  1. Thanks again for all your participation in this week's Colts Mailbag, which you can find by clicking here. Lots of questions this week about the defensive side of the ball, particularly the coverage schemes being utilized by defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus. I think you'll find there were attempts to make adjustments against the Jaguars, the execution and communication just wasn't all there. Definitely fixable moving forward. Also, I think there's a hang-up about how many times Philip Rivers threw the ball in Week 1. Granted it's only one game, but there were so many short passes that

  2. So, are any forum members going to be at Lucas tomorrow?? I saw an article in the Star about a lady who hasn't missed a home game since the Colts came to Indy. She was 14 the year they moved and hasn't missed a game since. Even she didn't get in on the 2500 STH's who were allowed to attend tomorrow. Irsay decided she would be his guest tomorrow. Very cool.

  7. A man after my own heart... I can see some benefit, just not enough that I think it matters. And I don't know that there's any benefit to seeing a few people scattered all over the place in the stands. A full stadium, sure. And like you said, if they can add revenue, they will.

  12. In some ways it has grown on me. Sounds “old-timey.” ”The Washington Football Team.” It puts the emphasis on the home location.... Washington. There’s actually probably a unique marketing angle that could be inventive, progressive, and refreshing........: thenagain, its Dan Snyder.

  13. Yes, test their protocols and plans at first and adjust. Even at the Chiefs game where one was positive, it was just 10 other fans that have to quarantine. Not that bad considering.

  18. I like that. So they have advantages now, because the disadvantages they had been playing with for years are: 1. now has to be experienced by some other teams 2. Chargers are already used to playing with small crowds, so playing without them is like just another day. No adjustment period needed.(amplified by no preseason) 3. they don't have to hear opposing teams fans at their home games, so another win for them.(0 fans > opponents fans) Good day(season) for the Chargers Triple Crown

  19. It is good news for the Chargers. It seemed that their home field has not given them an advantage since moving from San Diego. It seemed that most of the crowds at their home games were fans of the opposing team. The players expressed that this bothered them.

  20. I am hoping they do bring him back as a 5th starter and basically set a contract at 13/14mil for a year. Since he has a 10mil buyout already, rip that up and give him a few million more since he can still mean a lot in the rotation as a backend

  21. He had a hip issue which happens, and a lacerated kidney in which he was in a hospital for. Last year he played all 16. He doesnt have an avaliablilty issue, especially as a TE who is almost every play and takes shots across the middle

  22. Well just because Ertz wants a trade, doesn't mean it will actually happen. He can "force" a trade, but force is in quotes because the team owns rights. They are using him enough to have no interest in a trade. He did spend 85% of offensive snaps on the field last week. Yeah he's a fit, but are we willing to extend a contract to Ertz AND coax the Eagles into a trade for a player they clearly need? Meh, sounds like a recipe for paying too much overall to the team and player. Oh and I second @coltsfeva, 30 years old...

  23. It's too early to judge, but I don't know why anyone thinks the Browns, Bears, Lions, or even the Bengals games are going to be easier than the second part of the season. And historically, we haven't had much luck with the Jets. I agree with @shasta519 , the lack of OTAs and the preseason resulted in a lot of parity. I think as the season goes on, the wheat will start separating from the chaff. I just hope we're wheat.

Forget statistics, just let's see where we all agree/disagree from a pure spectator standpoint. 32) Chargers QB (?) 31) Mitchell Trubisky (Chi) 30) Dewayne Haskins (Wash) 29) Cam Newton (NE) 28) Drew Lock (DEN) 27) Ryan Fitzpatrick (Miami) 26) Joe Burrow (Cin) (Rook) 25) Teddy Bridgewater (Caro) 24) Garner Minshew (Jax) 23) Sam Darnold (NYJ) 22) Derrick Carr (LV) 21) Ryan Tannehill (Tenn) 20) Daniel Jones (NYG) 19) Jimmy Garapolo (SF) 18) Baker Mayfield (Cleve) 17) Carson Wentz (Ph

  26. I actually like it to. I do know they will sell a lot of extra merch. Sell remaining on old merch(cause some will want to buy it for nostalgia) Sell The Football Team merch(season or 2) Then change to new name and sell that merch, everyone will want to get the Football Team Merch then for nostalgia. Major money making going on.

  28. I’ve found my new favorite way to watch a game. Really gives you an idea of what's happening. You can see play design, who’s out of position, who missed a block, who fell down, even who’s pickin their nose or scratchin their butt. All 22 on the field so you miss nothing. I especially like to see the blocking bubbles grow or collapse on the line. I just cant say how much i’m gaining from this. Each play is run twice...once from sideline (all 22), then from endzone (all 22). Great to see the plays develop, or a defender fly across the field to a tackle. No sound, so i

  31. I'll just say this. Washed up, no. But didn't look TYish last week. Saw some routes/cuts that looked lazy or slow, his last-move-separation he is famous for didn't look near as good as past. Not saying by any means we need to get rid of him, but I do think we need to stop forcing plays to him. Ballard/Reich said our O goes through TY. Not sure if that's the right strategy right now. Purely my opinion, but perhaps he needs to start playing more slot, and less Z. They already do that that some, and Paris looked better than TY plain and simple. It's early, and one game isn't enough t

  32. Philip Rivers has not played well against defenses coached by Mike Zimmer. Last year, he threw 3 interceptions and had a lost fumble in a 39-10 Vikings win against the Chargers. Drew Mahowald writes, "This isn’t just about his team getting the best of Rivers’ team, however. In each game, Zimmer has limited Rivers’ efficiency as a passer, and it has had a direct impact on the result of the game." Link Rivers is now with a new team. How will the Colts offense help Rivers play better against the Zimmer defense?

  33. Great and correct use of fair and fare in your last sentence. Dis not say it would not be an uphill climb should they lose on Sunday just that the season is not over. Plus there is an extra playoff spot this year as well. All I am saying is that I won’t panic or get completely relieved with either outcome on Sunday.

  35. Penn State’s Pat Freiermuth and Florida’s Kyle Pitts - we can get one of those first round TEs. Cole Kmet fell to No.43, Gronk was top of Round 2, I think that’s our true long term TE answer, the draft.

  36. A little overreaction here. Doyle is not going on IR last I read. He could be back next week. Burton is on IR and should be back in a few weeks. We should be favored in the next four games. No reason to get nervous this early. A lot can still happen leading up to the trade deadline. Maybe the Bucs get off to a bad start with Brady and Howard might suddenly become available or some other TE on a struggling team. I am not really worried about our offense right now in the early part of our schedule. I think we have time to let the season play out a little further.

  37. Bingo. Kinda shoots the opinion of zone coverage out the window for those who are harping on it. Most of those who are complaining are not comprehending what they are seeing.

  38. Agreed on Game Pass, and that's why I don't mind getting seats in the upper sections, preferably on the sidelines, though. You see everything, you just don't get the replay of that view.

  39. I think the logic is that allowing such a small amount of people in tests the ability to manage and then you can scale up from there. Agreed it is a risk but it is probably step 1 to getting back to having a decent number of people in stadiums. Also, in theory, even with one person being positive, the attendees should be distanced enough that it will not be passed to many (if any) others. It is a fair question that you ask though.
