  1. Look, I've been a supporter of Jacoby's and have given him the benefit of the doubt all season. But these are the games that you need your QB to step up and make a play.

Yes, there were drops. Yes, TY was barely playing. Yes, we need more help at WR. But... to have only 4 completions to your receivers, against this banged up secondary is unacceptable.

    So the story is either:

    1. Our receivers are so bad that they were literally covered all game and couldn't make a single play.

    2. Jacoby wasnt willing or able to throw the ball.

It's likely a mixture of both. But still, to average 160ish passing yards in 2019 is unacceptable. With this offensive line, these TEs and RBs...all I know is Andrew dealt with trash at virtually every position and made it happen. Jacoby is a great a backup, but hes not a game-changing playmaker outside of his escapeability. When it comes to reading defenses or getting into the correct playcall or throwing a receiver open, that's not his strong suit.

I love Jacoby the person. I'm thankful to have him as a Colt. But this game made my decision. It's clear to me now, we need to draft a new Quarterback.

I'm not one to hit the panic button.......

The info on Lucks shoulder for many months was PR.... and not true..... it was worse than they were saying

I'm not saying the sky is falling, but this was 'nothing to worry about" less than 2 months ago

To say people are "disrespectful" to have questions seems a bit much......

Hoping Sir Andrew gets healthy and throwing quickly...... timing is everything, and SD is coming up fast....

The disrespect was someone here calling him soft, not people worrying about him.

Sounds like something we heard before from the Colts ... He will be ready for the start of the season,... make that by game 4.... make that after the off week.... he's out for the year....   How long do you wait until they simply tell the truth, the facts...

This is incorrectly represented though. The way you're speaking is as if they mislead us. That was never the case. The problem simply was Andrew's shoulder never healed the way it was supposed to throughout the process. Lets not act like Ballard is a liar in any way, we all know hes not.

My excitement for the season is going away. He might start the season but we are going to be so out of sync on offense. Maybe Brissett needs to start the season.

He is either injured worse or he is becoming soft and is way to worried about injuries. Or it is something else entirely.

And, uh, where exactly did anyone call him soft or suggest someone else should start over him in this thread exactly?

You could be honest about it kind sir.
If he hadn't missed THE WHOLE OFF-SEASON with this SAME concern, this wouldn't be any big deal. Andrew is WAY behind in his reps. PERIOD!
And Today we might wonder if he will be ready for the start of the season.
As we Roll our eyes wondering why this leg hasn't healed already.
Yes it is what it is, next man up, and i like Jacoby getting a chance to improve.
But our high hopes are being tested with this strangely lingering leg problem.

Again, I'm not saying you have no reason to worry.

But being behind on training camp reps is not a reason to bench one the best QBs in the game. Being behind on training camp reps isnt a reason to insult him and call him soft. Being behind on training camp reps isnt going to ruin this season.

Take some advice from Aaron Rodgers and RELAX.

Until we hear it's more severe, it doesn't seem like a major problem.

How dare we be concerned about our franchise QB who has had lingering issues since May. skip1.png

    Being concerned is fine.

Calling this dude soft and suggesting we start someone else over him is COMPLETE LUNACY.

  7. Ok guys, sorry this is a bit late, but I had a bunch of running around to do after practice. Colts.com and Kevin Bowen have great recaps of the major events from practice, so I'll try to add some things that I personally noticed.

    1. There was hardly any rotation at all with the offensive starters today.

-With Hilton and Doyle out, the 1st team skill positions were almost exclusively Funchess, Ebron, Chester, and Pascal. I saw Campbell take maybe 1 rep with 1's on an RPO with Hines as a lead blocker for Campbell, and I didn't see Cain take any at all.

As a matter of fact, Cain was basically in the 3rd rotation of receivers today. After the 1's, the next unit was Marcus Johnson, Fountain, and Campbell.

Rotation 3 was Cain, Fountain, and, Hogan.

