You can see both Patricia & McDaniels sending in the play calls from the sideline, but I do agree that Bill is much more involved with the defensive side of the ball. At any given time you'll see him pull defensive players aside on the sideline and draw things up on his dry erase board. I don't see him doing that with the offensive guys.

Exactly but for some reeason everyone thinks Bill is running the offense and doing everything and the rest just stand there like decorations

It's simple. Go get the best of both worlds...

McDaniels as HC and to build the offensive system and coaches.

Then go grab CAR's LB coach, Al Holcomb, to be the DC. Holcomb helped Kuechly and Thomas Davis become arguably the best LB group in the league. The ILB position is arguably the biggest need on this team...and needs a completely new direction. Holcomb could help bring that. And Holcomb has coached on two different Super Bowl teams...including the NYG defense that beat NE in 2011 (though McDaniels was not there).

I have no idea if they even know each other...but that would be a pretty cool scenario to play out.

I'd have zero issues with this.

I'm fully on board. The one thing that I'd be curious about is whether he'd have playcalling duties like Andy Reid did has always done, or if he'd delegate to his OC.

I don't know either but either way he's bringing his system and that's what I'm ready for

It's the KC connection lol

When it was first reported maybe. But it’s way more than that. Remember that they’ve actually worked together since their time on the Bears. All together they worked together for a decade. Toub has also had HC interviews before.

Failing is part of the learning process.  Especially for a guy who by his own admission was too young for the job at the time.  Doesn't bother me in the slightest.

Agree 100 % on this.

McDaniels only rubs the weenie fans the wrong way who are mad because he's from the pats staff

Weenie fans? Maybe they are thinking it's the Belichick system that makes his assistants note worthy?  The success rate so far has been dismal.

It has nothing to Do with success or failure a lot of people don't want him cause he's from NE

Preferably the kind of personality that does not rub the players the wrong way.

In Denver, he tried to be Belichick, Parcells and Bob Knight before he had the resume.  From what I've read, he seems to have grown up and realizes he needs to adopt a different attitude in the year 2018.

I don't think it matters who's coming in, he's going to rub someone the wrong way, whether it be fans, certain players, etc, it's unavoidable. No coach is going to please everybody, until wins start to accumulate. That's really the only thing everyone can agree on, and even then, some people will take issue.

Chuck gave plenty of over-the-top rah rah speeches in the beginning, but eventually mellowed

Yeah, you're right about that haha. I was referring more to on-field coaching style, Xs and Os, etc. If you want strange pressers and teary-eyed locker room speeches, Chuck's your guy. But if you want an innovative, aggressive, offensive tactician, that's not really his "wheel house."

FWIW, it's being reported on nfl.com that Ballard and McDaniels already have a very good relationship (which I was unaware of), and that there's a very good chance he's the guy.

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000903010/article/playoff-sleeper-team-nfl-personnel-men-hyping-atlanta-falcons

Excerpt:

"And don't overlook that Patriots OC Josh McDaniels' first interview was with the Colts on Wednesday night. McDaniels knows (and has a good relationship with) Ballard -- a critical factor for McDaniels, the most coveted candidate in this cycle, as he decides where to take his second shot as a head coach. If McDaniels wants the job, it might be his."

Interesting excerpt from the article stating that Toub was not part of the initial round of requests although Nagy was.  Not ruling Toub out of course but interesting to note we hear about Nagy but not Toub.

I agree. I'm starting to think that the front office feels they have a very legitimate opportunity to mimic the Rams' drastic turnaround, but they know they'll need an innovative, modern, offensive mind at HC to pull it off. That's speculation on my part, and goes against what Ballard said in the presser, but it's just my gut feeling.

Could be Ballard knows Toub the best so hes waiting to talk to him?:dunno:

Could be but he knows Nagy pretty well to.  Wouldn't you want to get him in the que anyway?  You could always schedule him last if you want.  BTW According to A. Breer Vrabel interviews tomorrow.

Funny how Colts fans now want to replicate New England’s offense when they started trying to replicate Indy’s offense after losing to us in the 06-07 AFC Championship game.  They just evolved to dink and dunk specialists with the greatest system QB of all-time in Brady.  Copy cat league indeed.  McDaniels won’t have Brady or Bellichick to help him look good in Indy if he gets the gig.

You would think, but I get the feeling Ballard and Toub go way back, hell he Ballard if they are friends may have had an informal interview already. OR maybe he isn't a candidate which is intersecting on its own seeing how so many had already anointed him the next Colt coach?

If he gets the job he might not need either of them!

If he gets the job...let’s hope.  New England coaching assistants rarely thrive though once they leave the nest.  Until Josh is able to show any different I will continue to have concerns about him or anyone else from that coaching tree.

Yes that's what's perplexing.  If it's him all he really needs to do is get Irsay's approval.  He knows who he is and what he's getting.  Maybe he isn't a candidate?  Maybe they are very good friends and he doesn't want to have to face the reality that he may have to fire him someday if it doesn't work out.  So he let's him go to another team ,say Chicago, and he chooses someone else.  He has a strong list to choose from.

BB is not coaching anywhere but NE if he leaves there he is done he's too old and won too much to care about getting another job

And if he somehow left that prolly helps us even more why would Josh stay with a sinking team they have no backup and the QB is in his 40s they would be in the fast lane to sucking
