  1. After a day off for the players on Tuesday, the Colts got right back to it today with their seventh of 11 scheduled fully-padded training camp practices. There was a clear emphasis by QB Philip Rivers to throw the ball down the field, and TE Trey Burton seemed to be a favorite target once again. Also, Jack Doyle returns to practice, Justin Houston Pick Alert and a reception for ... Rivers? Check out the full notebook from today's practice by clicking here.

  2. Thanks to you all, another terrific round of questions for this week's Colts Mailbag, which you can find by clicking here. Some of the questions are so good that I save them for the following week's, so whenever I reach out for more, don't be discouraged if I don't immediately get to yours.

  4. He also signed Rivers and drafted Eason instead of what the fans thought as well, so apparently he doesn't think Brissett is starter material. If you are going to use Ballard as a measuring stick to tell people on this forum that their opinions are inferior, then you have to respect his decisions as the "measuring stick". His decision was to sign a real starter in Rivers, and draft a QB of the future potentially in Eason. That's with Brissett having a $20 million dollar contract and he's paying him that to sit on the bench and only start if Rivers gets hurt. Eason doesn't have to s

  5. WAS is committed to giving Haskins the job...JB would not start over him. Minshew was a better passer as a rookie than JB was in his 4th year in the league...and Minshew can run with the ball. Trubisky sucks...which is why they got Foles...who JB is not going to start over...because Foles has proven he can play at a really high level...though not consistently. Taylor’s time as a starting QB was actually better than JB’s...and he makes plays in the running game too. They are actually similar in how risk-averse they are...but Taylor’s floor due to his running ab

  7. Believe me Guys Philip is the real deal. Obviously(No Offense)Y'all haven't watched his career like I have. We literally gave Brees away. No money and No picks because the Spanos are dummies and should not be allowed to be owners in the NFL...Rivers will blow you away with his heart and love for the game. You'll see it within the first game and you will love him as much as we do in San Diego. He luvs the game and he luvs to WIN!!! You'll see it first game when he starts talking trash. I predict a Super Bowl for the Colts this year with the defense and the O line ya got. Give Phillip 5-6 second

  8. There has been more chatter about Fountain and Patmon than Dulin. Dulin, on the other hand plays ST's fairly well. If you ever take a serious look at Pittman and Patmon's RAS Scores they are virtually identical athletically.....those two big fockers on the outside with Campbell, TY, Fountain and Pascal on the inside would be imposing.....just my humble opinion of course!

  13. Yes, it's been a challenge for them with so much time off due to the virus and being shut down for a couple of weeks. All those double-headers will take their toll, I'm afraid. However, we got a lift getting Molina and DeJong back in the line-up this week. @Jay Kirk I feel the pitching will make or break them. Waino has pitched pretty well, Kim looked good and Flaherty is clearly our ace. Need good bullpen performances, for sure. We should get a playoff spot and then it's a whole new season, so to speak. I'm just hoping we can stay healthy and we have a chance to

  15. Been Googling several draft previews for Eason. Most had him going late 1st or 2nd round. https://draftwire.usatoday.com/2020/03/08/2020-nfl-draft-jacob-eason-scouting-report/ Jacob Eason | QB | Washington Elevator Pitch Eason is your prototypical pocket passer. Before the likes of Lamar Jackson or Patrick Mahomes, Eason would be the type of quarterback that would be the first quarterback taken in the NFL Draft. Big arm and will stand in the pocket to make the throws. Very reminiscent of Josh Allen of Buffalo. Likely will find himself in the first round as quarte

  16. It’s not just disgruntled fans who think that. This title of this thread is that JB still believes he is a starter. So unless that is actually not what he believes....I think we should all be very surprised if he signed with the Colts to be a backup QB after this season...because he’s certainly not going to be re-signed as the starter.

