Buffalo Bills

1.12 - Denzel Ward, CB

1.22 - Taven Bryan, DT

2.21 - Mason Rudolph, QB

2.24 - Orlando Brown, OT

3.01 - Joseph Noteboom, OT

3.32 - Micah Kiser, ILB

4.21 - Martinas Rankin, OG/OT (C)

The Bills had three glaring needs in this draft, QB, ILB and virtually all *itions along the OL, and I just couldn't make it happen in the first.  Both Tremain Edmunds and Roquan Smith were gone by the 12th pick and I was hoping one of them would be there if I could not move up to take Baker Mayfield and unfortunately, I was forced into a BPA situation at 1.12, which is okay because Denzel Ward will get some time to be apart of a special backfield while he matures as a football prospect with the likes of Phillip Gains, Vontae Davis, and Tre'Davius White plus Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer.

At 2.22, I thought about drafting Lamar Jackson, but I just couldn't pull the trigger - I saw him more as a Round 2 QB, plus Mason Rudolph was still on the board and I like him a great deal.  I was hoping for Vander Esch but he went a couple of picks before me so I went with the guy I thought would improve an average at best interior DL unit, Taven Bryan.

Round 2 I didn't need to reach for QB and while Rudolph might not be the long-term answer, he has enough upside and PFF as well as some other evaluators seem to think Rudolph has a chance.  He won't be Tom Brady, but in the right system, that's sort of his skill set - has all the right tools to make every throw, but will just need time to become a more consistent passer.

Three of my next 4 picks were along the offensive line.  The only stability we had prior to entering the draft was RT Dion Dawkins.  On paper, Brown, Noteboom and Rankin are OTs, but Rankins projects as an OC or OG.  Brown will stay at OT but Notboom could conceivably play OG as well as Dion Dawkins (who was also a candidate to kick inside because his inconsistent footwork and stiff hips would be less a liability at OG).  The Bills needed flexible players along the line and we not only did that, but we did it at a bargain.

Micah Kiser was the only ILB drafted and the Bills need two of them, so they could address it later in rounds 5-7.  What the Bills want in an ILB is a rangy LB who can cover and Micah Kiser is not that guy.  What's worse is I reached for this pick, and made it when Jerome Baker was available (who is the rangy guy they'd rather have).  I thought he had been drafted and then saw he was taken a few picks later.  The GM was busy with an unruly toddler and it caused him to miss an opportunity.

Arizona Cardinals

1.7 Baker Mayfield, QB, Oklahoma

3.79 Anthony Averett, CB, Alabama

4.134 Geron Christian, OT, Louisville

Needless to say, the Cardinals gave up a 1,2, and 3 to move up from No.15 to No.7 with the Bucs to get their franchise QB, Baker Mayfield, who they never thought would make it there.

Since they had two third rounders, one of their third rounder was used on Anthony Averett who played 5 years for Nick Saban and learned a lot of nuances of the CB spot since he played QB and WR in high school a lot. The Cardinals' No.2 had always been picked on and Anthony's speed and sticky coverage abilities should help them.

Geron Christian, he played both RT and LT for Lamar Jackson, and his swing tackle abilities will allow him to find a role at the next level, and help with the Cardinals' OL.

Denver Broncos

Round 1

1.5 Saquon Barkley, RB, Penn State

1.27 Will Hernandez, OG, UTEP*

*traded picks 40 and 71 to move to 27

Round 2

No Picks

Round 3

3.35 Jerome Baker, ILB, Ohio State

Round 4

4.6 Kyzir White, S, West Virginia

4.13 Jeff Holland, EDGE, Auburn

This draft was about getting our franchise RB and a top lineman that can run block for him in Will Hernandez. Offered a few people a trade before finally getting one accepted at pick 27. After that, we went 3 defensive players that all have a chance to make a huge impact on the team from day 1. Very good draft for the Denver Broncos.

Atlanta Falcons:

Round 1.26: Rashaan Evans, LB, Alabama (NFL comparison Lawrence Timmons)

Round 2.58: Mike Gesicki, TE, Penn State (NFL comparison Jimmy Graham)

Round 3.90: Tim Settle, DT, Virginia Tech (NFL comparison Vince Wilfork)

Round 4.126: Antonio Callaway, WR, Florida (My comparison is Tyreek Hill)

Pairing Rashaad Evans with current Falcons LB star Deion Jones would instantly upgrade their LB corp so that they are not waiting for the emergence of their former rookie (now 2nd year player) Duke Riley who had been more miss than hit.

