  1. Thanks for sharing, but there are many who will not be happy until they see Luck taking seven stop drops and connecting on 60 yard bombs like in the Arians/Chud chunk play days. Personally I'm not worried and am glad Reich is not letting him get pummeled behind backup offensive tackles going against some of the better d lines in the league. I'm fine with taking it slow, we aren't going to the Super Bowl this year with Luck, but we might next year so lets keep him healthy and give him and the offense some time!

  2. I'm not as impressed with the number of tackles as I am the IMPACT plays he's making. Sacks, pressures, TFL's, causing fumbles, even had his hands on a few passes. THOSE are the ones I'm excited about and so far have him in the DROY running.

  3. I think some people (not knocking anyone) just gotta give the guy some time also. He's even talked about what a dark time this was in his life. This is like mile one in a long race after you've been hurt. It's human nature to maybe favor the recent injury a little when you're reintroduced back into a sport. We're positive he's healthy to play, but that doesn't mean he's clicking fully yet. Could be a combo of gun-shy, a little doubt maybe in his progressions?? Maybe he's short arming passes because he hasn't gotten his 'touch' back?? Still early in his comeback. He's proven in the past he can play well.

  4. Even 200 is an insane number of tackles. Most NFL tackle leaders get some number between 150 and 170 by the end of a season. As long as Leonard stays healthy he might just do it though. By January, I could be cooking up an extra-crispy batch of Kentucky Fried Crow for myself and the rest of us who thought that spending a 2nd round pick on him was just too high. The only question that remains is, do you serve red or white wine with crow?

  5. And it's not just the long ball. Even the intermediate length throws lack zip and velocity. The throw to TY to the sideline when he was absolutely open fluttered in the air like it was deflected or something and went from sure completion and 1st down to "oh wow, this one is 50-50" to ... "damn how did the defender not intercept that" incompletion simply because it didn't have the velocity. In that video above... just look at the pass interferences called on throws to TY deep... the reason they were pass interferences is because those were underthrown. The old Luck was leading TY in stride into the end zone on those same throws. This is again lack of arm strength. People would go to such lengths in order to comfort themselves and lie to themselves that everything is alright or it's all normal. Luck was never Josh Allen type thrower, but I never watched Luck and worried that he couldn't get the ball where it needs to go at the exact time he wanted it to be there. Now I do. To me it's obvious that he's limited. Don't listen to what Reich is saying, watch what he's doing(dink and dunk offense, taking him out on hail mary, etc.)... Luck had 5, 5, 4 yards per attempt in the first 3 games. This is insane. This is not normal. Let me put it in perspective... Running backs have about 4 yards per attempt in the league. We've turned Luck into the equivalent of a running back efficiency-wise. People are comparing him to Alex Smith, as if Alex Smith has ever been good enough to bring a team to the Superbowl. And just for the record - Alex Smith's yards per attempt for his career are 6.9 and have only dropped once under 7 in the last 8 years. Right now Luck is not Alex Smith. Right now Luck is MUCH MUCH worse. With that said, I don't agree with some of your takes @NewColtsFan. I don't think he's lacking in mental processing of the game or pocket presence. He still moves EXTREMELY well in the pocket and processes what's happening around him very well. IMO whenever he seems hesitant it's almost always because he's doing a double take about whether with his current armstrength he can fit the ball in the required window or he can throw it far enough. And IMO the 5 yard short to TY doesn't have much to do with his armstrength. It's just a bad throw, it happens to everybody once in a while. IMO the lack of arm-strength can be best seen on intermediate throws that require zip and on the long throws. I haven't really had much to complain about his accuracy/arm-strength on short throws.... I think it's good enough for that. Now the question is what part of the dink and dunk offense do we apportion to: 1. Luck's arm-strength limitations 2. Reich's system 3. OLine (missing OTs) consideration 4. Lack of good weapons Lets leave 1 unanswered for now. 2. Reich's system. He has never been a part of such an impotent passing offense and I refuse to believe that this is what he wants to run as offense in his ideal scenario. San Diego ranked 10th and 13th in yards per attempt (between 7.3 and 7.5) in the two years he was OC there. I really don't think Reich wants us to be this much of a dink and dunk offense, even if he likes to get the ball out of the QB's hands quickly. 3. OLine considerations - IMO this one is real. IMO this one definitely plays a part in the way Reich is calling the games. Our tackles are getting beat extremely quickly and if I had a franchise QB returning from serious injury, I'd want to protect him by making him get rid off the ball quickly, too. 4. Lack of good weapons - this IMO is a small factor and it's real. We do not have explosive weapons who can beat press-man coverage. Hilton is great but he's not a traditional press-man beater. He gets free on longer routes and IMO both the O-line and Luck right now are not able to secure this type of offense. But even with that said IMO we should still be able to get better/more efficient offense with Luck. In summary, IMO the reason for the dink and dunk offense are likely 3 and to what extent they all contribute to the problem is debatable but IMO all 3 are legit reason and some of them interplay with eachother. If I had to rank them I'd say the O-line and Luck's arm-strength are the main two with smaller influence from the receiving core that lacks weapons who can create after the catch.

