  1. For once, the IndyStar had a worthwhile article on this today.  The gist of it being... they've tried to fix the interior of the line through cheaper means.  Six... SIX starting centers since Luck has been on board.  That's a lot of futility and instability in the region that Luck is getting most of the pressure.

At some point, you can't keep monkeying around in such a critical area.  Like someone said earlier, no one would be complaining today if we took Travis Frederick in 1st round several years ago.  And Kelly is about as sure thing as there is in this draft.

  2. Or maybe if the NFL just issued a warning at halftime to the pats like they did to Minn/Carolina, this issue would of been dead five minutes into the 2nd half of the AFCCG game. Just saying. warning issued and its part of the pats resume.

Mouthfire, nobody is happy how this things came down. On one hand folks are upset that the pats balls were as low as they were at halftime, on the other hand folks are not happy about unnecessary circuses. one can still impose a sanction without the circus. if there is a circus and outcry after the sanction are imposed and results issued, so be it, fair enough, no problem.

Or, Brady shouldn't have put himself in that type of situation in the first place?

Really... If you don't want to be caught with your pants down, don't drop the trousers in the first place.... It's as common sense as anything else.

  3. That works both ways Granzs on each side of the fence.

Maybe if Kravitz doesn't leak out the investigation via his "NFL" source at 1 AM Monday morning.  I am still not sure why a reporter would be talking with an NFL official in the wee hours of the morning, most folks are in bed, funny how that report came out, aint it?

Maybe if Mortensen does not report 11 balls are a full 2.0 psig below the minimum from his NFL source, which was patently wrong.

Maybe if the NFL, who was in possession of the actual numbers, came out and actually disclosed them and/or indicated that Mortensen was patently wrong.

Maybe if the national media does not make this the biggest thing I do not known when, partly due to Mortensen's report which again was not properly qualified by the NFL.

Maybe if there was not the circus that was around in Jan, we might of been able to more properly prepare for the SB.

Maybe if the NFL did not have all of its leaks, had a tight ship, did its investigation and issued it findings and penalties as they did in the last month, there would have not been the circus in January and would  be where we are now with the present fines and penalties imposed.

But alas that did not happen and that is all the fault of the NFL and not us.

So when that circus occurs, which should not have happened, sometimes folks do not respond as you may wish.

So yah it works both ways, you guys think you got responses that you did not like, but on this side of the fence we had to endure an unnecessary circus than in the end didn't do anything substantive but just be a waste of time and energy.

Or, maybe if Brady didn't cheat in the first place, this all would have been irrelevant.  That's kind of the bottom line.

The rest of your post is essentially just deplacing blame.  It's what my 5 year old does when I catch him in the cookie jar.

  4. Well, considering it was institutionalized Pats cheating, involving at least 3 people, as opposed to one pitcher, you do the math.

And as noted above, do we also not say the punishment was severe enough, as Brady wasn't removed from the game when the cheating was discovered?

Seriously, if you're going to try to justify your team cheating, pick a better article... And actually read it next time.

  5. From your linked article.....

"Matusz might not pitch again for a while. The Brewers' Will Smith was suspended for eight games Friday by Major League Baseball for having a foreign substance on his arm in a loss to the Braves."

So going by how the MLB handled/will handle Matusz for cheating, you believe brady should have been ejected DURING the Colts game? And then suspended 8 or more of the following games? Sounds good to me!!!!

Lol... I don't think Morty actually read the article...

  6. I'll take another crack at this.....

When the incident happened, I didn't know the rule was you couldn't mess with the footballs. I didn't know it had been outlawed in the last 6-10 years or so.

I just assumed most QB's did this. And so when it happened and I heard about it, I thought of this as a misdemeanor, and not a felony. So, I wasn't offended by what I thought was a lesser crime.

That said, I also said the NFL was going to view this much different than I did. That they'd see this as a competitive advantage thing which the league takes seriously. I was among the first here to proclaim that the NFL would think this was indeed a very big deal and would drop the hammer on the Patriots.

I wrote about a month ago that Brady should come out and own it.

