Which Players are You Excited to see in the Pre-Draft Events?

Recommended Posts

So there's 3 major offseason events that are held for players entering the draft: The East-West Shrine Game, the Reese's Senior Bowl, and the NFL Combine. So who is on your watch list for each Event? Links for the players who have accepted invites to the events are below:

Senior Bowl (Jan.27th) Accepted Invites: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000880317/article/prospects-that-have-accepted-invites-to-2018-senior-bowl

EWS (Jan. 20th): http://www.shrinegame.com/acceptances

My list is as follows:

EWS

1. Tegray Scales, ILB Indiana

2. Jake Wieneke, WR South Dakota State

3. K.C. McDermott, OT Miami

4. Zachary Crabtree, OT Oklahoma State

Summary: Scales is said to be an athletic LB but unspectacular overall. Interested to see how he does in coverage. Wieneke I believe could be a late round project at WR that can eventually replace Moncrief. McDermott and Crabtree are both developmental tackles that I could see win the RT spot in a camp battle with our guys, and could be future LT's.

Senior Bowl:

1. Royce Freeman, RB Oregon

2. Rashad Penny, RB San Diego State

3. Darius Leonard, ILB South Carolina State

4. Skai Moore, ILB South Carolina

5. Harold Landry, OLB BC

6. Will Hernandez, OG UTEP

Summary: Freeman and Penny are mid round backs who I think we could look at to compliment Mack. Leonard is a guy who I have trouble finding tape on but I hear he's 6'2" 230 and runs in the 4.6's. Scouts love what they've seen from him. Moore is a LB that's supposed to be beastly in coverage as he has a bunch of INT's but hes thin at 220 pounds. I've hear on WF that some scouts see him as a LB/S tweener. Landry is a top 3 pass rusher in this draft but because of a dissapointing season highlighted by getting shut down by McGlinchey and Nelson vs Notre Dame, he could drop to the 2nd round. I'm curious to see how he does in 1-on-1's. Hernandez is the 2nd best guard in this class but doesn't have ideal length. I just want to see how he does in 1-on-1's. There will be plenty of competition for him as guys like Andrew Brown, Derrick Nnadi, and Maurice Hurst will also be there. Want to see him against higher levels of competition.

At the combine I'm really looking forward to seeing all the LB's run. We need a speedy, athletic LB who can cover and there are several in this draft. I need to see what they run though. I don't expect Riddick numbers but I'd like to see a couple guys in the 4.6-high 4.7 range. I think Rashan Evans could possibly blow up the combine at his position. I've also got my eyes on Bradley Chubb. For all the top 5 hype he's getting, he better have elite testing.

Edit: Also forgot to add Uchenna Nwosu, OLB from USC. I think he's a real sleeper as a pass rusher. The guy is pretty versatile and has a bunch of passes batted. He reminds me of a better Barkevious Mingo.

I don't have a list, but I am curious to see how Rolland-Jones from Arkansas State does in pre-draft workouts.  He was productive in College 43 1/2 sacks in four years, lower level competition being in the Sun Belt Conference.  He is listed at 6' 2" 244lbs on the Arkansas State website.

    • Yeah... Richardson needs players who can separate and who can get open deep. IMO "give the inaccurate QB a contested catch receiver with large catch radius" is one of the tropes that hasn't proven to work well. Contested catches have about 50-55% success rate even with the best of contested catch receivers and with relatively accurate QBs... now if you think AR's accuracy is not good, drop that rate even more. The best way to give a relatively inaccurate QB better chance to complete passes is to give him a WR who separates and and who is open so the QB would have more of a margin for error to throw the ball a little behind or ahead or a little higher or lower than ideal. (we are not talking about uncatchable balls here... those will be uncatchable for anyone really). In that regard, one thing I would agree about is - we need WRs who have good hands and have good ball skills.   And this is ignoring that AR has indeed been pretty good with his accuracy on passes at intermediate and long range. His biggest problem coming into the league was the short stuff and he was already showing improvements in that deparment before he got injured.    And Worthy is the WR who created the most separation from anybody in this draft :
    • Richardson  accuracy  on deep balls is his strength.  Hence why you pair an elite deep threat in worthy.
    • No.   You weren’t.   If you were the least bit sincere, we’d be having these conversations in private.  But you’ve repeatedly ignored my efforts to do that.  Your call.      Then you avoid me until I’m in an uncomfortable conversation with another poster.   You use that awkward moment as an excuse for you to come in with some sincere friendly advice.   The problem is, you’re neither sincere, nor friendly.  And you’ve been doing this for months now.  This is not new.   The pattern is clear and obvious.     And the shame of it all is that even with our different views on Ballard we have enough in common that we should be friendly.  Maybe not friends, but friendly.  You wouldn’t need to address me as “Sir.”    “Good deed going unpunished”.  You flatter yourself.     But your actions speak much louder than your words.   There’s no reason for me to trust you.  And here we are.  A real shame.