  6. I had to remove several posts due to the topic being derailed and descending into drivel in places.

  7. No.... this does nothing to address any concerns. One throw means nothing. He under-threw a 5-yard slant to Hilton. Short-hopped it. How do you under throw a 5-yard slant. But Luck did. If my one throw is to be dismissed, then the same happens with this throw. My comments were were based on the entirety of Luck’s performance which I thought was shockingly poor. A level of regression I was not expecting. I have some hope for a bounce back this week. A home game against a division rival. A must win for both teams. Hope to see a different Andrew Luck this week.

  8. 1----- Probably the best running back in the league 2----- Help us immediately 3----- We got the money 4----- I think Andrew would appreciate it 5----- He wants to be here To survive in this league, you got to have the talent. We are, and have been, paying Andrew big money to lead this team, and we have pretty much wasted his talent, and his health because of the front office. You can pick your poison, poor drafting, poor coaching, or combination of both. We have a chance to sign an elite RB, which we need. No denying Bell has baggage, but that is why we pay the coaches, it falls to them, it's coaching. It's time to open the bank and get this team moving forward.

  11. People need to come to grips with the fact that Luck May just be a really good but not great player. There are are at least 100 QBs that get a shot at the nfl every decade and only a handful become “elite” and are in HOF discussion. No need to nitpick a player. I’m ok with Luck being “only” a good QB. We need to surround him with weapons and a proficient defense like most teams need to be successful. The days of Manning are over...It’s been almost 10yrs. If we would lower expectations to attainable results most would enjoy the team or certain players a lot more. Edit- Examples of good but not great QBs that I think Luck will most compare to when it’s all over. Boomer Esiason, Phillip Rivers, Steve McNair, Donavon McNabb, Drew Bledsoe...etc All excellent QBs and quality starters that had MVP quality seasons and also mediocre team seasons bc they must be surrounded by help.

  17. And 16 sacks, and 32 TFLs. Safe to say none of those paces will be maintained all season. But he's been phenomenal so far. He'll have to settle down when he has outside run contain, he's overrun several ball carriers and missed tackles because of it. But that's really the only complaint I have about his play so far. He's an easy favorite for Defensive ROY, and he's in the conversation for DPOY. Great pick by Ballard. Great job by the coaches in deploying him.

  18. I just read on another site that the Colts only drew 58,000 fans to their home opener three weeks ago. I don't know what the attendance projections are for this Sunday but if they are similar then you have an argument that could be made as an additional reason to sign Bell. I think acquiring him made sense before I read about the poor attendance. Acquiring him now in a close divisional race would generate huge excitement in Indy and I would expect help boost attendance for future home games. It shouldn't be the deciding factor, of course, but I would think Irsay has to be thinking about the marketing impact he could have.

  19. Hopefully, his tackles decrease as our Dline tackles increase.

  20. He’s exactly where I expected him to be. I thought September would be kinda rough considering the defenses they’re facing, & factor in starting tackles being out, plus no run game, it could honestly be a lot worse.