Say the guys did it at his request. That he didn't think it was that big a deal. That he thought of it as doing 75 in a 65 zone. And the only reason he didn't own up to it at his press conference was the reaction was so stunning and surprising to him he was afraid he'd get suspended for the Super Bowl and he wasn't going to let that happen. But now that we're beyond that, he's ready to admit his guilt and take his punishment.

That's what I thought when this happened in January. That's what I thought a month ago. And this is what I think now.

I'm sorry it seems to have offended a number of posters here. That was never my intention.

I think it's a bit more than that. Let's just skim past how much the underinflation really helped the Pats or not. I think it really did, but that's less important for this discussion. For this discussion, let's even ignore the fact that Brady has been lying to the league about it.

This wasn't just a matter of "Whoops, we just slightly underinflated the balls. My bad!". This was a premeditated and concerted effort to circumvent the rules. Remember, you had the Pats lackeys stealing away with the balls, running to some hidden corner, then intentionally deflating the balls and decieving the officials at hand. It *clearly* wasn't something that would have happened by accident.

The level of planning and premeditation involved in the act showed a clear and blatant disregard for the rules. This wasn't just a simple "Whoops!". They clearly put a lot of effort into this. Similar to how a premeditated murder is far worse in the court's view them a simple manslaughter, the amount of planning and intent makes the crime worse. For that reason, it wouldn't be the NFL equivalent of a " misdemeanor"... it would be a "felony", and I think the punishment is very appropriate.

  7. I don't take you seriously because of what you say. Your inability to do nothing but repeat your self over and over bringing up things that are irrelevant to the issue. The oh, woe is me is getting old. The I am being picked on is getting old. The it's not fair is getting old. The their just jealous is getting old. The excuses one after another is getting old. I don't have to read what the Washington post has to say because it's the same old thing. Who really cares what the Patriots think other than Patriot fans? Most all of patriot fans have tunnel vision and refuse to look at reality. The bottom line is the Patriots are two time offenders and nothing any Patriot fan, media person or anyone else is going to change that. The Patriot's are just one team out of 32 and don't deserve any better treatment than any other team. If you feel the Patriots are being singled out that's on you. If the Patriots wouldn't break the rules there would be no problem. You keep pointing out things about this and that but the one you keep over looking are the Patriots. They brought all of this upon themselves.

    Bravo.

And that's really the point. When did the world get to the point that fully grown up men can't be accountable for their own actions?

Seriously. Stop the deflections. Stop blaming other people and other teams. The Patriots did bring this on themselves, and they have no one else to blame. At least if they stopped making excuses and said, "Yes, we did it. We made a mistake.  We'll accept the punishment", I could respect them for being grown up adults.

  8. And now we've somehow made it back to the oh, so compelling argument that the Patriots need to be babysat just so they don't cheat.  It absolutely has to be about integrity of the game when what your suggesting is that the NFL should have to hold the Patriots hands every step of the way just so that the Patriots don't do things like break the rules and conceal it.  It couldn't be about anything else because we're not talking about the league ensuring that the balls remain at the same pressure from the time they test them to the time they make it to the field.  We're talking about the NFL being required to keep tabs on the Patriots just so they can keep their professionalism in tact, which by the way is something that should be accomplished with self-policing.  Integrity is doing the right thing when no one is looking, and it seems that you are suggesting the Patriots need someone to be their integrity police...it's honestly baffling that you are making this a point of contention.

    Quoted for truth.

  9. Sure it has. Even some of the harshest Patriots critics here have said they believed it wasn't the biggest deal in the world and that isn't why they won those championships...this will in time be looked at the same way. Let people 'remember' the Patriots lack of cooperation...the action of football manipulation itself is what the real issue was here and down the line people will know that and it will fade. 15 years from now when the NFL Network is running their 'America's Game' marathon, you think people are gonna sit there during the 2014 episode and say 'hmm yeah they were good but they were arrogant and didn't cooperate'. Heck no. It just wont matter.