Falcons had not had a viable threat at TE since Tony Gonzalez left, Austin Hooper does not scare anyone at all, and with Julio and Sanu on the outside and having lost Taylor Gabriel in the slot, they needed someone with good hands for the seam routes. Mike Gesicki is that guy, has all the traits like a Jimmy Graham and if he improves his blocking, could end up like Gronk, he has a great ceiling.

With the departure of Dontari Poe and Adrian Clayborn, they needed someone in the middle light enough on his feet but also make plays vs the run and pass. Tim Settle seems like a natural fit for that.

Last but not least, had to wait till day 3 of the draft to take a chance on a guy with questionable character. With enough veterans on the Falcons squad, feel like Antonio Callaway will be in check and this was a chance taken with huge upside, much bigger upside than what Taylor Gabriel gave them, IMO.

I felt that lots of talent was indeed added to the Falcons squad and a lot of their issues last year were offensive woes. :)

Pretty solid draft. Andrews is a high 2nd round guy to me you got in the 3rd. Very good WR and OT. The RB I would of got a defensive player for, maybe a LB, but it's still solid. Good draft.

Love this draft, possibly the best on the forum. Every pick works. Great job!

Dislike the second round for the Colts Nick Chubb at 36 is an overreach especially with James Daniels available who is a 1st/early second round guy he mainly plays C but we can move either him or Kelly to G then we have two versatile players,(there are other good OL available but he is Best OL available) and not a fan of Deon Cain at 49. While we need a WR I don't like the receivers in this draft and don't think any of them are worth 1/2 round picks. I would either trade this pick or go RB at 49 like Penny. Also don't like how we traded back into the second, we need more picks not less there is good talent in the 3rd and 4th rounds that I don't think is worth losing

The Redskins entered the 2018 offseason in need of an identity.  The Kirk Cousins era, grounded in production measurables, and marked by overpriced free agents with few home grown drafted players, is over.  Cousins is gone, after soaking the team with multiple one-year franchise deals.  Wide receivers Pierre Garcon and DeSean Jackson are long gone, and their replacement, free agent Terrelle Pryor, was a bust.  It was over, and after the dust cleared, they didn't know who they were.

So, what do they have?  The offensive line is not only stable, but good, with five returning starters and two Pro Bowlers.  Their tight end, Jordan Reed, is the focus of their offense.  They had the 9th rated passing defense, with Pro Bowl alternate cornerback Josh Norman.

In free agency, they accomplished the two biggest things they needed to do.  They re-signed ILB Zach Brown, who lead the league in tackles for most of the season before being injured (again).  And they found a quality quarterback in Alex Smith, who threw for 4,000 yards, 26 touchdowns, and only 5 picks for the Chiefs last year.  Their need for a quarterback was obvious, but without a 3rd round pick to trade, there was no way they could participate in the QB derby in this year's draft.  In Smith, they got a known commodity, quality and steady leadership, and maybe a few years' production before finding their QB of the future.

But what about the team identity?  I took the clue from last year's draft, where they picked Alabama DE Jonathan Allen and Alabama OLB Ryan Anderson with their first two picks.  They would import the Crimson Tide identity, lock, stock, and barrel.

Round 1, pick 13 - Calvin Ridley, WR, Alabama

Redskins fulfill their #1 need by taking the best WR in the draft.  Ridley is an excellent route runner, who can get separation without possessing true see ya speed.  He's lean and averse to heavy contact, but he's dynamic and explosive, and cool-headed at game time.

Round 2, pick 44 - Da'Shawn Hand, DE, Alabama

I really wanted Ronnie Harrison at this pick.  Player for player, he's better than Hand, and deserved the mid 2nd round pick.  But he got swiped up by the Vikings right in front of me.  Hand is a powerful 3-4 DE with explosive upper body strength and a powerful leg drive.  He arrives with bad intentions, and dominates his man effectively.  He'll match up well as a bookend to fellow Alabama alum Jonathan Allen, last year's #1 pick.  The team will no longer be ranked 32nd vs the run, that's for sure.