  21. Oh, Dear God..... Here we go again with another misguided thread... We can all agree to disagree on what level strength Andrew Luck once had. The bottom line is.... it doesn’t matter what he ONCE HAD, it only matters what he CURRENTLY has. Even the local media asked Reich on Monday if there was concern over Lucks lack of velocity. Luck actually short-hopped a 5-yard slant to Hilton. His arm is dramatically and clearly weaker. Something is not right with Andrew. Anyone denying this is sailing up the river Denial. By the way... regarding the last throw... the Hail Mary... Brisset’s pass traveled roughly 68-70 yards. Anyone remember Luck’s last throw of his Pro Day? 76 yards to Chris Owusu. The old Luck could’ve made that throw. The new one can’t come close...

  22. One of the reasons he held onto the ball was because he had the arm to get the ball down field about as well as anyone. Yes on Elite.

  23. He has shown different in past seasons. That fact. We're 3 weeks in, no reason to fret. If he is still having trouble in week 10, maybe

  24. Polian didn't believe in drafting guards high. He did find some good ones over the years. I was happy with the Nelson pick. Many disagree, but if he is our guard for 10 years, it was a good pick

  26. Just because he didn't throw it doesn't mean he could not have. Maybe the Coaches didn't see any reason to stress a still relatively newly recovered (probably still gaining strength) shoulder on a low percentage "Hail Mary" throw where we would not gain anything by having Luck throw it instead of Brissett.

  29. Walker. He's been playing really well and most of it has gone unnoticed because of the way Leonard has been playing. Now as we see teams start to adjust their blocking schemes to account for Leonard, someone is going to have to make them pay for that. I think Walker is that guy.

Simon: Ok...well I wasn't there long this year with the switch in defense....they want to do this this and this. Belicheck: Thank you. You are dismissed. You can collect your check at the desk in HR. You have been cut. Simon:Huh.....dang you!!

  34. You are falling int the trap that I fell into.......... Some of the good Colts fans on the forum helped straighten me out We CANT do a long term contract...... during the year I think he would be a great pickup, BUT..... I am very much cooling down to the idea I also HATE to give up future top draft picks....... they are our lifeblood If we could only give up our 3rd round pick....... I would do it but not if its a for a one year rental...... which it COULD become..... Here is a final point........ IF a deal is going to be done..... It would probably be done sooner vs later....... IMHO if a deal doesnt get done in the next week, he is probably going to stay a Steeler for this year...... He gets a little less valuable every day that a trade doenst happen...

  35. Listening to Polian on the Dakich show. I feel better about Ballard, Reich, Luck, Leonard and Hooker. Not that I had a bad feeling. But listening to Polian he sees stuff I don't see and he puts things in good perspective. It's worth the listen. Might calm some of us. Also listening to him I can see our draft next year. In order of priority. OT, DE, WR, RB, CB. DE 2nd only if your top 5 is still there to pick. Or go BA with the next 3. Starting talent OT isn't going to be there past pick 50. No matter what our record is this year. I think we heading in the right direction. I think us as fans should support and be patient.

  36. Polian was just making a point that, in order to consistently win, you need elite talent. Dallas Clark was a game-breaking TE. Doyle, is not, fumbles the ball and we lose. Reggie Wayne could do everything. TY has limitations, and is not a good red zone threat. If Colts had top shelf WR and TE, we are easily 3-0

  39. I can't believe people think Reich was calling for short throws. A few things... one, there are other receivers. What routes did they run... were they 'open'? Doesn't the QB have the ability to- 1. go through progressions... hit the most open receiver 2. change a play... get out of a bad play and into a good play The QB in 2 minute drill mode is as/more important then the HC/OC. The Colts prior drive deep into Eagles Redzone showed Luck's skills at moving the team a long way in a short period of time. At the Colts beginning of the last drive, the Eagles radio announcers called it before it happened. They mentioned the Eagles would play off and force short plays and Colts would try to get far enough downfield in the minimal time left to attempt a Hail Mary. It exactly played out that way.

  41. LOL You don't need to be a doctor or physical therapist to tell his game right now is a long ways off from his first three years in the league. Just watch the games. Obviously, if you expect him to return to that level of play it will take some time...assuming he ever does. No one knows for sure right now if he will or won't. Time will tell.

  42. Agree. Luck was never Rodgers...but he could make 96% of the throws. He’s not close to there yet.
