Knowing what we know right now, I don’t think people saying they would’ve liked for us to get Stroud over AR is unreasonable. Why do you?

    Stroud is legit.

Still doesn’t mean people won’t cheer for AR. I know I will.

Exactly. I wanted Stroud over AR. And I really don't like running QBs, but I will cheer for AR over every other QB every Sunday as long he is playing on the Colts. I hope he is a franchise QB and I absolutely see the potential. Let's hope the potential is realized.

I am a little bummed by the Texans success so far, though.

I'm curious about this. From your perspective, what are you seeing/hearing that you would classify as "praise"?

From my perspective, many fans praise him; far more than the amount of fans that criticize him. Media praises him, Colts twitter influencers praise him, Colts reddit also praises him; if you criticize him, you'll usually get down voted.

Of course he has his critics. I just feel they're the vocal minority.

Also, some don't look at the results to assess the job of a GM but the process, which they tend to think he adheres to well and that it is a successful one.

The praise usually comes in the form of how great of a drafter he is. And it's often repeated that he would immediately be hired by another team if he was fired.

  3. I can't help but feel Ballard's charisma is his greatest asset; it gives him a huge leash with not only the media but the fans. Not to say he has little to no merit as a GM — he definitely does —  but I have never seen a GM liked and praised so much after accomplishing just so little.

This year my interest in the Colts was quite low compared to the last five seasons (even compared to last season, which was entertaining with all of the twists and turns, despite losing.) I actually forgot about watching the Raiders game; I have never just not at least turned a Colts game on. But hearing this guy talk about the Colts at the end of each season kind of makes me feel like everything is all good about the team and reels me back in no matter how I felt during the season.

Charisma is such a super power.

Five times on that possession, we had been stopped for 2, 1, 0, or -1 yards. Saying 'we were running all over them' isn't acknowledging how limited the run game had become at that point in the game.

    Taylor was obviously in pain.

The Texans had five down linemen on 4th down.

We can come up with all these different possibilities for how to get a first down there. None of them are guaranteed, partly because they all rely on the execution of the players on the field. Just like Minshew didn't make a good pass, and Goodson didn't catch it, if you call a run play, the OL might miss an assignment. Maybe the handoff is sloppy, or JT slips trying to cut through the hole. Maybe we have a holding penalty.

Steichen called a play that resulted in a wide open receiver. The players on the field needed to execute. It wasn't a trick play, they didn't go tackle eligible, there's no high bar to clear, or significantly smaller margin for error. They didn't put anyone in a tough situation or ask anyone to do something that isn't part of their normal responsibility. It's a routine play, which got a capable receiver open. Minshew's job is to throw the ball, and he smoked the throw; part of Goodson's job is to catch the ball, and he smoked the catch.

Like Steichen said, they got the look they wanted, and it didn't work out, but they trust whoever they put on the field to make a play. In other words, players have to execute. That would be just as true if they tried to run JT into a defense that was focused on stopping the run.

I don't understand why this even needs to be explained to anyone or why there is any controversy surrounding the play. It was simply an execution problem.
