Should the Colts be in new division???

Iam sure not everyone will agree with my thoughts on this, but this has been on my mind for several years. I think the NFL front office need to put some serious thought to changing some teams to different divisions. Here is my vision of how it should be:

AFC EAST - PATRIOTS, BILLS, JETS, RAVENS

AFC NORTH - STEELERS, COLTS, BENGALS, BROWNS

AFC SOUTH - TITANS, JAGUARS, DOLPHINS, TEXANS

NFC EAST - GIANTS, EAGLES, REDSKINS, PANTHERS

NFC SOUTH - FALCONS, SAINTS, BUCCANEERS, COWBOYS.

Colts should've never been put in the AFC South. They should be in the AFC North (I agree)  since they used to be in the AFC East I believe.

Yes, they were in the AFC East....if any team from that division should have gone to the AFC South...it should have been Miami.

Realignment done in 2002 was handled to protect many of the existing rivalries throughout the league.

Nice sentiment but never going to happen as the AFC North has too many of those rivalries.

And Dallas will never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever, ever agree to move out of the NFC East with Philly, Washington, and New York.  On top of that, the league would not want them to move.

In short - ain't happening.

No I completely agree, I thought the whole thing in putting the colts in the AFC south was a joke. considering Miami is further south than the colts. BUT also made sense in keeping Miami in the East because of the rivalry games with their division teams. Same thing with not moving Baltimore to the East. Baltimore vs Pittsburgh is a big rivalry game that you can not take away from the AFC

And moving the Cowboys to the south would be even crazier due to the Redskins vs Cowboys big rivalry. You're taking away two games a year out of that rivalry for one game maybe every 3 years.

But yes Geographically speaking it would make sense to put the colts in the north division, Ravens in the East division and the Dolphins in the south division, along with the Cowboys in the south division and the Panthers in the East division.

Rivalries aren't what they used to be.

It's to much of a 'me' league for these new bread of players to even care.

The only ones who do are the fans.....and only half of them even know the meaning of the word.

Have no idea what this means but pretty sure it makes little sense.

I actually think the Colts just switching with Miami would make the most sense. In the OP, you don't want to displace the Ravens since you would lose the Pitt-Bal rivalry, although geographically that division makes the most sense for the Colts. But the AFC East still works better for the Colts than the South. Plus, the Colts don't really have any big time rivalries in the South, and I am unaware of the Dolphins being some major rival for the Pats, Bill, or Jets. The Colts are actually a rival with the Pats, so if anything a rivalry is gained for more TV by this move. Plus, the Dolphins would be a more natural rival with the Jags since they are both in Florida.

Jerry Jones would blow an oil gasket if you removed his team from playing the likes of a NY, Washington and Philadelphia team twice per year.  You'd have an easier time selling Jerry Jones on being a silent owner than you would on having his team NOT in the NFC East.

To all who replied, I understand your thoughts about the Steelers-Ravens rivals and the Cowboys rivals in the NFC East. But these are different times now, and it can make a new rivalry for todays fan base. I would love to see the Colts & Steelers begin  a new division rivalry, and seeing the Ravens and Patriots gives that division some new fresh rival blood. And watching the Cowboys and Saints battle each year would be good also.

Nicely done but the Chargers  and the Browns should be switched.

Under no circumstance would Dallas vs. Saints division games be greater than Dallas vs. Philly, NYG, or Washington.  No way, no how.

If the NFL wanted to save money through less travel and garner more interest by having more regional matchups, then they should do the following

AFC

North

  • New England Patriots
  • NY Giants
  • NY Jets
  • Buffalo Bills

East

  • Pittsburgh Steelers
  • Philadelphia Eagles
  • Baltimore Ravens
  • Washington Redskins

West

  • Cleveland Browns
  • Cincinnati Bengals
  • Tennessee Titans
  • Carolina Panthers

South

  • Atlanta Falcons
  • Jacksonville Jaquars
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers
  • Miami Dolphins

NFC

East

  • Green Bay Packers
  • Chicago Bears
  • Detriot Lions
  • Indianapolis Colts

West

  • Los Angeles Rams
  • Los Angeles Chargers
  • San Francisco 49ers
  • Oakland Raiders

North

  • Seattle Seahawks
  • Denver Broncos
  • Minnesota Vikings
  • Kansas City Chiefs

South

  • Arizona Cardinals
  • Dallas Cowboys
  • Houston Texans
  • New Orleans Saints

There was talk of the Colts going to the NFC and joining the Bears, Packers , Vikings and or Lions  back in the last realignment. That made so much sense it didn't happen. The Brown's, Bengals thing was also a good idea. But the rivalry with the Bears, Packers  , Vikings could have been something.  The Colts were once rivals of all 3 of those teams before 1970.

  • Buck Showalter changed the title to Should the Colts be in new division???

I am absolutely NOT in favor of blowing up divisions. I hate how the NCAA changes teams and conferences and ruins rivalries all the time. Why do it to our professional teams. With the Colts out of Baltimore it made no sense to stay in the East. Lets just be honest....Jacksonville sucks lol...just move them to St Louis and you have even a more powerful rivalry with Tennessee, Indy, St Louis, and Houston. Very geographically centralized too. Sure it isn't the south persay but it applies well. No need to destroy all the other divisions just to move the Colts. Lets not ruin the NFL rivalries just because of a map.
