As much as I dislike the Steelers I don't like a player taking the attitude he has taken.

I kind of pass some of the blame on Tomlin. He overlooked ABs issues just because of ABs talent. Tomlin should have sit him down for a few games earlier when AB took the attitude he was the franchise.

Any player who takes the attitude of he makes his own rules has no place on a team no matter his talent level IMO.

I agree with most of your thoughts, but I would say blame starts with Tomlin allowing Ben to control things. Benching Brown (who I have no respect for), would just continue to enable Ben to be the * he is.

I agree with both of these. Tomlin should have controlled this early on with both Ben and Brown.  Brown is the one taking all of the public flak here because he's been immature, but he's never really been cited as a bad teammate (with one exception that I'm aware of). Most teammates say he's pretty good to be around and works hard. I suspect if Tomlin had addressed the Ben issue early this wouldn't have gotten to this point. It's pretty rare for players on winning teams to be at each others throats this much barring something pretty egregious.

  2. It really is interesting. He seems to have found a way, as a player, to steal almost all of the leverage in his trade talks. He has forced the Steelers to either pay him a load of money or trade him. He's derailing trades to teams he doesn't like through threats of retirement.

He's either getting paid by the Steelers, getting paid a mountain of money by another team (maybe a crappy team), or getting traded to a team he really wants.

I don't necessarily like all of his antics, but it is a little fun to see him stick it to the Steelers.

I didnt see this one coming at all. Looks like the Steelers gave AB a big kick in his rear out the door to the Bills.

The Steelers play the Bills next season. I suspect he will be looking to repay that kick. They might find out the hard way what it's like to play against AB instead of with him.

  4. Pass rush, WR, and CB with our first three picks. Not necessarily in that order although I would like pass rush first. I don't know much about the safeties in this draft, but I think that could be a need as well. Geathers and Hooker just aren't reliable enough.

Or A.J. Brown. Metcalf is the prototypical big X receiver. Brown is a big slot and nuanced route runner. Doesn’t have the upside of Metcalf but with Luck he’d be a beast.

I'm on board with drafting either of those guys AND bringing in Tyrell Williams. That would give us some long-term security assuming the WR panned out and Tyrell doesn't flame out for some reason.

I just have an issue with people saying fans don't know anything when just about everyone here was angry about the Dorsett pick.

We're not at that point yet though.

And obviously outside of the 1st and early 2nd rounds, most fans don't know these guys.

I think the Dorsett pick was just so surprising. We literally needed just about every position other than WR (and QB).

Castonzo, Nelson, and Kelly we’ve already invested enough high end picks on the line. O and Mewhort is coming back too.  A new OC should also do wonders since Chuck was super predictable.

I'm fine overinvesting in the Oline, especially since, like you said, the AFC is loaded on defense. Imagine what it will be like once we can stop worrying about Luck's health for the next five years and start focusing on the rest of the team.

  8. I think this mock goes to show that no matter what we do we're still going to have some big holes: OG, OT, RB, WR, LB, DE, DT, CB. We need almost everything except S (assuming the good health of Hooker and Geathers), QB (again, assuming a healthy Luck), and C (Kelly...health again). Oh yeah, and K. We're good there until AV decides to hang it up. We're going to have holes.

    I'm conservative on comparisons....

I scoffed when JShipp started comparing Barkley to Bo Jackson and Barry Sanders.

And I don't buy the Ridley has a ceiling of Marvin Harrison talk either.     If you want to say they have similar styles or their built the same way,  that's one thing.

But to say Ridley has the ceiling of Marvin Harrison is quite another.     I'm just never comfortable with that....

I was typing pretty much this same response so I'll just go with yours.

I made no mention of Alabama or stats or anything else.    Not a word.   Just that he's the best of a bad class...

And did you say Marvin Harrison?

Hall of Famer, Marvin Harrison?   That guy?    I know if no one else who thinks that, or thinks he could be half as good.

Goodness...   I don't know where you came up with that one?

NFL.com's draft profile has it as his comp! I don't think I've seen a more exaggerated comp. Barkley comped to Barry isn't even as galling.

I am not writing Ridley off. His ceiling is Marvin Harrison. He has that kind of ability. It’s a long way up there though.

Never fall into the trap of using Alabama pass catchers stats to determine their draft value. It would be a mistake.

I'm not writing him off in that I don't think he will succeed. I think he has a good skill set, but I definitely agree with NCF that he is FAR closer to "career WR2" than Marvin Harrison.

We'll just have to disagree on the Davis/Williams vs Ridley discussion. Davis has everything: size, speed, hands. Williams is a little closer, but I still think most teams would draft him higher. People don't even agree this year if Ridley is a better prospect than Sutton (I go Ridley), and he's a project.  I agree he's over Ross though. The Bengals just got excited over something shiny.

It’s  possible. I had him going to Chicago in my first 2 mocks and then dropped him to Baltimore in my last mock

Most people didn’t think receivers would be taken high last year either, and they were surprised when it happened.

Ridley is this years best WR. That said, there are several receivers in this draft that I like. I don’t think we will take Ridley at No 6 overall, but he is in the conversation now, whereas he was not at No. 3 overall.

I agree that it's possible, but it's very unlikely. Ridley isn't near the prospect that Corey Davis or Mike Williams was. Ross got over drafted because of that record breaking speed and...Bengals. There is barely a 1st round WR in this draft. I would be exceptionally disappointed if we went WR.

  13. Is there a benefit to dropping a solid to very good player rather than attempting to trade him? It looks like we saved a little money by doing it today, but we're not exactly hurting for cash. Also, will this count towards compensatory picks next year?

    Agreed, but...

Guice over Michel or Chubb please.

Agree, but...Guice over Chubb over Michel over Penny.

I actually like all four, but I feel like Penny will still be around in the 3rd.

  15. All I really care about this offseason is getting Andrew Luck protection. I don't care about winning this year because that's just not very realistic. I want our franchise QB, the supposed heir apparent to Manning/Brady greatness, to be given the opportunity to succeed and not have to worry about a career ending/altering injury. If we do nothing to address this then I say the blame is on Ballard, and the team needs to address whether he clings to his philosophy, which I generally agree with, to a fault.
