  8. This board rule worth a reread: You may find that you do not always agree with someone else's opinion. At those times, please remember that it's safer and more polite to take issue with the comments than with the person. While free debate within the outlined parameters is encouraged and diversity of opinion is what fuels a good debate, each member is entitled to his own opinion, so long as it is expressed in a civil manner and does not violate the code of conduct.

Personally, I disagree that everyone has equal entitlement to their opinion. Some people have a much greater understanding of a topic and therefore their opinion is much more informed than someone who just reads something that is potentially out of context and spouts it as if they are a philosopher of all things great. (seems to be a word limit on these replies)...GRE is tougher, so it's up to you. If you know you want to go to Business School, then go for the GMAT, but if you do not want to pigeon-hole yourself, and apply to other post-grads/masters then GRE is the better route to go down.

Yes Brett, generally only Business Schools will recognize the GMAT, whilst any school offering any type of Masters or graduate qualification will accept the GRE. That is why it offers quite a bit more flexibility than the GMAT. Only recently have all business schools accepted GRE scores so this could lead to the GMAT becoming obsolete, but that's just a hunch. CR91, in terms of the difference, the GRE is quite a bit cheaper, the math in the GMAT is considered harder but the verbal on the...

I was studying for it until there was a nationwide-agreed acceptance that Business Schools will accept GRE as an equal alternative to GMAT for MBAs. Doing a GRE gives you a lot more flexibility when applying for things other than purely MBAs. Both tests are very straight-forward though.