Round 3 - No Pick

Round 4, pick 109 - Tony Brown, CB, Alabama

This pick was made for me while I struggled at work with spreadsheets, meetings, and executive incompetence.  But it's the guy I wanted at this spot.  Brown has world class blurr speed, but had yet to fully put it all together to be a starter on the outside in the Crimson Tide defense.  They mostly used him in the nickle, lining up in both man and zone coverage.  He doesn't need to start right away, and can get a better education in both the p o s i t i o n and being a professional from veteran Josh Norman.

Overall, I was pleased with how the draft turned out for the Potomac Drainage Basin Indigenous Persons.  The Alabama experiment worked as well as could be expected.  And the Persons are well on their way to installing their new team identity.

Roll Persons!

(edit - had to overcome the built in prof filter to spell a simple word)

I like the players you picked (on vacuum) but I don't think you addressed the Falcons needs very well.. But even from value perspective, I don't think Evans in the 1st makes that much sense. They have Devondre Campbell who is good and either him or Evans (probably the latter next year) would be the 3rd LB and the Falcons usually play nickel a lot like the most of the league, meaning the 3rd LB would sit on the bench on most defensive snaps. LB (along with CB, OT, QB) was Falcons best *ition already. Campbell and Deion are under contract for 2 more years.

Gesicki pick makes sense in many ways, my TE #1.

But DT and OG are the biggest issues on Falcons roster. They still have Levitre but has shown decline already and they don't much on the other side. They have no NFL caliber DT besides Jarrett, savefor Shelby and Crawford but they are on the small end and more of a DE/DT hybrids and are basically JAGs. If even that. I like Settle but thought it was interesting to wait until the 3rd to address it and use only one pick on DT.

I don't mean to pick on you, like I said, I think the players you picked are good but were not the best value for your team (save for Gesicki) or didn't address the needs very well. I thought that stood out compared to others.

I don't mean to pick on you, like I said, I think the players you picked are good but were not the best value for your team (save for Gesicki) or didn't address the needs very well. I thought that stood out compared to others.

Evans is more of a WLB with speed, and there is a good chance he might be on the field in nickel situations, at least the Falcons fans think so based on how they think he will fit in if drafted.

OG - All the 1st round ones were gone when Evans' pick came up, and the same round where I got Gesicki was also the round I could have gotten a decent OG, IMO, and I had to choose. Otherwise, I had to reach in round 1. Tim Settle at DT and Gesicki were good fits, no doubt.

DTs cannot play special teams like LBs can, and more situational DTs are always available in rounds 5 and later, but we didn't do a round 5, so filling needs with too many DTs by round 4 is not a necessity, IMO. NFL is filled with run down DTs and DLs drafted in rounds 5 and later. This draft is definitely deep enough on the DT position, IMO.

But you are right on the OG part. Antonio Callaway was more of a risk pick but I felt the risk was worth the reward over a bottom tier OG at that point. Hey, it was fun mocking it!!! No mock is going to be perfect. I am sure there will be veteran OGs cut/signed around and after pre-season, like Evan Mathis was a few seasons ago, so that is always a possibility for an experienced OL unit like the Falcons have. But then, the OG position is a deep one in this draft too. That is why I feel there will be quality round 4 and round 5 guys to be had for the trenches in this draft.

I always appreciate the input, just thought I'd give you my thought process too. If you put your draft out there, there will be opinions. :)

Hey, just wanted to let you know the Falcons did wait till Round 3 to address the DT position. They had 1 skill position and another defensive player in the first 2 rounds and have not addressed the OG position yet. :)

I think I did a better job at drafting players than my Vikings did. haha

My picks for the Vikings:

2nd. #41: Ronnie Harrison, S, Alabama (surprised he dropped to #93 to the Jags. What a defense the Jags will have!

2nd. #64: Austin Corbett, C/G, Nevada (Was taken at the top of the 3rd)

3rd. #94: Ian Thomas, TE, Indiana (not yet drafted)

3rd #95: Temoko Turay, LB/DE, Rutgers (selected by your Colts. I did not know much about him but the Vikings site said the Vikes liked him.)

4th Rd #104: Holton Hill, CB, Texas (is still available to be drafted)

So far the Vikes have drafted Mike Hughes, CB, UCF and Brian O'Neill, OL, Pitt. They traded back in the 3rd and will have a high 4th round pick (2nd pick). I don't like their approach. It makes more sense to draft fewer but better players since we don't have that many roster spots. We can load up on UDFAs to fill up the 90 man roster but in the draft we should have tried to get better players. The Vikes have 5 or 6 picks (so far) today.

Edit: Vikes have 8 picks today.
