  1. It should be on Ballard, but it won't he is good for this year and probably next before the "reset" wears off. In principle I dont have issue with his methodology, like someone stated above Polian did the same. I think the fundamental difference is Ballard (at least it feels this way) avoided drafting premium positions. Until AR he did not take/or hit on 1st rd LT, DE, or QB......and would not trade up to take the chance on any of those positions. I almost feel like when he first took over he tried to build the mid ranks and depth and I was on board......but he never shifted to premium position difference makers, and I am watching year 7 and we are still filling the middle and not risking the biscuit to trade up to take a chance on a premium difference maker, at least not yet anyway......for me.....the time has come, roll them bones, lets try to get a premier (dang near anything) in here......but WR,DE,TE would make my heart happy.....So the scape goat will be the coordinator that fares the worst this year......pick your poison.

Sorry.  Don't get down. You have a new year of football to look forward to.

Any free agents you want? Any positions you want to address before the draft?

LOL..... I want some difference makers. If I have a crtique of Ballard its that he avoids the big decisions....He doesn't risk the biscuit by trading up to take a difference maker, he doesn't land the difference making FA.... if filler was the be all end all he would be the GM of the year , year after year....... to me after 7 years we have re-stocked the cream filling, I want some icing now LOL WR, DE, LT, QB, DB....... give me a true marquee at any of those positions....he has some potential at QB and LT......thats encouraging, but I want some bona fide dyed in the wool this dude should be a monster or is a monster insertions to this roster.....I want to see him take a risk at this point to crest the talent hill......

  3. Might be fair to say Ballard doesnt care for any of the FS' on the market or.......hes had plenty of time to work out a good faith contract while waiting for Sneed to sneed us as much as we sneed him......and if its dead he could go ahead and make that good faith contract official......so either he doesnt like any of them, or the deal aint dead yet......a little crunky addition by subtraction, to divide your thoughts LOL

  4. Premise 1: If Sneed deal is close, wouldnt it make sense that the Colts would be working their "next" target....because give or take a  little bit they would know what they have to work with (and we would hear some rumors about other players and Colts) .........Premise 2: If Sneed is a no deal see premise 1. Premise 3: Sneed is signed, but not yet confirmed/announced. Capologists will be jigging contracts moving money around etc. to be aiming at the next target and all negotiations and rumors would be quiet as there would be a pause to figure out what if any cap they have to work with going forward....just what I keep thinking anyway

Kenny never said he wanted out of Indy and never requested a trade.  Heck he didn’t even conduct a hold out he had a hold in during minicamp and was on the field when camp started and then was all in last year and had a great season.  He said early this off-season that he wanted to be in Indy.  Your characterization that he’s wanted out of Indy couldn’t be more wrong.

Well if I was characterizing it that way you would be correct. by "out of indy" and I thought  all the $$$ would be a give away....he has not been satisfied with his compensation......for at least a contract ago....but love that you locked on to 3 words and ignored the whole paragraph.....my bad for saying "out of indy" the intent of all the other words was to point out he has been wanting paid for quite a while so working out a deal with him is not a given nor should anyone expect a hometown discount....whether here or elsewhere he wants paid...or at least that is his track record on contract negotiations....personally its not my money and I am not the GM who has to answer for why he is either here or gone...just seemed poignant to remind the readers that he has been wanting paid for a while now....

It has not been in Ballard's DNA to push his chips to middle of the table. I would be very surprised if this were to happen. It's great he is resigning key Colt players - but I think it is overdue that he sheds the ultra conservative approach to building the Colts roster. His record to date speaks for itself.

I believe the old adage is , "If you always do what you've always done, you will always get what you always got" although I have heard said many different ways....but I agree with you :)

  7. Thanks to the OP for this, and all that share their knowledge on the cap "specifics" I can follow the math.....when its math, but all the special nuance of how that math applies can be overwhelming.....  If I have deciphered this thread correctly we can keep the handful of guys we don't want to lose if it all works out, and have some cash left to sign a free agent or two (second level types) or maybe 1 marquee guy give or take.....I dont want Ballard spending to spend....but if he can improve the team I would prefer that over boasting what cap we have left.....Money don't make plays on the field, players do.....

  8. Our defense is bad, We have to outscore/outlast our offensive opponent to win, luckily for our schedule its doable in most match ups.....getting Grover back will help with the run up the gut problems....however still too weak and inconsistent in pass rush and pass coverage....Some times we look like world beaters, other times we look like the 2's in a pre season snoozer.........