I'm sure it feels good to think this given your team's struggles against the Patriots...but you are simply not correct about it. Belichick will be a first ballot hall of famer. Brady will be a first ballot hall of famer, and 20 years from now, the NFL network will be running tribute videos of the "Great Patriots Dynasty" just like they run them now for their past great champions. Sure - a few angry shut-ins may still be shaking their fist at the tv and incoherently screaming "Bu-bu- SPYGATE!! DEFLATEGATE!!!!!"....but that's the extent of it.

Yeah, you guys keep saying that, but everyone knows it's not true.  Check your own team forum boards.... Even Pats fans are coming around to the reality that these SB's are forever tainted, and that these current era Pats will always be viewed as cheaters.  Those Pats championships will ALWAYS be mentioned in the same breath as Spygate, Deflategate, Two 1st round draft picks, Brady suspended by the league for cheating.  Unfortuately, that's reality.

If Brady didn't think so, he would have just admitted the wrong doing in the first place.   He knew his legacy was in major jeopardy.

And really, if it doesn't matter, why do you guys spend so much time trying to change our minds on the issue?  Seriously.

  10. You are dismissing the science provided by a Nobel Prize winner with the incredibly disingenuous suggestion that Kraft "owns" the company he started. Believe me - the NFL "owns" more of Exponent given the fee they paid to get the result they wanted. The fact here is that the science is FAR FAR FAR from conclusive that any tampering happened whatsoever here. One company with a demonstrated track record for providing scientific results that fit the needs of those paying for it says they think the science is conclusive that there was tampering. That's a pretty weak starting point. We all were led to believe by the NFL that the Patriots footballs were deflated to 20% below the legal limit. Now the best anyone can say is that one science company believes the balls were marginally below what would be expected. That's good enough for the pitchfork and torches crowd.

Hmmmm... How is that disingenous? A scientist with documented ties to Kraft? On most planets, that sounds like a conflict of interest.

Actually, that's the very definition of conflict of interest....

    *shrug*

  11. "The start" was when the Patriots started deliberately breaking the rules. I really don't get this line of reasoning. They did something wrong, they got penalized for it. I don't understand the whole "why didn't you warn us before catching us in the act?" defense. It's a deflection.

It really is that simple. Don't cheat in the first place, then you wouldn't have to worry about it.

No one really to blame but the Patriots themselves....

  12. Just a thought... Is it entirely possible that Kraft is just an honorable man, who just couldn't stomach all the rhetoric anymore, finding out somewhere along the way that his organization truly cheated?

I know if I were in that situation, I would try to find any way to back out. It would certainly explain the sudden reversal.

If that's the case, it does restore some faith that integrity does mean something to some people after all....

  13. There doesn't need to be, anyone that isn't a Patriots fan knows they are there regardless.

That's not quite true. Skimming the Pats forum (I admit, I do that from time to time), it's becoming quite clear that even Pats fans are realizing the rings are tainted, and that they'll always be viewed as cheaters. That's why the Kraft concession is such a big deal.

In any event, if I were a Pats fan and truly believed that those championships weren't forever tainted, I'd be contently sitting at home and be happy not saying anything at all. The last thing is be doing is spending all my time on a Colts forum, trying to convince the world that it wasn't true.

In other words, it matters... whether certain Pats fans want to openly admit it or not....

  14. I wish I could say your view is shared by Pats fans as I know how much you want it to be but it isn't. Go check out Patriots Planet and you will not see any of your sentiments shared. Perhaps that is how you wish we felt but sorry to break it to you, we don't. That 4th lombardi was as sweet as they come and most of us are focused on defending that title this upcoming season. This will all blow over soon and the haters will be on to something else to try to ding the Pas. That much we are used to and honestly does not bother us a bit. When you are at the top, the wind blows the hardest to try to knock you down ...

Could say something... but nothing I could say would make her look any worse than she does right now...

  15. Idk how you guys are even laughing these explanations are getting to stupid for me to laugh at I actually feel bad for these people

And that's the thing, too. The Patriot's rebuttal was so bad, I actually feel bad for them. It's absolutely cringeworthy.

But that's what happens when you're a lawyer tasked to defend someone who's so obviously guilty from the evidence on hand... The defense ends up sounding something like an alien conspiracy.
