Mewhort is a big priority to me.  I need to see more from Moncrief before I feel like he's a must re-sign.  Don't get me wrong I want him back but if the Colts lost them I don't think it would cripple them.

Adam and Davis will depend on how their seasons go but I could see one or both being high on the Colts retain list.

I agree.  I can see AV kickin' it in his 60's.  Mewhort should be .  I can see Moncrief having a 1,000 yard and 7 TDs.

I'd say Moncrief over Mewhort.  I've already explained why I think the Colts should re-sign Moncrief (shameless plug), but I'd want to see if Mewhort can stay healthy all year long and over that knee injury from last year.  If he has and it hasn't affected his play, then I'm all for bringing him back too.

I don't anticipate the Colts bringing Davis back unless he has a stellar year.  He's starting to get up there in age and we have some young DBs

We will see how Mewhort`s knee holds up.
The guy was already too slow to contribute much beyond the space in front of him. Defensive co-ordinators have to like it.
A huge hindrance to running outside, even trying to pull inside. They tried a few wider pulls with him early last season and it was pathetic. So they quit trying.
Well, Chud actually did create a pull that they ran just a few times where he only had to get on the other side of the center. Funny.
I recall he got there in time and did ok.

Sure he is stout and gritty. But replaceable rather than pay $9+ Million for his skill set.
Of course i think we will pay him.  Unfortunate.

Moncrief can definitely be a very valuable weapon. .I hope he can stay healthy for 14+ games.

But not having a 100% Luck will shade his numbers.

most guards are usually better at either pass or run blocking.  only the best in the league excel at both

Mewhort is a must re-sign.

Moncrief I want to see him produce and stay healthy in his contract year.

Davis, I'm not sure about.  Maybe a 2 year deal or something like that, but he's going to be on the wrong side of 30.  We should consider replacement options.

Vinny: We can give him another year if that's what he wants and he continues to kick well.

Gore is done

Butler I don't see much use for him left at this point.

I'd argue that Mewhort is towards the top of the re-sign list if not at the very top. He is a solid lg and has the versatility to play other positions in a pinch. We should do whatever we can to keep the oline intact for a few years.

12 is the only guy you can’t replace. With the slightest bit of improvement from the new roster I trust Ballard to replace any guy he sees fit. I look at age and availability with the top 5 guys we could lose next year. It’s not in their favor to warrant resigning. AV is a legend, but can be replaced.

If Davis stays healthy and contributes with another solid year, I would think he HAS to be a priority.

Depending on price. He shouldn't be paid as a lockdown corner anymore unless he has one of those seasons this year. And even then I'd be a little hesitant since he'll be 30 next year.

How much salary cap will we have for next year's crop of free agents?  Last I looked on spotrac was $47.9 mil but overthecap says $61.1 mil.  Not sure which one is correct.  But both sites say we will have the 3rd highest cap space in 2018.

Everything is based on this year IMO.  That's my easy cop out to answer the question.  I will say that I would be shocked if we do not bring back Mewhort.  If he has a bad year or shows that he is becoming injury prone I could see Ballard letting him walk or trying to get a team friendly contract from it.  Davis to me knows this is his last chance at money so he will go wherever the money is and that is not here.  Moncrief needs to show his worth, and I think he will if healthy.  AV can be resigned as many times as he would like.  The GOAT at his position.  I like that Ballard has produced a new culture with the team though.

I think Mewhort is a must sign at this point, just get it done and keep that line together. I feel moncrief is about to tear it up this year, and if he does, we will have to overpay him to stay here. Luckily we will have something like 50Mil in cap space next year and if I remember right that is like 3rd most in the league. We should take care of our own and then look to get an impact guy. I really hope some of our other guys pan out, but at least Mewhort, Moncrief, and AV should get decent offers. I love Vontae, have for a long time, but he has to get back to his 2014-2015 play for us to offer him a bigger contract, I'm all for it if he does (shorter term obviously).

I would really love to see all three come back.

Davis might be getting older, but who do we have behind him?

Vontae has been playing on a defense with that has generated zero pass rush the past two seasons.

Add some talent around the guy and watch him flourish.

I love all three of these guys..

None of them are really must haves. Mewhort is always banged up. Moncrief is just a standard run-of-the-mill #2 receiver. Easily replaceable. Davis' play has declined even when healthy, and he's getting up there in age. Vinateri is a first ballot HOF and his play is fine, but eventually you have to go younger.

    • https://www.stampedeblue.com/2024/4/1/24118330/i-pity-the-fool-mock-draft     Trade Colts 2nd round (440)   For   Packers pick 58 and 91 (456)   Packers select Zach Frazier C West Virginia 6'2 314lbs Logic: Packers replace Jon Meyers who gave up 5 sacks and had a pff grade of 55.8   Colts trade pick 58 and Kwity Paye   For   Saints Marshon Lattimore CB 27 years old and a conditional 2025 4th (depending on snaps could be 3rd) From Over the cap The team trading for Lattimore would take on his contract as is. They would have the decision to either pick up the option to defer the cap charges or to simply take all of the hit in 2024. Here is the cost on the cap if the team picks up the option in the contract:   Year Salary Cap Charge Dead Money 2024 $15,000,000 $12,000,000 2025 $18,000,000 $0 2026 $18,500,000 $0 2027 (void) $0 $0 Lattimore has no guaranteed money in his contract after 2024 so there is nothing that would lock a team into him beyond this year. Colts Logic: We wanted some experience in the secondary. We wanted a shutdown corner. So we give the Saints a offer they can not refuse. In the first 2 rounds we address most of our defensive woes. Saints Logic: Saints are switching to a 4-3 defense this year and just let Michael Thomas walk. They have always been cap wizards but this may be the year to start a new with the changes listed above. Lattimore has only played 17 games these past two seasons and even though he's a top 12 CB when healthy he has been dinged up. Kwity Paye can start at DE until Chase Young is healthy.
    • Ballard should have never cut him. I want Ogletree on the team as well considering charges were dropped (I believe), but his whole fiasco with his fiance where battery might have been involved was way more of a sensitive topic and understandable of being cut for than Rodgers friend betting 1k on his account on a Colts run stat over/under. That's the worse thing Rodgers was found guilty of, and now we have Colts fans trying to convince themselves we need a RD1 CB pick after 3 were chosen in last year's draft...    He did a podcast detailing what he bet on with Franklin and Speed in case others haven't seen it. Much ado about nothing imho and it's obvious the locker room still like him/didn't think he was negatively trying to affect the outcome of games, and they would know best on that over anyone.
    • Yeah... I don't buy it... BUT... if there is someone you might have to take seriously about something like that... it's Jeremiah. Remember how he absolutely killed that last mock with predicting the exact trade and exact picks for the Texans? Lets see if he has similarly good sources on the Colts...
    • There're a couple of things that seems off about this to me.   1) The Colts moving up in the 1st. 2) Moving up for a CB after Ballard just spent the pre-draft presser complementing the CB group.
    • What he “projects” and what he would play are two completely different things. Idk why people sleep on DeJean, he’s going to surprise a lot of people wherever he ends up going. The kid is a DAWG.
