It's like they just didn't want him to get the consecutive starts record. He has just become the starter again. And it had nothing to do with Smith inability to play.

He wasn't going to get that consecutive starts record to begin with Favre played for 20 years I really doubt Eli would play that long to be honest.

It was already tainted. He started the Raiders game injured when they were the Browns of the league 1 year. I love Eli so I won't repeat this again but it's been mentioned so many times so...

 

Speaking of the Browns though, the whole benching thing was done like it was the Browns. This will be something the NFL Network laughs about during the NFL Top 10 episodes for years.