Ashton Dulin got some run with the 2's as well, in place of Fountain.

    2. Depth players continue to shine.

    - Although Cain didn't get any reps with the 1's, he made the most of the targets he did get, whether that be in team drills or during 1 on 1's. He had 2 impressive catches and continues to stand out.

Ashton Dulin and Marcus Johnson had some nice plays today as well. There were some good runs by Williams and Wilkins. But to me, the offensive stars today were the Tight Ends.

Ebron just looks...better...I dont know how to describe it, but he seems more confident and somewhat more explosive.

I think the coaching staff is going to pull their hair out trying to choose the other TE's to keep beyond Ebron and Doyle, though. Ross Travis, Hale Hentges, and Mo Allie-Cox all looked impressive today. This could be a group we see someone we dont initially expect on the 53.

    3. Solid contributions from the rookies.

    - Campbell made some good plays on offense,  even though he had his issues on special teams as reported. I wouldnt be surprised if they remove him from punt returns like they did with Hines last preseason, but it may be too soon to go that far.

Rock allowed some catches but played tight all day, even had a good break up against Funchess. Later, he stopped an outside run play for no gain with a great read and pretty perfect body placement.

EJ Speed snuffed out a run play that would have been a TFL by about 3 or 4 yards.

Khari Willis had an INT during 1 on 1's that was very impressive, both athletically and instinctually.

    4. Other random observations.

    - During 1 on 1's Autry got the better of Nelson twice today, once completely knocking him backwards with a big thud. These 2 playing against eachother every day is going to make them 10x better.

    - Quincy had a near INT, but ran into a teammate and lost control of the ball.

    - Le'Raven Clark looked pretty good at LT during 1 on 1's. He did get beat by Houston once, but held his own much of the day.

    - I thought Boehm stood out during 1 on 1's. He moved into the 2nd team offensive line today, after being 3rd string the last couple days, however, that was at RG, not center. He was still the 3rd string center as well.

    - Hairston had a pick he dropped, and got called on a pass interference penalty on a beautiful leaping catch from Ashton Dulin.

    - I saw Phillips be impactful a few times today. Would be sacks, pressures, stopping outside runs, he had a good day.

    5. Lastly, I think Funchess could be the real deal.

    - I'm not gonna lie, I wasn't exactly thrilled when I heard about his signing initially. My optimism grew when I heard Frank glow about him, because I trust his judgment. But seeing him in person today really solidified him as a good signing in my eyes. Strong hands, fights for the ball, gets open.. there's a lot to like here. He definitely feels like he could be the #2 we've been dreaming of for years.

Tomorrow, what I'll be looking at:

I believe the maintenance guys will be back, but I want to see if Campbell or Cain can get any more 1st team reps. Same with Collims and Rock on defense. Curious to see what's happening at SS with Odum and Geathers.

Hope this was helpful. Enjoy day 4 tomorrow.

It might be just me, but with Cain & Fountain coming hard for their 2nd training camp, and now adding Campbell in the draft and having added Funchess in free agency, I am not so sure that Rogers’ spot on the roster is as assured as a lot of people seem to be saying.   Time shall tell and it’s going to be a very interesting training camp for the receiver crew.

The battle for all of the WR spots outside of Hilton's is gonna be CRAZY.

Campbell, Cain, and Funchess will all be battling for 2-4, and I can see that being a really intense competition for playing time.

But even the final spot or two, those battles will be really close as well. Chester, Pascal, Hogan, Johnson, Hart, and Dulin.... man...that's a BOAT LOAD of talent all competing for 1 or 2 spots....

    I can't wait for camp!

  9. Day 2 Haul
    -CB Rock Ya-Sin
    -LB Ben Banogu
    -WR Parris Campbell
    -LB Bobby Okereke
    -2020 2nd Round Pick
    -2019 5th Round pick

My instant reaction is that I feel like this tells us something very valuable about the roster...

