    He’ll make the team.

Yes, he will and that was my point as I was responding to the following quote from you:

"It’s not even clear he’ll make the 53 man roster. He might.  But it’s not a lock."

I am glad we are in agreement now.

    Start?    Week one?

It’s not even clear he’ll make the 53 man roster.    He might.   But it’s not a lock.   And even if he makes the 53, he has to be able to play effectively if called upon.  The odds on all of that are likely not very high.

Freeland is a rookie 4th round pick at a position of need (OT). He's a stone cold lock to make the team.

Agree 100%.  If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.  RG is the only presumed weak spot right now not RT.  There is plenty of time to evaluate the position and bring in help if need be.  They addressed that position group with new coaches too.  The team knows improvement is needed.  It will play out to the good I think in due course.

The line was extremely "broke" last year and Braden was part of the problem at RT.

I'm not saying moving Braden to guard is necessarily the solution but when you draft a bunch of tackles, no guards, and RG being the biggest hole/weakness... it's certainly not out of the realm of possibilities.

yeah its better then paying hundreds of dollars to watch it when you can literally watch it online for free easily. i guess i just value my money enough to not waste it on something i can watch for free.. just me tho i guess

It may, indeed, just be you.

That's your prerogative. But, as you think we are crazy... We think you're crazy.

i still cant believe people pay that much to watch football on tv when you can easily watch it for free on your phone. Id never ever spend that type of money just to watch games on TV.

You're on a football fan forum and you can't believe people will pay that much ($20 a week, or less, over 17 weeks)?

To me, it's crazy that someone that is a football fan would choose to watch on a 7in hand-held screen.

(Also I'm not sure of the legality, accessibility, or existence of this "free" phone package)

Yeah the point of practice is to work on things you need to improve on so they become muscle memory so when you are in real game that takes over and you don’t do the bad things you used to do.  If they had little value because they aren’t like the real thing teams wouldn’t do it.

Also there is no law that says the starter must get all or most the snaps in practice.  Yes most teams do it that way but most teams don’t have another QB beyond the starter they are trying to develop into a starter.  I am sure if Richardson doesn’t start he’s going to see reps in practice because that’s the goal.  The Colts aren’t stupid they are going to adjust practice as needed for what they need to do.

With that said, I don’t think it’s been determined yet if Minshew or Richardson will start the season.  There are strong cases for both.  It will probably come down to how Richardson does in camp and the pre-season.  If he’s progressing to the point they think starting him will help his development more than hurt it he will start.  If not then Minshew will.  They have options and that’s always a good thing.

I didn't say practice is pointless. I agree with what you're saying but that work mostly occurs during off-season work. In season work is mostly prep for the next game due to limited time. Yes, the colts would obviously give more attention to AR but again live game reps are the ultimate way to learn and improve. This also gives the coaches more training tape.

  7. 8 hours ago, Zoltan said:

Your argument makes no sense, the thing is you need 100s of reps if not thousands to change habits, and you don't get those in games. Games are actually detrimental because that's when someone who hasn't had enough reps go back to bad habits. That can be footwork or even going through reads properly. you don't need 11 on 11 you just need repetitive actions until its natural. Then after you have all those reps you switch to live action.

There's also tons of examples of teams starting QBs too early and really ruining them, when they needed more practice. Even Pat Mahomes had said he needed to sit and learn when he first joined the league aka wasn't ready for real games.

There are also tons of examples of teams sitting players who needed to play (Trey Lance who was similar inexperienced to AR is a current example). AR needs to play to learn.

I didn't say practice isn't important but game reps are invaluable and are limited. And practice during the NFL season is typically limited to preparing for the next game so it's tough to grow in that spot.

Obviously there are proponents on both sides but as long as AR isn't getting destroyed by free rushers every play then I strongly believe he needs to be playing.

  8. 17 hours ago, Zoltan said:

I gotta say your wrong there, practice snaps are just as important if not more important than in game. That’s why teams like the Chiefs, Packers sit there QBs to learn before starting. I think us fans push that game snaps are more important just because we want to see them play.

False. Practice snaps are nothing like live fire game snaps. You just can't simulate the real thing. Plus during the regular season the starter typically gets all the meaningful reps in practice.

And the Chiefs and Packers sat their QBs because they had excellent QBs ahead of them on good, competitive, teams. Richardson behind Menshew (a below average QB joining a new, not so competitive, team) is not a comparable situation.

I hope he proves me wrong and I will be eating crow...

Would not have passed up Hunter Leupke (FB) or Michael Turk (P). Potential pro-bowlers at 'weak' positions are better than players who never see the field.

FB and Punter? We have a pro bowl potential punter and FB lmao... Please find your nearest exit.

Do you think they are trying to replace Granson?

I don't know if they're trying to replace him, specifically, I think it's just that none of the guys have proven to be consistently reliable. So, why not bring in more competition with one of our 300 picks?

With that said, I'm hoping someone can grow to be enough of a blocker (Woods or Olgetree) so that we can move on from Mo. There was a time when I thought Mo was going to be great but he has proven that he just is not a ball catcher and is too big and lumbering to have the body control needed to be a good TE. Plus his blocking has regressed as well.

I'm pretty confident that with this new group, they'll look to move or cut Mo, unless Steichen can unlock something in him.

I do not like Downs because he is a slot only WR.  If he was drafted 5-7 I'd like it.  Not in three with the players we could have had.

Welker was UDFA and Edelman was a 7th.

Redo their drafts and both are top 10 picks. Miami later traded Welker to Pats for a 2nd round pick before Welker was even Welker. So yeah, that's a(nother) bogus comment.

Very good value in the 3d... he's small but incredibly tough at the catch point. He had some insanely high contested catch %(I think it was over 70%)... I wouldn't call him a burner but he has good quickness and speed. Replacement for Campbell in the slot...

He sounds like an anti-Campbell... And that's a good thing!

It is not about succeeding or failing...

None of know what Anthony Richardson will become. He could be a dude. He could be a dud....

None of this changes the fact that Steichen was not truthful. He lied. Period. It concerns me when people lie. Especially people in positions of power.

Me stating the obvious is not a popular thing to say. Especially in the honeymoon of a new coach and quarterback. Most fans want to be excited right now... I get that. But I am not going to lie to myself to receive the satisfaction. I am not going to overlook the blatantly obvious elephant staring at me...

I am concerned about this teams future... And it has nothing to do with Anthony Richardson. It has everything to do with Steichen. He might be a brilliant football mind. That's not enough to lead men. You have to be authentic and truthful. I have never seen an untruthful coach have success. I have only been at this for 40 years, but what do I know? LOL

    Dear God.

You are seriously fixated on such a minor comment that was in no way a "lie".

As bluephantom stated, two things can be true.

Does Steichen highly value accuracy? Yes. Does Steichen also value a QB with infinite upside enough to take a risk on him, despite accuracy issues? YES!

I suggest you build a bridge and get over it.
