  1. What if we traded Bethea and picked up a safety in the draft(Elam anyone?) and then Ed Reed in FA to mentor the one we draft? I love Bethea and really think he just had a down year but with Reed leaving texans without a deal it's still a possibility.

I'd prefer to just keep Bethea and Landry myself but wouldn't be too discouraged by the move.

  2. I just heard Schefter on Sportscenter say the Colts are still in the running for Ed Reed. I just assumed that was out of the question at this point with the Landry signing.

yeah...I heard him say that too, but it's not going to happen. I really don't see any benefit at all for picking him up with Bethea/Landry.

  3. Hunter is definitely a first round talent. He had a bit of a down year coming off a knee injury....physically he had been compared to AJ Green

I agree completely. I was at the Tenn/South Carolina game this past fall and he looked very impressive. He looked real smooth and like a natural talent. He looked as if he was jogging and everyone else was full sprint. I'd be very happy to sign him, whether at 24 or trade back and get him. I personally like him over his teammate Patterson.

  4. Not sure why people think Denver got Vasquez cheap...6m is about the limit for a guard of his caliber.

Not sure why people are making a big deal about Cherilus knee...he has missed 4 games in his career

And yes, walden is pricey considering his résumé, but he is only getting 4m of that contact guaranteed..so it's perform or hit the road.

I definitely need to look at the way they structured these contracts but the numbers alone just sound like a lot. I'm just glad it isn't my money lol. I think we are done with BIG signings after RJF, but who knows. Oh and these past 2 signings have really helped I think and will be big upgrades over what we had.

  5. Hard to pass on a pass rusher if you are that high on him that is for sure.

A DE talent, Reggies replacement, and our next Center would be top priorities for this draft.

next center? I doubt we look for another center. We have Satele signed to a big contract and Shipley is our other guy who I think should be starting based on last year's performace. Satele was hurt a lot though, so it could be attributed to that.

  6. What deals are other teams getting? I see a bunch of horrible deals out there

Vasquez at around 6 mil/yr, DRC-5, Avril at 7.5, Welker at 6(no I didn't want Welker, but that's less than most would think).

We paid a back-up LB 4 mil/yr and every deal we seem to sign is more money than expected, every single one. It's not my money so I really have no right to talk, but I just think it could've been used more wisely on better, more-qualified players like the ones above. I like Thomas/Cherrilus, it just seemed pricey for Cher, especially with those knees...which worries me. Who knows though, I mean this is Executive of the year here, he knows a lot more about negotiations and who to fit our system than me.

  7. I do think most of our contracts other then the big one to Cherlius do have small amounts of guaranteed money. I just read in another thread that Tolar only has 5 mill guaranteed. So I guess we have "bust protection" but maybe we could have received a bit more value for the money. But then again , these guys might have the qualities Pagano wants. Maybe a guy like Cox is more skilled but doesn't fit the mold ? Dunno... just making observations and believe me , I'm not whinning. What Pagano and Grigson did whith the roster and cap room they were handed last year was nothing short of astounding. I respect that and will reserve judgement.

Good to hear, I hadn't seen much about the structure of the contracts, all I've really had a chance to read is $$$/years. I'll have to look at it in the morning. I think these players fit what Pagano/Grigs wants and that's why they were aggressive day 1. They do this for a living and I respect what happened last year as well. I'd like to see a couple more signings like Francois and maybe a WR, but we really won't know how this will work out for a while.

  8. Who haven't we "overpaid" for? I'm honestly not as upset about it as most seem to be on this forum, but I understand and I can see that other teams seem to be getting better overall deals than us. Is it because the broncos and 49ers are in "win-now" mode? I don't know...but I think Grigson had a plan and is sticking to it, based on the contracts I've seen it looks like we have just under 20 mil left, which still gives Grigs a lot to work with. Yes there were questionable contract amounts but we won't know if we "overpaid" till we see them play this fall.

  9. I don't think there is a single Colts fan on this forum that doesn't refer to the Colts as "us" or "we" so we all understand haha.

I'm pretty excited about Landry too. I wanted a hard hitter back there and glad we didn't just sign Reed because he knows Reggie/Chuck. He's young and can be a great safety for a long time. Vontae is one of my favorite current Colts. This secondary looks great on paper, can't wait to see them on the field. They will be very aggressive and receivers will be scared.

I'm also happy about the O Line signings. I think Cherius could be very good if he stays healthy, I'm honestly a little worried about that knee but we will see. Thomas from Patriots will be good too and pats fans seem to hate that he's gone, which is just an added bonus  :D . I doubt we sign any of those available tackles as we have Castonzo and now Cherius, no reason for them. I still regret not getting Vasquez, but that's more the Broncos fault than ours.

I would like another WR, probably not from Free Agency though as none of them really interest me. If we traded back in the draft and got a WR(like Justin Hunter) I would not be upset at all. The draft is really a toss-up, especially with Grigs...you saw what predictions really meant lol.

  10. Could be the best secondary we've ever had(at least in my 21 years of living lol).

I like Zbi as a back-up, just would rather pay him less than we are at the moment.

They have some improvement to go. Hope we sign RJF and draft OLB.

I said secondary, not defense...yet lol but I would love to sign RJF and OLB seems most likely in draft now, but who knows what Grigs is thinking haha.

  11. I'm so confused at our moves. I really hope the executive of the year knows what he is doing. I see us overpaying depth players, or players that would be depth on other teams. I just don't understand why we are throwing this money at players with a bunch of ? marks. Only signings I liked so far have been the O-line and Butler, and only because the O-line was terrible last year and anyone is better than what we had and Butler is who I wanted to re-sign over Powers.

I hope we get somebody I can genuinely be excited about, but maybe I will have to wait for draft for that player. But there is a reason that Grigs is GM and not me, but just as a fan I am disappointed this far through FA.

  12. Most definitely Toler with Darius as #3. I'm very happy about both of those signings even though 5 mil seems a little steep. I really don't see us drafting a CB first round anymore though, even though I'd love to get Rhodes(IF he slipped). If we don't, I say we get Tyrann in the 5th!

  13. I will say I wasn't wow'd by these signings but thinking about it more and reading up on these players I'm not as disappointed. I believe Grigs knows what he is doing, I trust him and we are NOT done. This was just day 1 of a long offseason. He got the players he wanted and within only a few hours. These were obviously players he didn't want to miss out on and wanted immediately even if we don't agree(cough Walden cough). It's not for sure if we overpaid these players yet, just based on the reports of contracts being rumors and not telling the structure of the contract. We got needs all around, 2 of which are on the OLine and are both instant upgrades over what we have and Castonzo gets to stay on left, which he wanted.

I'm very happy he didn't go after Kruger aggressively and I think we still have a good chance of signing Avril and Landry tomorrow which would change the perception of this free agency instantly for a lot of people on this forum. I've not jumping up and down yet but maybe tomorrow will change that...

For now we must all trust Grigs, I mean he is NFL Executive of the year.

  14. Tyrann Mathieu. I don't care if people think 3rd round is too early, it would be well worth it. He would be a first rounder if not a top 10 pick if he didn't have the weed charges. I think a lot more players smoke than people think and it's really not that big of a deal if he shows up ready to play every Sunday. He has "it" and it's so obvious, I just hope Grigs sees the same. I would love to pick up Ed Reed and have him be a mentor to Mathieu, that could do great things for his character and play-development.
