? There were not many holes on this team ( youth is not a hole) and even if there were, for argument sake, all of them could have been filled and then some , by keeping Peyton ( which should have been a no brainer decision) instead of the letting him go ( which was a no brain decision)............don't fill the holes and draft 1 player
-
I always try to see the logic in any decision, but been coming up empty......Addai, Gonzo, Garcon, Clark, Tamme (?) Collie ( past issues) ........Have to have someone to throw the ball to......Think the Colts's wanted Garcon, he was offered a contract first and the feeling wasn't mutual, Reggie was plan B and a move they made out of desperation............not understanding it from Reggies's perspective, by the time this team has a winning record , Reggie will be gone???
-
Most first round picks are starters from day #1 and when we are talking high draft picks ( at the top of the round) there isn't going to be any ..time to develope. Any team in this league would instantly become winners, with that many high picks. People think having the chance to draft Luck is a miracle............passing up the chance to become very good right away...........defies brain activity. How many Qb's currenlty playing in the NFL are good enough to take a team to the Super Bowl? At least 10, but some want to think that the only one that can do it, has to be picked #1 overall and pass up a major upgrading of the team.............that defies and kind of logical thinking
-
There will be...............at least...........a half dozen Qb's available the next 1-3 years, that can lead a great team to the promised land and they won't be rquired, to be drafted #1 overall..this just in...........the world and the future doesn't revolve around 1 player.
-
I have been trying to give Irsay the benefit of the doubt, but everyday that passes, that's getting harder to do. I really don't see any way of Peyton Manning being a part of the plan...........you don't draft a QB #1 overall, to sit on the bench.......that makes no sense..........Peyton has 4 years left on his contract................do the math
Chubb or Barkley at #3?

Just sharing some stats, I felt the way many do, the only way to get an elite pass rusher was to draft them at the top of the draft and in response to the many posts about- you can get a really good RB-later in the draft, although great ones-later in the draft-not as likely.
the top 10 sack leaders this year:
Chandler Jones- drafted #21 overall
Calais Campbell- 2nd rd,#50
Demarcus Lawrence- 2nd rd,#34
Everson Griffen-4th rd, #100
Cameron Jordan-#24 overall
Ryan Kerrigan-#16 overall
Joey Bosa- #3 overall
Cameron Heyward-31st overall
Ezikeal Ansah- #5 overall
Yannick Ngakoue- 3rd rd,#69
2 out of 10 picked in the first half of the first round
Dwight Freeney-11th overall
Robert Mathis- 5th rd, #138
Maaaaaaaaybe, you don't have to get an edge rusher in the top 5-10, of the draft, maaaaaaaaaybe, whats more important is having a great scouting department, that can find talent.
