  1. When you are 9 years old you pick a team that is good at the time to pull for. In 1970, it was the Cowboys and Colts. Two of my buddies already picked the Cowboys, so they told me I had to pick someone else so naturally I chose the Colts.

My wife loves to tell this story to prove my loyalty. I was paralyzed in an accident Oct 18th 1980 and was in a coma for four days after. According to my parents, the first thing I asked when I woke up was "Did the Colts win?" Unfortunately they lost to those damn evil Patriots. I was so mad I put myself into another coma for the rest of the season.

I kid I kid. I don't remember my reaction when they told me.

I have always lived in SC so it's a bunch of Falcon and Panther fans around me. Every time the Colts play one or both of them down here I make sure to get tickets.

Oh my. I just looked at their future schedules and saw they are coming back down here next year. Very cool.

Clowney had 3 whole sacks and seldome make plays, and this was his money year. He may be the most overrated player in the NFL who's going to get a 100 million dollar contract, I just hope it's not from the Colts..

Stats are overrated. How many games did you actually watch him play? He is double and triple teamed just about every play. His play allows other guys that aren't double teamed to accumulate worthless stats.

It's just one play that didn't go in the colts favor, not a terrible call. Would you have been loving the call if it had turned into a first down. As well as the Honey Badger came out of nowhere and made a hell of a play.

I just think it was a silly play to run at that particular time. Calling it on 3rd down would have been more reasonable. I would be the first one to criticize conservative play calling. My dumb Gamecocks try to run it up the middle all the time and keep getting stoned. So I would love to see them try something like this play that was called. However, when KISS is working, and I'm not calling you stupid, then stick with it. Make them stop you before you try something else.

  4. When we are gashing them up the middle and have a second and 2 inside the 5-yard line please don't try to be cute again and run a silly play when you don't have to. Especially on 2nd down. I understand they thought it was going to work and we're probably surprised it didn't, but why even take the chance the way we were dominating up front.

  5. Collinsworth said Cain was wide open on the trick play, but they never showed it in the replay. I would definitely like to see him get some jump ball opportunities down around the goal line

It was a good leading throw.  Campbell made it easy but Brissett still had to put it where it had to go.

And no, NOT any QB could make that throw.  We've certainly seen examples of that kind of throw going very badly.  One that stands out is the Russsel Wilson pass that the Pats picked off in SB49. Wilson didn't throw a strike to Lockette and that allowed Butler to get in and out the body on him.  A good throw that Lockette could shield with his body while he caught it would have been a TD.

Because Wilson made a bad pass on a simple throw he should complete most of the time he can't make the throw. A tough throw by my standards is when a QB has to drop it over a lb and in front of a safety/cb or a timing throw before the wr even comes out off his break. Having to hit a guy running wide open in the end zone when all he has to is lead him is not a tough throw.

JB threw him open.  Excellent work by the Colts QB.  If he threw behind him, that would probably have been a pick.  But Brissett threw it where only Campbell could get it, and Campbell delivered.

Brissett put that football right where it needed to be, fantastic touch pass.  Good running catch by the WR, but the pass was better than the catch IMHO.  That kind of touch pass is not easy to do and it's a good sign that Brissett is capable of creating offense with his arm even against good secondaries.

I'm not trying to be a wise guy but exactly how did Brissett throw him open? He was wide open on his own.  That was  an easy throw that any QB in the league should complete. And if he would have thrown it behind him it would have been a bad pass.

  8. The best part of the play was running and extra 40 seconds off the clock while trying to get them to jump. I will admit I was mad they didn't snap it. I thought for sure they were going to punt after the timeout. Had they run the play without running that extra time off the clock TN would have been in a lot better shape time wise on their last drive.

  9. I actually called for a running play before the snap so I definitely liked the call. This was probably already brought up in the 6 page Vinny thread but if not does anyone think we would still have gone for 2 if it were for the win. I think Reich actually would have since we were on the road and I would have loved the call win or lose

  10. I personally don't think a QB has to win a SB to be considered great. If having to win a SB is the standard to make a QB great does winning a SB automatically make a QB great. The answer is no unless you consider Jeff Hosteler, Doug Williams, Trent Dilfer, Brad Johnson, Joe Flacco great QBs. Those guys don't even belong in the same conversation as Luck and Marino when considering who is the better QB.

  11. I have never heard someone criticize Luck's mechanics until now. I'm no QB expert but I have always heard you want your QB to throw over the top as much as possible. In other words no 3/4 or side arm throws. Luck has one of the best motions I have ever seen.  And as others have stated when he wants let it rip he can do so with the best of them.

I don't remember hearing anything about Reich not taking interviews.  No one ever called him for any.  I saw a radio show where they interviewed Dungy and he said no one called Reich because he wasn't a self promoter.  There might be some validity to that but I think on field results matter more than self promotion.

My view is that Reich didn't get a call because the thing that tipped the scales towards him being a head coaching candidate didn't happen until the playoffs and the superbowl which is after everyone has already picked out their guy.  Don't get me wrong the season Wentz had was great but it was just one season and I think most teams would have wanted more than one season before they pulled the trigger on Reich.

However having Nick Foles get them to the SB and win a shootout against the Pats is what put him over the top.  Everyone both fans and other teams are most impressed by what happens in the biggest games and the biggest games are always playoffs and the biggest game is the Superbowl.

If everyone had to wait until after the SB to interview head coaching candidates Reich would have been a hot commodity.  When McDaniels backed out we were the only team without a candidate picked out and therefore the only team that could hire the guy who would have otherwise been suddenly the hottest HC candidate.  Reich fell into our laps.

I am convinced that any other NFL team put in our situation of suddenly not having a head coach after seeing Reich's offense with a backup QB win a shootout with the Pats in the SB would have hired Reich.

Landing Reich in the way the Colts did is similar to the Colts landing the 1st overall pick the year that Andrew Luck came out.  The obvious choice but also pure luck.

I have never heard it was because Reich wouldn't interview until after the SB.  But if that is true I can explain why you wouldn't wait.

If he comes in and bumbles the interview all of the best candidates are already hired.  It can make or break you.  Colts got lucky like I described above because the playoffs inflated the stock on a specific coordinator.  Any other team if it had found ourselves in the situation that we did would have hired Reich.  But the playoffs don't always change the stock on coordinators and you don't want to be the team left picking last.

I can't really argue with anything they say except for the reason why Reich wasn't on anyone's radar for a head coach. From what I remember Reich said he wasn't going to do any interviews until after their season was over. I believe that is the only reason he was still available to us. I have a hard time believing someone else wouldn't have scooped him up if Philadelphia didn't make the run they did

  14. Add Banogu and the 2 vets Sheard and Houston and  we look like we have a nice rotation at defensive end. Which means these guys should be all fresh in the 4th quarter going up against a worn down offensive line. The best defenses are those that get a lot of pressure with only 4 guys just like the Mathis Freeney defenses back in the day. I am very excited to see how this years defense materializes. It definitely has a lot of potential
