About those late game timeouts..........

Never mind the one lost to the challenge. It was a desperate move by Pags, one that at this point I've just come to expect from the guy.

But what I don't get is.....with 2:15 (ish) left, and two timeouts, after the Colts stopped the Titans on first down, why did Pagano just let it go to the 2 minute warning? Even if they got the 2 stops and stopped the clock after the two minute warning, they would have had around 1:45 to 1:50 without timeouts.

But if Pags calls his 2 timeouts on first and second down before the two minute warning, and then they get a stop on third, they would have 2 full minutes and maybe okay field position. A.K.A Colts would have 10 to 15 more seconds to maybe mount a drive (which, without timeouts is pretty big).

And yes, I get it's a moot point because Henry got the first down, but if Pags calls his TO right there, even if the Titans get a first, he would still have a timeout and the two minute warning to work with.

I don't know, maybe I'm over thinking this (I'm tired and the Colts just lost again, can ya blame me? haha), but it's these little things that have slowly but surely made me want Pagano gone more and more (and this is coming from someone who wanted him to stay after the 15' season).

I can sort of see both sides of it. I think he should of taken the time outs earlier rather than letting it run down to 2 min, but on the other hand I can also see how it makes sense to hold on to the stoppages you can control for when you need them, rather than potentially relying on one that you cant control.

If we took the time out and forced a turnover the next play wed be kicking ourselves as wed have one less time out and with our luck the 2 min warning would occur during the possession change. Wed be saying Pags mismanaged the time outs and left us down one on the ensuing comeback drive.

Either way its a moot point because our defense couldnt make the stop.

Pagano gonna Pagano.

It just is what it is. He believes it's right. He's made these kinds of decisions before, he's defended them when he has, and he continues to think he's right. No one is going to correct him or make him feel otherwise.

It just is what it is. :hide:

This Pagano gonna Pagano you call the timeout there because if you do rip the ball out you want to give the offense as much time as you can.

What coach in their right mind wastes 15 seconds at the end of a game where you’re trailing by 7 & need to get the ball back???  How, after your defense holds them to a decent stop on 1st down, are you not running on the field YELLING for a timeout?  What was going through Chuck’s mind?

15 seconds is an eternity...  That could be 3 shots to the end zone at the end of a game...   He must’ve still been shell shocked from the bad challenge...  I really think the pressure is getting to Chuck & causing him to overthink situations and make even more questionable decisions than usual.

    • FWIW:  sometimes when a player like Blackmon gets a one year deal it’s the players call as much if not more than the front office.   The player believes in themselves and are wanting a one year deal so they can go back into free agency sooner.  They view a multiyear deal as below market value.   Blackmon’s deal has a base plus incentives.  It’s not an insult.

    • Spencer Rattler better than Michael Penix Jr and Nix. Wow! That has to be one of the most ridiculous takes I have ever heard. To be honest I have never heard of that Tice guy either. McCarthy will be the biggest bust in this draft and I feel confident in saying so. McCarthy = Mac Jones. Washington went as Penix went, he had to carry Washington all season with an above average O.Line and average running game. He had Rome and that was about it. McCarthy had the best O.Line in the country and arguably the best running game as well. He was a game manager and could win as long as he didn't turn it over. Michigan beat Washington because they ran for nearly 300 yards. Tommie Frazier would have won it all with that type of offense and he wasn't even drafted.   Regarding Kirk Cousins, at least you don't have him to pile on anymore. You will see how life without Kirk is, the Vikings will be lucky to win 7 games and I like the Vikings as a team. My father would be so disappointed in the Vikings FO right now and their fans at the way Kirk was treated. He was still alive in 2018 when the Vikings got Kirk and he loved the move. He was the biggest fan I ever knew. He loved them when they got Fran in the 70's and was a fan until he passed away in 2019. His favorite player was Peterson in this era. He said he would take him over any RB that ever played except maybe Barry Sanders.    Kirk Cousins career with the Vikings: 2018-2023 *50-37-1 Record. A playoff win at New Orleans Saints in 2019, beating Brees.   *4 seasons with over 4000 yards   *3 seasons with over 30 TD's   *7.8 Y/A   *68% Completion I know, they should draft Penix.
    • Regarding Worthy -4.21 Speed has to be accounted for by a defense whether the ball is coming his way or not. So does that potentially create more opportunities for other Colt offensive playmakers.  I would say yes. I am sure the Colts have taken note of the impact of Tank Dell 5'10 165ibs (709 yds) on the Texans offense in his rookie year. If it helps take advantage of AR's physical tools and unlocks part of the Colts offensive playbook I am all for it. He is a quick twitch football player and not just a track guy. He is third all time in longhorn history with TD catches in 26 of 39 games, and has caught a pass in all 39 games.
    • I wouldn’t be so quick to include Cross in your comments.   It’s fine for you to say YOU don’t have confidence in Cross, but I think the coaches and front office certainly do.   And I think the coaches and FO also have more confidence than you do in Juju and Jones and Flowers.     Just saying….
