Maurice Hurst

Recommended Posts

DT out of Michigan, I know we have depth and skill at the DT postion but this guy has the Geno Atkins mold. Our problem this year with the D-line has been pushing the interior of the pocket, Sheard has done a great job of getting pressure but most of the time he's the only one who is in the QB's face which is why his sack count is low this year. I think Hurst could really help push the interior of the pocket and fill the void the colts have at interior pass rush.

Pff rants and raves about him. heres what they have to say

  • University of Michigan defensive tackle Maurice Hurst enters the 2017 college football season as a PFF Day 1 projection for the 2018 NFL draft and ranks among the top defensive interior prospects in the country.
  • Hurst has performed at a very high level each of the past two seasons, grading in the top 20 among all interior defensive lineman each season. Hurst’s 2016 grade of 86.3 overall ranks within the top 10 of returning players at his position for 2017.
  • When on the field, few players have been as productive as Hurst. He has been dominant as a pass-rusher and against the run. His 15.3 pass rush productivity in 2016 ranked No. 1 among all 2016 draft-eligible interior defensive lineman while his 11.6 run stop percentage finished him No. 6 in this draft class.
  • Over the last two seasons, Hurst has only played a total of 758 snaps and hasn’t yet produced at the high level he’s shown capable of over a full season. With the departures of drafted 2016 prospects, Hurst should have an opportunity see more snaps.

There isn't a position on this team that the Colts couldn't use help at. Its not a high ranking one, but interior DL is an underrated need on this team. Our run defense was better than usual this year but aside from Hankins, most of the players are "just a guy" and they offer no pass rush from the interior. If we had more interior pass rush, it would help the OLB's in getting sacks. I wouldn't mid Hurst or Vita Vea tbh. Just not top 10.

Thinking about it a little longer, and there is some underrated talent for interior defensive lineman in this draft. Vita Vea at NT would be incredible for our line. I also like Lowell Loutelei late. At 5-Tech you have Taven Bryan, Harrison Phillips, Andrew Brown, Raseem Green, etc...

    • I’ll have to search for Hicks’ break-down.  I hadn’t seen much tape of Bowers until a couple of weeks ago when I watched a highlight reel, and that was very impressive.  I’m just nervous about how hard it seems to be to predict TE success…
    • I was thinking a bit about what Ballard said in that clip from "Behind the Colts", about "he's not going to get much bigger". No idea if he was talking about Worthy... but if he is... he's right. Whether Worthy ends up playing at 165 or 176... this is still extremely small and light. Whether he's in the 1st percentile or 5th percentile of athlete's in weight in the league, this doesn't change the type of player and type of worries you would have about him with any significance. So... in a way, I kind of find that conversation a bit pointless. IMO the question should be - okay. he is small... and he will always be small. Can we work with that? And can we live with the risk of injury for that small of a player? And the answer can be no here... I'm not saying we necessarily need to take that risk.
    • You think the Ed Dodds you see in edited clips here is the same as the Ed Dodds who interviews with teams?   I don’t know you or anyone would think that?      He’s very much respected around the NFL which is why multiple teams ask to interview with them most every year.
