  1. Howdy,

I was trying to send you an invite to Coltman51s pickem pool since you participated in Andy's pool last year, but methinks your inbox is full. If you are interested, here is a clip from the PM:

    ---------------

Here is a link to his post with sign up information: http://forums.colts.com/topic/20209-are-we-starting-a-forum-pickem-league-this-year-on-the-boards/?p=550215

And here is a link to the Yahoo log in/signup page: http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/pickem

If you miss tonight's game you will still be able to pick the rest of this weeks games - plus everyone's worst week will be dropped so even missing this week entirely won't have much impact on you.

    --------------

    Take care

  2. LOL   I've never watched it, but that doesn't mean I've never heard of it. Hard to miss the commercials.

You might be thinking of when I was complaining because the winning quote from a contest referenced a movie that was seen by approximately three people - two of whom apparently were judging the entries here. :)

I might check it out - thanks for the heads-up.

  3. I had heard that there would not be a fine. This was a tweet by Mike Chappell:

    Mike Chappell@mchappell51

NFL will not fine #colts WR reggie wayne for wearing orange gloves in sunday's win vs. GB. appropriate non-call, so to speak.

Not just a tweet - he wrote about this in the Star two days ago.

    http://blogs.indystar.com/coltsinsider/2012/10/08/colts-wr-reggie-wayne-wont-draw-a-fine-from-nfl/

There are enough reasons to say "shame on you NFL" without fabricating them.

  4. RG - am I missing something about the nature of blogs? I rarely read them.

I politely suggested that he was ignoring a lot of great players that I grew up admiring. It's called having a conversation, not "jumping on". Is there a rule that the only comments allowed are cheerleading and supportive pats on the back regardless of content? Must be nice. I'll have to remember that if I ever write my own blog.

  5. I think that you are significantly underselling the Baltimore Colts on defense. Bubba Smith wasn't limited by injuries ala Sanders. He played essentially full seasons for 8 years, and was one of the best at his position for the duration. The only reason he left the Colts was because Joe Thomas dismantled the team. And that team he dismantled had been a defensive force - that's why they came close to going unbeaten in the SB 3 season despite Unitas being injured. We're about the same age - I'm sure you know this.

The Colts - ignoring a couple of bad years - had plenty of impact players on defense from the 50's championships through the Bert Jones era. Scanning for HOFers hardly tells the story. Remember the sack pack? DBs? I'd take Rick Volk, Jerry Logan, Bobby Boyd (amongst others) on my team any time.

  6. Maureen - sorry for the tone of my earlier comments - it's really not that big a deal. Subjectively, the appearance is nice, and the "most liked" link is cool - I just didn't like everything being awkwardly compressed to the left side of the page, nor the implication that advertising was going to be made a priority over user comfort. Oh, and the "missing links". lol.

But I came here yesterday in the middle of making phone calls to set up multiple repair people to address some problems with my house. I've got a variety of unpleasant things going on, and perhaps I wasn't in the right mood for the "surprise" here. But whatever it is, it is, I'm still here.

  7. I knew that you would have posted information about this somewhere, but I had to search high and low through-out the site before stumbling on this explanation because of everything on the right side of the page having been replaced by advertising. I'd find the irony amusing if the totality of the changes weren't so depressing.

In short, I'm having trouble appreciating any of the "benefits" of the integration, but I could list several things about it that rub me the wrong way. Does anyone at colts.com honestly think that this improves the user experience?

  8. I can relate subvet. Well written. I don't like metal much at all, but The Who are one of my all-time favorites, and I would never dream of shutting off "Won't get Fooled Again" mid-song. "Sharing" it with the neighbors is also something that I consider a civic responsibility. lol.

About 10 years ago when we had only recently bought our house, and I had only recently bought a truck with a CD player for the first time, and when I used to work utterly absurd hours on a constant basis, I used to often arrive home late and trying to unwind by enjoying some loud music. Of course I always had to let the song finish. In the interests of efficiency, I would usually open the door and turn the sound up even louder so that I could hear it while I walked back down the driveway to get the mail. Of course if the next song started before I arrived back with the mail..........

  9. Silly over-reactions. This is a business - every single player and owner is "in it" for a combination of money, ego, and and insane need to compete. Warm and fuzzy human feelings are largely irrelevant, yet ironically were blatantly on display today.

There is also a thing called a salary cap - meaning that the teams spend the same amount of money every year regardless. Irsay didn't make this decision to save money. Short-term, he will make LESS money with Peyton gone. He's thinking long-term, however. That's his responsibility as the steward of the franchise.

You need to calm down and evaluate the circumstances fairly. Over the next few years I'll be paying as much attention to Peyton's team as I will be to the Colts, but I'm choosing to view that as having twice the fun. I've been a Colts fan since I was about 6-7 years old, and this is FAR from the worst thing we've been subjected to. The idea of abandoning the team is just silly.

  10. I'm having trouble seeing the difference - other than the overlay of colts.com on the top and some minor formating changes.

Please encourage them to get rid of the "All roads lead to FORUM" thing with the smiling face in the middle. It doesn't add anything to the site, and is so generic that it reminds me of one of those pictures that comes in a picture frame when you buy it. In other words, it looks like the default images that came with the software instead of something customized for the Colts. A horseshoe? Colts blue? A backround panoramic of LOS? Something besides this guy who looks like he's happy because he just got back from a dentists appointment.

    --------------------------

Nevermind, looking hard now I see that it's an advertisement. Incredibly ineffective I must say, and if you have to give that chunk of prime real estate to an add there isn't much you can do to improve the appearance.

I do like the horse shoes on the left though.