They BELIEVE in the development and advancement of Turay and Lewis. I thought for sure the one position we'd address was DL, and I thought we'd do it twice. My original mock was Tillery/Winovich in the 1st/early 2nd. But Kevin Bowen mentioned an interview that Ballard did predraft with Matt Taylor, where he asked his scouts where Turay and Lewis would rank in THIS class, and the scouts said that both guys would be "right there with these guys" (which I assume means they'd be in that early day 2, late day 1 range). So, that comment, along with passing on numerous DL prospects, is plenty of evidence to show that they expect these guys to start, and they dont want to replace them or add anybody who would take away from their reps in a significant way. That's a positive sign IMO.

Not gonna lie, I wasn't as high on Campbell as most. I LOVED JJAW, and hated seeing him go to Philly. Seeing AJ go to Tennessee was also really unfortunate. BUT, hearing Ballard and Reich praise him, their excitement calmed me. I trust them wholeheartedly, I just really loved JJAW, Deebo, and Brown. Passing on Metcalf was a bit disappointing as well. But again, in Ballard I trust.

I didnt do a ton of research on corners this year, but I guess it was prudent that we grabbed one. The competition in that room is gonna be fun to watch this year. I am glad to add a corner that played so much man coverage. That'll be helpful

Read an amazing article on Ben Banogu. You should absolutely read it.

In it, he basically says he knows he's super raw as a pass rusher, because TCU taught scheme and not technique. He says he feels like if he gets under a pass rush specialist (cough Mathis cough) he can take his game to a new level. An elite athlete with incredible upside, that can develop behind Houston, Sheard, Turay, etc. I am a little confused by the fact that we plan on playing him at SAM, but again, trusting the staff on this one.

And for Okereke, again, shocked to go with ANOTHER LB. I love the player, but man I wasnt expecting that. On paper, it makes sense. LB was probably our thinnest position on the team behind Leonard and Walker. But, Bobby seems awesome.

    With the remaining picks, 2 4ths, 2 5ths a 6th and a 7th, I'm curious to see where we add.

My guess would be OL, maybe a late RB, maybe another WR, probably some DL fliers. Most of the late TE's I wanted are gone unfortunately.

Tons of talent still on the board.

    Hakeem Butler
    Stanley Morgan Jr.
    Rodney Anderson
    Alize Mack
    Tons of corners and safeties.

Kinda hope we trade up in the 4th.

My thought process goes like this - our only legit high level receiver we had last year was TY Hilton. Hilton is great and he's versatile... which means he had snaps from different formation and from different WR positions. No other receiver should come in the consideration about what type of receiver we need or should draft. None of them are good enough and/or established enough to make us pass on a great receiver in favor of lesser one. We just need playmakers... from anywhere we can get them.

Receivers very rarely are one trick ponies nowadays. They will line up in different positions around Hilton. The goal should be making teams doubling TY pay by either extending the field vertically with a second speedster that can win down the field(Holywood Brown, Andy Isabella, Terry McLaurin, Mecole Hardman, etc)... or with a YAC receiver that can make plays after the catch(Parris Campbell, Deebo Samuel, AJ Brown), or with alpha type X receiver that can beat his man one-on-one when TY gets doubled(Butler, Metcalf, J.J. Arcega-Whiteside, Boykin, etc)...

I think Reich is creative enough to use all of those in different alignments and make them complement TY. Just draft the best receiver when you decide to take one. I really don't mind any type. We need help at ALL positions on the offense. None of them is 100% taken since Hilton is being moved around.

Very good points. I mostly agree with you outside of the fact that we definitely have more definitive snaps being taken up in the slot than on the outside. We know TY is getting his, we know Funchess is getting a good share, and we know Ebron will see steady usage their too.

So I lean slightly towards more of an outside figure, simply because he will make a bigger impact when hes on the field more often. I'd hate to take slot snaps away from any of those 3 vets, and I'd hate to bring in a sweet slot Rookie and bench him a bunch when those other guys get their reps there.