  23. Another thing I miss from the small ball times is the art of the stolen base. In 2-1 games, a stolen base is much bigger than it is today. I can't even tell you who has lead the league in stolen bases the past few years. My favorite stolen base: Thirty years ago today was the most amazing stolen base ever by a team managed by Whitey Herzog. The above is a remarkable statement because Herzog loved the stolen base more than any other manager of the last 100 years. In his 2,409 games in the dugout, his teams swiped 3,036 bases. That’s 1.26 steals per game. Among

  24. I've never been interested in rankings. I go by what I see, and having watched every snap of his entire NFL career, I can give you this season summary of his offensive lines. 2006 - 2007: One of the best lines in the league. 2008 - 2011: Very inconsistent game to game, play to play, largely because of recurring injury issues throughout these years to several regular stalwarts (mainly McNeill, Hardwick and Dielman). Overall slightly above average. 2012: Worst offensive line he's ever had to deal with at any level, and one of the worst I've ever seen in all my almost 50 years watching this

  26. Just some historical perspective as to whom we have under center right now...... Essentially broke all SEC Records set by Peyton Manning before graduating as a senior.... Drafted in 2004, threw approximately 20 passes in 2004 and 2005 as he sat behind......Drew Brees. So in year 15 as a starter, with an AVERAGE year he will move into the top 5 (historically) in yardage and touchdowns.....trailing only the likes of Brees, Manning, Brady and Favre but passing by Marino in both categories. Not bad for playing for some awful crappy and some awful con

  37. I watched Brissett since his time at NC State. Good player. Being an NC State fan, I've seen Philip Rivers, Russell Wilson, Mike Glennon, Jacoby Brissett, and Ryan Finley over the last 20 years...all currently in the NFL. When Brissett made it to the NFL, my thought was that he was not ready to be a starter. But maybe after learning behind some vets and being in the right position, he would one day get to that level. At this point, I do think he is close, but I'm not sure if there is much more growth left to get him to that next level. That being said, I

  39. Great read. Great to hear Hilton is pretty close to 100%. I'd be shocked if they put Eason out there exposing him to potentially be picked up by another team. I think McLaughlin wins the kicking job. But what are the chances they keep Rodrigo as a PS guy?

  40. I don't mind a good 1-0 game. Makes everything more crucial. One wrong decision could cost you the game. Manager sticks with the guy one too many hitters and he blows the game. Decides to take his pitcher out and the reliever can't get out of the inning. Everything is magnified in a game like that. I enjoy an 8-5 game too. I just love to watch baseball. I watch all levels from high school to MLB.

  41. I have to agree. He's not Curtis Painter horrible, but he's not good either. That Saints game last year still is just pain to watch and analyze. He's a great backup, with valuable game day experience. He can step in for a pinch and manage the game well. He's a respected leader in the locker, and does anything that is asked of him. We're honestly pretty lucky with the situation we have at the moment, all things considered.

  42. I kind of feel like these days are over. If a youngster is not showing enough to be starting year 2, he's probably not doing great development-wise(notice - I don't mean I expect him to be a world beater in year 2, but I need him to be able to execute the offense and be good enough to give a well-constructed team a chance to win almost every game and if he's not good enough to be at least at Jacoby Brissett level, then you probably need to be looking for a QB elsewhere). Today's NFL game is very QB friendly and Reich himself is extremely in tune with ways to faciliate QB success and minimize t

  44. Cardinals playing a lot of games in a short amount of time due to their COVID shutdown, but they are hanging in. Molina is back and had 4 hits yesterday, and we get DeJong back now, too. Roster is coming together, which is important for the remainder of the year. Pitching has been pretty good and we have a good, balanced bullpen. Thought I'd fly some flags, too :-)

  45. Hahaha. You really think Q is going to take it easy on someone. He would pancake is grandmother if he went up agsinst her in practice. There is not a more competitive guy on our team and he isn't taking it easy on anyone or in any situation. I bet as soon as we signed Buckner Q couldn't wait to go up against him.
