A look at the roster ( WR- O-line)

WR: the biggest concern will be at what level will Reggie return, for various reasons, I think he will be back- near where he left off, but age is catching up at 36, he is not trending upward. Hilton has established himself as one the leagues best young WR's and like many of the young players, will continue to get better. Whalen, Brazill and Rogers all showed promise, with the first 2 having some exceptional games, Rogers probably has the highest upside of the trio. Heyward-Bey is a free agent and is ...gone

* depending on how that trio is viewed by the Colts, I don't see this as a need area, if they are concerned that those guys can't get it done, they may add some players

OL: the biggest and highest priority for the last....long time, n-e-e-d-s to be u-p-g-r-a-d-e-d!!!!!!! Castonzo and Cherilus seem to have the outside covered, both are good- not great players. The inside, is where the problems are, Thomas will be back and should handle one of the Guard positions, there is talk of moving McGlynn to Center, either way Satele has not been good since his arrival, Nixon looked good when he got some reps, the 2 rookies did not show much, Thortan got lots of reps and Holmes was a non factor-who is also a possibilty at Center. Satele is still under contact , so he will probably be back and playing , with the goal of getting another Guard to solidify that unit. McGlynn and Linkenbach add valuable versatility, both are free agents along with Reitz

* at least 1 new starter and preferably 2 , there are plenty of options for depth/versatility, the talent level at the starting group needs to improve

We've got to upgrade our O-line!  Whether it's re-shuffling, draft or FA we got to upgrade it.

Wayne is nearing the end of his career with age and injury so we also need to find a successor.  I see Hilton as a great #2 with Whalen and Brazil great complimentary WR.  Rodgers has potential but needs to elevate his game to another level.  Hopefully with the upcoming camp the wr corps will be able to raise the bar.

I have more confidence with the wr corps coming around than the O-line. With the wr or rb's you could spread the ball around you can't with the O-line.  With that said one player may be able to stabilize the line.

Satele will (or at least should) be cut. I think we need to hit free agency for a C (Brian De La Puente is most likely, Eric Dietrich-Smith is a possibility too). With Thomas coming back, either Thornton is the other assumed starter (McGlynn is not) or we look to improve the position through free agency or draft. I like picking up prospect Dakota Dozier in the 3rd round if we go the draft route.

i think its about time to quit using the bandaid approach on the o-line and find some quality players!! that was suppossed to be what last years draft was about and maybe they will develope in time???? wr wont be as big a need area with allen coming back as well, he was a huge loss

thanks for the input Kaptain Kod

While this is interesting conversation, it's the defense that needs the upgrade more than anything else.  We gave up 44 to KC in the playoffs and 43 to NE in round 2.  Yes, I know some of those points were due to Luck interceptions, but defensive upgrades are the solution.

Good point peyton318 but our response was to OL/WR needs.  Colts7 did one on RB/QB/TE now this and hopefully he's next blog will be on defensive or ST.

No bad on any of us but for me I'll wait till Colts7 comes out with his defensive blog.

I think that we need to look into signing Jonathan Martin and hopefully the offensive lineman from Notre Dame slips into the late second round so we can get him

I'm amazed at how cavalier a lot of people Grigson and Pagano included

are with Andrew Luck's health. Oh they talked about it all last off season

but when it came down to actually getting NFL caliber Olineman well we

got Trent Richardson instead and went ALL IN. Satele and McGlynn belong in the arena league, so cut the bums and bring in some TALENT.

Donald Thomas started 7/16 games for New England in 2012 and 2/16 forthe Colts, Hall of Fame career right there boys.Dear Ryan Grigson if last years free agent signings were as shiny as the Gold Rolex Watch I see on wrist then maybe you wouldn't be gunshy about signing anymore

free agents.

Yeah Grigson! You didn't even sign two relatively high profile free agent linemen during the offseason and didn't even draft two more! Why are you ignoring the O-Line?!

We need a strong mauler type center a vet OG to help Hugh and thats it not like we have the Falcons % o-line.

The interior of our offensive line should be priority #1 for Grigson as we seen our franchise (in Andrew Luck)laid out on the ground WAY TOO MANY TIMES. Yes, Costanzo whiffed a few times as did Cherilus...but for the most part the edge seems to be above average. It seems that the units weakest link is @ center. Satele was brought in with hopes of him reaching his full potential as the quarterback of the offensive line. Unfortunately(for Andrew Luck/Trent Richardson/ Donald Brown) this plan hasn't been one of the best moves. I thought we made a mistake last off-season in letting Denver swindle Valasquez from San Diego as we chose to not spend the money required for a top tier OG, settling by adding D Thomas to the roster instead of powering up by signing Valasquez or LeVitre. We have yet to see how this move works in Indys FAVOR as Thomas missed the majority of the season on IR.. pair that with the questionable big contracts given to some avg def players and we could've had more then enough cash to land one of the too two guards last season. Back to the issue with Satele...he isn't that good, period. A line is only as good as the man lined up beside them. Having The Weakest Link in the middle destabilizes the entirety...how good can Thorton be? Can Thomas be the wall Luck needs? These questions are hard to answer while Satele continues snapping the ball. With the versatility that has become defensive schemes and stunts, the offensive line must be able to trust not only themselves but need to trust that the man beside them will do their job too! De La Puente or Smith would be a substantial upgrade for this unit if Coach Chud cannot convince Alex Mack to come to Indianapolis with him by way of Cleveland. Cutting Satele will free up 5.5 mil against the cap helping to make signing a impact center much more feasible. And I am a big fan of bringing Jonathan Martin to Indy. Not only could he be a more than capable backup at tackle, but I think his versatility would bode well for competition at OG...Getting Dwayne Allen back at TE IS HUGE!!! HE IS A MONSTER!!! If Irsay Is Ready to spend some cash, Grigson can committ to creating a smash mouth unit that will play Colt football and travel into hostile environments with a maulers mentality!!!!!! How much better our offense can be if we are willing to spend the $$$$ GOHorse

Satele will not be back.......cutting him will cost 1 mill in dead cap and free up 4 mill.......not likely he will return in a colts uniform.......i hope

Satele was traded multiple times before signing with the Colts in 2012....In college he played mostly guard until his senior year.....In his short NFL career before the Colts......... scouts recommended he play guard, it is clear he is not a center.  I have no idea why he got the contract he did from us, but he is WAY overpaid.

Evan Dietrich-Smith-----needs to be sought after.  Pro Football focus ranked him +14 at center.....second to Alex Mack @ +17.....even better than Brian De La Puente for the Saints.  He is young and could be signed for about the same against the cap as Satele.  Lets GO Grigs!  Go Colts
